  1. :agree: but if you are set on a v6 i like the 3800 motor, or 4.3
  2. that is sweet, was that a factory option? i never knew that.
  3. happy 4th, celebrate our independence and keep your fingers and toes :USAflag:
  4. hello mike.....the first step is admitting there's a problem. you all are nuts, i could stop anytime i want.
  5. make sure you folllow the break in procedure also.
  6. tb spacer is a nice paper weight
  7. naw, and a 4 cyl really doesn't have enough power to push 5.13 gears on the top end. i'm building a stroker jeep 6 and it will have 35" tires, and a crawl ratio way over 200:1 w/ doubler t cases.
  8. set up my rear at work today, 5.13 gears and spool. Image Not Found spent about 3 hrs doing it completely right and nice, and the housing was already disassembled. all the tolerances are at the tightest side of in spec, which i wouldn't do for a driver, but for off road i'll get the least deflection while being in tolerance. the second pic is reusing the old shims, which is just a starting point. most people just throw it together with the old shims, and this is the result, after taking it back out obviously: contact is too shallow, and toward the heel. after setting the backlash i had to start over by adding pinion depth, thus changing backlash, so all in all it takes about 6 or 7 tries before you can assemble with the new bearings and press it all together. Image Not Found finally where i want it. so moral of the story is, 6 hrs to set up an axle is about right. i'd like to do a nice write up, but no time on this axle, but i found the best write up i've seen on the net that was just made a few weeks ago, so i can send that out.
  9. :ack:  :hmm:
  10. What's wrong with that? He DID get conked when the overhead compartments opened up -- it's entirely possible he got a brain contusion. Who was the famous female who hit her head skiing this winter and died a few hours later? Could be the same thing.
  11. yes, it deserves some more attention, but his family also asked to be left alone. his wife i believe was quoted something along the lines of, yes he lived a public life, but we do not want to be in the public right now, please respect that. i can't stand that they're already trying to link this to his plane landing rough.
  12. yes, anything really from the 90's on its not a good idea to pull the cable while running, and don't even think about the vehicles now days.
  13. well when driving with a bad alternator, every battery will test bad untill returned to a charged state and then tested. but, it is very common, for a battery to go bad when an alternator does. sounds like your alternator is bad, and 4 yrs on a battery is good these days.
  14. yep, block heater.....score.
  15. if you give me the application the ls1 is for i can look it up at work. off the top of my head its probably 50 or 60 psi though.
  16. 31 psi running with regulator connected for both 4 and 6 cyl motors
  17. man, i think i work saturday, and then i'm on vacation for the week. i wanna try, i was just there a couple weeks ago, and i'm ready to go back.
  18. i've been a technician for a while now. i looked hard into becoming a distributor. i chose not to for a couple reasons. first off, they looked at me like a dollar sign, not as someone they wanted to help become successful. they wouldn't even talk to me till they ran my credit. i understand they don't wanna waste time on losers, but it was a negative expereince all around. i talked with my trusted tool guys i've known for years, they see their distributors as their customers. you are a dollar sign to them, not an associate. snap on has the only program where they will help you start, you make less profit, but you'll have less risk and money out of pocket, and they will buy back the tools after a certain time if you want out. but, i've talked to some guys where that didn't actually pan out as good as it sounded. i spoke with cornwell, snap on, mac and matco, so i got the same feelings from them all. it does take a lot of money up front, you own everything right away. you need at least 50 grand to start, and thats not much, and thats not paying for everything, thats just a down payment as you will be financing much much more. i have a local matco guy that is the best around, is the trusted guy in this area, and he is retiring soon. he is going to be selling his route and inventory all together, now that would be the ticket. an established number one guy, taking you around saying here's the guy taking over my show. sorry to ramble on, if you wanna talk more about it let me know, i could go on for a while, as i spent months on this myself. edit: an in depth knowledge of tools is needed. and there's millions of tools. i've dealt with too many tool guys that know what a ratchet and wrenches are, but are clueless on the millions of special tools and stuff a technician needs. without this knowledge you will be past over by technicians.
  19. my aw4, and most that i have talked to are 3.07
  20. probably has 3.07 gears to, terrible gearing.
  21. nice find, the sad thing is i don't think there's a bottom to our addiction, so you can never say at least i've hit bottom. it just gets worse.
  22. Awesome looking mj Reminds me of mine............What tranny do you have???? Mine has the pukegoat :ack: :ack: havent had any major problems with it yet though (fingers crossed) thanks for the compliment, i have the unbreakable aw4, i love that trans.
  23. if you haven't checked already, make sure the ears on the yoke aren't worn off. i had a problem a long time ago like this, and didn't know to look at the yoke. if the little tabs worn off it won't stay in. happens all the time actually just my first thought, i'm sure you covered it already though.
