i'm confused as to why everyone is trying to turn and remove the torx bolt. you take the nut off, and slide the link off the torx bolt, and slide the new one on :dunno:

Also know as grinding the valves, or renewing the mating surfaces between the valves and the valve seats... seats will also have to be ground. The "grind" is done at specific angles to allow proper seating and sealing... if youre doing this you should also have the head and block checked for warpage, and if any warpage exists, you will need to have either the head and or block surfaced or machined to remove the warpage and create a completely flat surface for the head and block to seal to each other with a new head gasket. Good Luck! Oh! Why do you beleive that you need new lifters? Are they ticking? Good luck! just nit picking, but lapping is different than grinding. lapping is done by hand, and with a lapping compound. lapping will not seal a worn out valve or valve seat. grinding the valves and seat will be a new surface (valve job). lapping will renew slightly worn surfaces, and if you know how to interpret the results you will see what shape your valves and seats are in.

this is true, the cv shaft is not really weak, but higher maintenance like stated above. rubber boots get old and crack open, grease goes everywhere. if the grease is gone too long the joint is damaged, and it is far more common to replace the whole axle shaft as an assembly than to replace the boot even, and repairing the joint itself is basically never done anymore. so take all that and compare it to replacing a spicer u joint that lasts 100k. you're basically comparing replacing an entire axle shaft, to servicing a u joint.

SO CLOSE, yet SO FAR AWAY!!
jpdocdave replied to BORDENCOMANCHE's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
the bolts that snapped aren't gonna be in there that tight. you should be able to grab whats left with a vice grips and just unthread them. they should not be seized in or need drilling. -
craigslist is great for tires, i've seen a lot of good deals, and i made money selling 5 32" a/t's, and bought 5 33" m/t's

congrats, and i have one word of advise, warranty. get an extended warranty. the way they're building cars these days is nuts, i'll never buy a new vehicle. all those bells and whistles will break, and cost money, and there are so many computers and modules on cars these days its nuts. trust me, i'm a mechanic, buy a good extended warranty.

installing used gears
jpdocdave replied to trail grenade's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
you would've been better to pull the whole axle imo. i've had mixed expereince w/ used gears, some went well, i recently fought a set for quite a few hours to get them as best as they could be. if i have an option of swapping a whole axle in that has the factory gears unmolested, or remove those gears and re set them up in a different housing, i will always choose swap the axle. -
ooh ooh, i saw this already, the best part is the poor sucker that buys it will never have 4wd. you can't match the gears that are in that 14 bolt in a d30, didn't it say 5.13 gears? if someone does buy it, they got a lot of work ahead to make it 4wd, somehow they have to swap an axle into that contraption. 2wd wonder.

i had my dealer do a locator on rear shocks for my big ton, i just bought the last pair of o.e. inventory rear shocks in the country. i thought that was cool, 26 bux ea + shipping. btw, front heavy duty shocks are about 25 at the stealer also, in stock, same as xj i assume.

didn't that pathfinder get like 36 or 38" tires? i didn't think it was that mild.

thats her name, courtney hanson, man she's got no personality. i don't like her, her interviews and stuff are so laborious, and forced feeling. she doesn't have the knack for that, even when she was on overhaulin i think it was, not her best quality.

ok, no problem. i have never heard of that area though. my zip is 60099

i'm lost on what you're trying to figure out? where the bikes are, or someting else?
