Question on Installing Ford 9" Rear end.
Oizarod115 replied to lovesjeeps's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
could run different rims front to back :brows: :D -
thanks for the tip, never knew that!

I'm at 4.75" and at full droop my adjustable LCAs hit they're mount. I'm getting away with it, but at 5.5" you'll be kinda limited on droop. You'll be able to drive it around town and wheel it lightly, but the lack of suspension travel'll get to you on the trails. my brother has the 4.5" re coils and the respective CAs and such that came with his RE kit. and we went to install 2" coil spring spacers and his CAs hit on the mount before the spring thought about coming off the spring isolator. like he said... you will be WAY limited on droop.

rubicon express and some others make frame stiffeners that go across between the front at the steering and trackbar and stuff. might try one of those. portals are pretty serious axles... you might wanna just get some steel and go all the way down the frame beefening? i would search naxja.org I'm sure someone over there has mogs on their truck and can give some pointers at least on stiffening the front end.

yeah but its 97+ doors that have the full glass. and just that one change you mentioned.
-
this is my brother "i hate shortarms and even shorter shocks!" we had to get a strap in his hitch and use my truck to pull him back down on all fours. no damage but it was technically a flop. and we have no evidence of my truck ever being stuck. but it's only happened once so we'll try next time!
-
so everyone still agrees on o2 sensor and MAP sensor? or just o2 sensor?
-
regular champion cheapies (which is what our trucks like anyways) and castrol gtx a little over a month and a half ago. should be good on both of those.
-
gotta remember dirty's problem with the brakes too. bigger brakes means you need a better master cylinder too. or soemthing like that. another thing to consider. i seem to remember someone using an E350 master?
-
they're still 19lb/hr injectors, they're just better than the jeep ones so eagle you're stickin with the o2 sensor? aren't those about 100bucks or so?
-
you're back already!?
-
yeah, it was a 15-25 test on a dyno. apparently my truck weighs 3700lbs... she's a pig. but i completely doubled the CO limits on both 15 and 25. so lemme get this straight, replace MAP sensor and if that won't do it replace O2 sensor? or does the O2 only help with NOx... i passed hydrocarbons, but just barely.
-
went to get my emissions done today and the truck passed on hydrocarbons & NOx but i doubled the limit for carbon monoxide on both the 25 and 15 mph test. the 'pamphlet' on what causes failures in the three areas said to check fuel/air ratios and stuff. in the last year (since i passed the first time) i've gotten all new 5.0 injectors, fuel pressure regulator, and maybe adjusted the idle with the screw at the TB once or twice to get it under 1k. but right now it's idling at ~750 what should i do to get it to pass?

he most likely had an AMC 20 rear axle. the front (if it was 4x4) was 3.55. i have heard of differences up to 3% -Nick

need a quick brakeline measurement
Oizarod115 replied to mjeff87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
the lines RE sells in their 5.5" kit (SOA kit) are 22" i think the ones you got should be fine. just make sure they don't hang around and get caught on something. -
new clutch master is cheap/easy... but i don't know if you can replace the seals. my clutch master cyl just decided to quit working one day. so i replaced it... IIRC its about 30 bucks (do NOT go to pepboys, itll be 70 and wrong part) and all it requires is unbolting the old one, replacing, and bleeding.
-
have you tried looking up a nondisconnect inner seal? maybe that axle has a different seal on the housing side of the tube. don't know that it would fit right, but you could get the parts guy to bring you out one of each and compare outerdiameter and stuff.
-
yeah, a mini spool is the same strength as any lunchbox autolocker, but there is no worrying about it lockin up right or wether or not the springs seated and pins are working. also better manners because its predictable.
-
I'm gonna have to go with the oval, rather than the stinkin tie. chevy made more of a streetish truck than a man's truck. and as far as engines go, 351 windsor. hands down best truck engine. plus ford still runs straight axles w/ full leafs in their bigger trucks. and nothin says truck to me like straight axles w/ leafs.
-
a mini spool just replaces the spider gears. a FULL spool requires re-gearing or at least re-setting up the gears. and acts like a full case locker. much stronger. don't know that y ou'd ever break either one though.

The Stereos on our MJ's
Oizarod115 replied to CWLONGSHOT's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i run 6x9s in separate mini boxes behind the seat (400w/200rms audiobahns) off a VERY similar headunit, alpine... don't know the number (looks to be the same just one model older) and two pioneer 5somethings in the front. sound is AMAZING... but i can't get the right rear 6x9 to work, and then the right front speaker stopped working... literally the sound from the two left speakers is PLENTY. on 25/35 (volume) i want to turn it down. and i LOVE loud music. i don't think you'd have any regret runnin them behind the seats, i still throw all sorts of stuff back there. just make sure they've got grills. -
ill check the one near the pedal... I'm pretty sure i hooked the resovior up right last time i took the bumper off, never hurts to check though thanks.

alternatives to bucket seats
Oizarod115 replied to DansGreyMj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
We need to start a photo thread about how many people can fit in a comanche. Bonus points for driving stick! in? or on? i've had 11 persons transported at one time BY the MJ... but that was 8 in the bed, me and 2 others in the cab... my truck really doenst give a poop how much weight it hauls. but i couldn't spin em... i tried  -
they don't die frequently, so probly very little support in rebuild parts. which may mean stealership... then you have like 35377456536 in your local yard, becuase if the jeep died. it probably wasn't the AW4 that caused it. :brows: my brother busted a tranny line in the mud, and overheated his tranny, and all that good stuff and it shifted like absolute PISS for a week, he flushed it, put in a b&m cooler, and it shifts smoother than glass. literally, you cannot feel most of the shifts. (edit: this is all while pushing 35's on a D44 axle.)
-
you could always chop/weld/bolt/reconfigure your manche's bucket brackets to run those seats. my XJ buckets were cut off their origional bracekts, brackets cut off manchebench, and then bolted through existing holes to the buckets' sliders. sits a little funky, but if i got creative/cared i could fix it in a few hours.
