  1. i was like... a 1990 CJ 4 door? what is THIS guy smokin? then i thouhg about it and figured it out :redX: not that much of a problem ;) i've got 4door buckets and i can't complain about being able to get behind them, they may not flip down but i can scoot them up way far enough to get in there, and i can fit my acoustic guitar back there if i lean them up a little tiny bit.
  2. i was going to post up the same thing about the vents, but didn't feel like getting into it... tims TPS is acting up now due to being wet constantly. thinkin bout u-pullin him a hood. burping my system doenst work well but i think ive got it down, (no rear-temp sensor hole) and i top 210 if i sit around at a drive-thru or something, but the elec fan will bring it back down. and yeah i didnt put the 160 in for fun, its what we had lyin around but itll never run 180 much less 160 so I'm not that worried, it just takes a little longer to warm up in the AM back to bumpers, did you decide to build your own detours style winch mount? is that what i read in the CW project thread?

    New guy

 big plans already!!! what size tire you gonna run?
  6. ok, yeah... we never hit the actual trunion, only the caps. guess the only thing i CAN do is try it again... gonna have to fill up the axle though cause ive been pooping gearoil out the passenger tube for a week now haha.
  7. wow! he's a pretty good writer too. love the pics
  8. got em today pete! and his packaging is nice... i got a few circles cut out of a dvd player box :brows: THANKS! think i still have the paypal addy, ill send along some moolah
  9. my cooling problems go a bit deeper than fans... and i have thought about hood vents, we cut some in my bro's XJ. i have a switch runnin my elec. fan i have replaced the fan clutch, and would tac-weld it together rather than buy a new one... i think its a dumb idea anyways, my jeep never runs cool enough for it to matter. replaced waterpump replaced bottle/cap, replaced radiator. its been overhauled fairly well. now i just need to get all new hoses, and a pressure flush. the main difference was the radiator, the other things were steps on the way there. :brows: they would've failed eventually anyways though it is a heep. oh, and 2 thermostats. (i THINK theres a 160 in there right now.. but ill never know til i take it back out, the jeep runs at 200-210 even with the weather in the teens.)
  10. Yes, Just turn it around and press ot out the opposite direction. You don't have to worry about hurting the trunion as its a old/bad one. You would not want to strike, press on NEW one as you could deform it and have problems with the joint later on. CW so you're saying not to hit the new joint?
  11. you remember which side?
  12. i heard recently an XJ shackle will drop it a little bit, should be more than a 1" drop
  13. same exact problem. my fuse is good to same tranny and everything

    I'm New!

welcome! come rejoice in having bought one of america's finest. :brows: its a pretty laid back group here
  15. thats the thing... these were origional 17 yr old spicer joints... they were NOT comin out with the hammer (not a 32oz ballpeen either... I'm talkin mini-hand-sledge) and a 32mm socket for the one side with a 15 for the u-jiont side... no budge. borrowed the press it made removal a breeze... (after we figured the darn thing out... not the easiest tool to use in the kitchen with no vises... yeah, rain sucks) thats what my brother said though CW... the press seemed to be TOO strong. however when we pulled the blown cap off the first time, all bearings were still in the right places. so idk if maybe the joint was made bad? i have no idea, and we did do the tapping the ears to loosen it, my bro already knew that only thing i can think of we didnt do is inspect the ears, or file them.. we have another stub shaft i was going to try it with. these are non-grease zerk u-joints. but we did use a little redsticky grease, not to much though. and i have another question... when yall get the one cap off what do you usually do to get the other cap in the same shaft off? do you tap it out the opposite direction? or do you try to pull it out the side? (does that make sense?)
  16. don't forget the CPS on top of the bellhousing, A WHOOOOLE lot of people have done this... and the truck will NOT start without it
  17. haha, at first glance i thought that was another truck with them ahha. wow. I'm slow
  18. IF you have a tilt wheel and one open window/door for legs to stick out. :brows: on secnod thought... anyone have a camper top they wanna sell?
  19. so, i decided to finally attempt a u-joint change myself (bro and i usually pay to have them changed after we've pulled the shafts out... we rented an autozone balljoint press (basically a HUGE steel c-clamp with an open end for the caps to go through) and go to work... we had no (that is to say a little bit of a PITA but it worked) troubles getting the u-jionts OUT of the shaft... but when it came time ot install them we got one side all the way in, and went to do the other shaft, and as i torqued down the press to get the last fraction of a millimeter i needed to install the c-clip... BLAM! :headpop: it made the same noise the old ones made when they came loose! loosened the press and (keep in mind 3 of 4 c-clips were installed at this time) THE END OF THE CAP BLEW OFF... like a can of pillsbury biscuits... the BRAND new u-joint cap blew right off... has anyone seen/heard of this happening? we even took the joint out and replaced the cap with one of the old spicer ones and pressed that one in and the SAME thing happened. did we do something improperly?
  20. jage- i figured you were talkin about an external slave model, but that didnt happen til 94 for the AX15... and I'm not sure about AX4/5 but i'd assume the same year. its all good :wrench:
  21. just noticed you're in AL, I'm in atlanta/west GA welcome to the area, my bro and i go wheelin out at morris mountain a bit, NICE park... some big friggin rocks back there. http://www.morrismountainorv.com
  22. awesome... I'm real interested to know how the whole cooling thing works out/see the new version, cause i know on 235s my jeep doesnt like to stay cool... I'm gonn ahave more work to do after i lift it, cause it's barely cutting it as it is.
  23. your alternator has to hate you :brows: not to mention the mechanics eyeballs... i always end up going in the mud then i always regret it later when I'm cryin from dirt in the face "ill never do that again!" yeah, whatever... haha
  24. \ if you mean the method with removing the slave then you have alot to lose... dropping the tranny isnt a 5 minute job my friend. or am i :chillin: and you're talkin bout another method?

    TORQUE

one time... (this is a stupid highschool kid thing to do and yes i realize it) i was drivin in the rain and decided i was gonna mess around a little. (realllly wet road not much actual rain) so I'm turnin right onto an empty 3 lane road and spun it (first time ever/only time to-date) 180* and while traveling backwards slammed on the brakes (in second gear with the clutch let out) came to a halt, remembered the clutch, hit it and the engine popped back up to idle... then kept going... and going... and going... and revved to about 3k settling at a steady idle of 1700 for a day. finally realized in the heat of it all the engine had somehow jerked so hard the crankcase vacuum line (the one on the top of the head? isnt that what its called?) yanked loose... been fine ever since.
