What differential lube to use?
jpdocdave replied to Luvtohunt's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i don't really care for synthetics cuz i believe in keeping up on the maintenance, and you won't need it. but, i guess its actually been discovered that synthetic gear lubes are less desirable in differentials, they don't disipate heat as well. gear manufacturers, and locker manufacturers won't warranty parts if synthetic lube is used. doesn't matter to me cuz i don't use synthetic lubes, especially since they need to be changed so frequently if you wheel.. but i figured i'd pass that on for whoever cares. -

plane ole 80w90 if there's any sort of limited slip there's a friction modifier made for it, but i'm not 100% on which ones get the modifier, someone else can give you that more specifically. -
at the shop here, we won't put anything but delco pumps in gm. we've had tons and tons of problems with any other pumps. and a fuel pump assembly at that price scares the crap out of me :hmm:

take an out of state check? :dunce:

i'm definately not moving to ala

you gotta know fuel pressure, or else everything else is just a guess. it isn't hard to check and a test gauge can be bought cheap at your local discount auto parts store. just plug it into the schrader valve on the rail, then crank the engine. gotta know pressure, spark, and injector pulse to get a real diagnosis. sounds like a fuel problem, but try giving it some throttle when its starting, sometimes i've had dirty throttle bodies do exactly what yours does, but by working the throttle you can start them and keep them running shortly. cleaning the throttle body is super simple, and should be done anyway. -
who knows, lots of things get discussed here. did not specify, and i see an xj in the sig, and i had the same issue w/ my xj. a few of us here have xj's also, didn't know if you saw that? :dunno: :rotf:
-
is it the xj? when i put blocks in the rear of my xj, the tire rubbed the rear sway bar link, they fail to mention that every time also. i removed the rear on my xj.

get the right wheels. i know way too many people that have had problems, and adapters coming loose. more people i've talked to have had them come loose then not, and if you're talking about just a spacer, not even an adapter that bolts onto the existing studs, then is a spacer with its own studs, stay away from me. off road use only i've heard no probs, on the street, bad idea.

don't remember on jeeps, but many vehicles have snap rings holding the ball joints in place, nothing like that still there holding it?

holy leaf springs  they point straight up, must ride like a dream.

the schraeder valve is on the rail like pat said, the regulator is different from the schraeder valve. i didn't read that he said fuel was in the vacuum line. check fuel pressure to know for sure what that is. i've also had dirty throttle bodies act like that, but you can get them running by feathering the gas, and keeping it running. -
Dude you don't know what your talking about! Flux core is super easy to weld with. just because you can't weld with flux don't discourage people.........I have had the best luck with flux core....Very pretty welds of of a miller 220v flux core, but You can def tell the quality of the welder by the welds. Don't Be cheap A welder is an investment that can make you $$$$$$ :brows: :brows: If you know how to use it proporly. You can penetrate just as deep with solid core wire if you adjust your welder right..........Infact I think flux core is far more forgiving than solid core plus gas is a pain in the @$$ when you run out in the middle of a project....... ummm...skip the "dude you don't know what you're talking about" crap. i'm simply saying what i was taught in welding school. flux core is considered one of the "ugliest" welds, but is also considered one of the strongest. does that mean you can't make decent looking welds with it, absolutely not. so you don't know what you're talking about trying to tell me i don't.
-
the reason he's stating for the flux core outside is w/ gas metal arc welding, the gas is blown away w/ the breeze, and doesn't shield the metal, making a poor weld. flux core makes nasty welds, but definately penetrates.

thats the route i'd take. let us know how it goes

good, i didn't look that close, but the title says 87, and i agree, a carbed fuel pump can't be the same as multi port injection. so maybe it will work for him
-
here's one on ebay. not sure how it can be the same for 87-93 wrangler and comanche though, but it says it fits a ton of jeeps... 50 bux shipped http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Electric-Fuel-P ... 7C294%3A50
