empty your gas tank !!
jpdocdave replied to johnnybebad's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
older gm's actually had a jumper wire sitting on the firewall that ran the pump when jumped to power. came in handy, especially when i had a customer jam a diesel pump in her buick and filled it with diesel, luckily the gas station attendant brought it to her attention before she tried to start it. -

it was quite simple for me to deal with it, i stopped wheeling illegally :D i have a picture similar to what pete posted in my first wrangler, about 10 yrs ago, behind some power lines. first a buddy and i went by ourselves in my jeep. we called 3 different trucks, even a 3/4 ton diesel and couldn't get pulled out. come along, no help. spent hours digging, jacking, and putting boards under it with no help. had to leave the jeep there and call an off road tow truck, and $350 later i was cured. besides, we all agree wheeling anywhere besides designated areas is frowned upon and harms our efforts to keep ohv areas around.

thanks for the good words pat. i've been doing gears for a while, and i've spent a ton of money on tools souly used for gear installs, and i'm still learning better proper technique, and even better tools. setting up the gears out of the vehicle is ok if you have a way of securing it, just on jack stands does suck. there's also different style pullers that can remove the bearings without damage whatsoever, and i will be buying the dana specific puller soon. my advise on that is find someone that really knows what they're doing, not just thinks they know, and get their help. i agree with pete, they should've stayed in the axle, and there's a big chance they could make noise if you install them. if the rear is even useable.

i've seen some really whack drain plugs. places like jiffy lube will use them when they ruin a drain pan. some can be removed, but 99% of the time the oil pan is beyond repair, and some will never come out. i did see one someone installed that is removeable, and had a valve built in so you could just turn it to drain the oil. it leaked and the oil poored all stupid as well on it also.

what happend to a daily driver tj? i personally can't stand a 4 banger on the street. i'd rather have one on the trail than daily driver. the mpg that is barely better than a 4.0 is not worth the sacrifice.

HELP terrible idle, motor issue, not driveable
jpdocdave replied to nameless's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
if you were running it with out the oxygen sensor thats a problem. not sure exactly where you were leaving the exhaust off, but sounds like just the manifold, and that would mean no oxygen sensor. a renix will not run without the oxygen sensor, later engines the computer will substitute and at least stay running. -

xj is an excellent choice, i've had one as a daily driver for a long time, i'm on my third. 96 is not a changeover year, it was the last year of the older style, my current xj is a 96 and i will be driving it for another 130k. honestly 96 would be my preference, its obd2, but 97 on in the new styles got more computerized, and stricter emissions. i would do 91-96 personally, but i hate the direction the automotive industry has taken since around 99 or so. that being said, the 97 up are very nice.

holy crap, at least wade has some sense :shake: , i hate excessively loud exhaust on 99 percent of vehicles. on a harley or the right muscle car fine, otherwise just run a mild performance muffler, thats my opinion. but i was younger once and used that crap to :dunno: -

Then I guess we should be proud, carrying on the fine tradition of 'Rambler Mentality" to the next generation. Rambler Mentality goes something like this: You have a nearly mint, original 59 Rambler. A single piece of trim that hasn't been made in 50 years, and only fits your particular year & model Rambler is missing, or mangled on your otherwise fine example of an automobile. After owning the car for 30 years, you go to a show, find the exact right trim that you need, then don't buy it because the guy wants $14 for it. :rotfl2: and then to make it jeep you jam a peice from some other vehicle that doesn't fit in its place making it look like a$$ :rotfl2:
