i would also be willing to bet there are some a hole stories where a good ole boy stops and helps some poor idiot out, and somehow the stuck vehicle gets damaged some how, and the good ole boy is getting sued or billed for damage. He may be an idiot for letting the good ole boy near his vehicle in the first place... If you damage someone's vehicle, you should expect to have to pay for it, if not offer to do so right then and there. If you KNOW you are going to damage someone's vehicle, and it's not a safety or life and death situation, then there's very little reason to commit to the recovery. Let someone else whom has recovery experience pull a vehicle out and leave it undamaged. Even in a life or death situation, it may be prudent to leave the car as undamaged as possible so that it may further protect the individual trapped inside in case something shifts or falls. Depending on the difficulty and the vehicle and type of issues, a recovery will only run $40-$80 to get you out of a deep culvert, to maybe $400 for something that takes hours. If you rip the bumper off of a new vehicle, or damage a painted panel, or force them to visit a mechanic to fix suspension damage you incurred, that could have you see a bill 10X what a recovery tech would charge. Let the recovery person or the casualty pay for it, not you. Also make sure to point out any and all damage to the vehicle before you start your recovery, no matter how simple it seems. I often get a laugh, but I am dead serious when I tell people things like "You may get a few scratches on this panel here..." or "This might rip off your rear mud flap because it's stuck under the tree...", but folks appreciate it when you do not damage their vehicles, and they tend to sue you a lot less often when they tell you to go ahead even if it will add scratches, and your insurance will love you more and charge you less. The state police in Ireland often laughed at me when I carefully recovered drug lord cars out of bogs, hedges, rivers, what not, undamaged(many of the locals would have ripped it right out). It's a matter of principle and professionalism. I have pulled all manner of vehicles out of mud, trees, ditches, canals, rivers, lakes, mountains/cliffs, houses/buildings, drains, construction sites, sink holes, power poles and telephone poles, etc, all undamaged. Unless I can obviously tell the vehicle is already a write off, or someone's life is in danger, I won't do the recovery if I can not do it without damaging the vehicle any further. You should follow the same principles. Damaging someone's vehicle is rarely doing them, or you, any favors. But, then again, to me there is nothing worse than someone else having to clean up after my mess. i'm not talking about unnecessary damage to the vehicle, what about damage they've already done, but blame you for.

ok, at least you admit you don't wanna regear anything. i think thats good. pull the cover off the axle, and the large gear you see sticking out toward you is the ring gear. there's some numbers on it, two pair of numbers will give you the number of teeth on the ring gear and number on the pinion gear, thats your gear ratio. divide them and you'll get 3.07 or 3.56, or 3.73 or 4.10, thats the ratio you'll need your new axle to be. -

great time to get your hands on an upgrade, like a dana 44. you need to verify what gears are in yours now, there's not always rhyme or reason to what jeep did in our trucks. the numbers are stamped on the ring gear when you remove the cover, best bet is to buy an axle with the same gearing already, instead of regearing an axle. secondly, after son breaks axle, dad fixes axle.......... dad breaks son :fool: -

i hear people say that to, simply not true in my personal usage. i get way better gas mileage in economy mode. rpm's kill gas mileage, bottom line. -

changes the shift points to a higher rpm when in power mode, thats all. -

80mph and you're talking about fuel economy?? what kinda rpm's is that? you'll probably get 30 mpg at 65 mph. i'll spend an extra couple hours driving to save a hundred bux on a long trip.

cool. either you have been driving for a very long time with worn parts and signs of problems, such as squeaking or other things. or your belt got all hung up when it came off and wrapped around the balancer and damaged it. either way the point is, it is never ever good to keep driving in these scenario's, at least get out and assess the situation. pull the broken belt parts out and drive home watching the gauge and stopping when it gets hot. and i can basically guarantee you cost yourself more money now because they're is more wrong now than if you stopped. i can't believe how many times i see this in the shop, people just figure its more important to keep driving and get home before dealing with the problem.

ya, fantastic tires. i got them in a deal with some wheels from a buddy, best street tire i've ever had. i couldn't make them slip in the winter. great deal. -
If the shocks or brake lines are the limiting factor, that's bad. :( of coarse thats bad, i didn't look real closely at the pic, are people saying his are limiting? i guess i just see way to many people flexing over stuff all the time and taking pics, too much emphasis on it.

i wired in a pair to, is the factory wiring on both sides meaning its pre wired on the right side also? :doh: i bought a pair of horns, all packaged to be really cool, but they were nothing special, just a hi and low note. now one sounds sick, i think next is cadillac horns, i can't justify buying the train horns, but they are fun. i have a customer that has them, i hear him all over town.

why is everyone talking about its fair and find whats limiting it? :nuts: its great, you're fine, i think its pretty impressive you were able to do that on soft ground and with street tires, there's nothing limiting your travel in those pics.

howdy, so you're saying you want to make your renix 4.0 an ho 4.0, engine management and all correct? you got some work ahead of you, but there's plenty here that have done it.

i also agree about buying american tires. there are lots of great options. i'm a big fan of the bfg a/t's or mt/t's. i also got a set of bfg long trail tires in a deal, almost new, i ran them in the winter instead of my mud tires and they are the best tire on the pavement i've had. and i've been through a lot of tires, and i sell them. another good mud tire i like is the cooper stt, i got this set in a deal and they have been good tires as well. general are also good tires. the only reason i'm not a fan of goodyear is the price, they aren't worth the extra money to me. beware of walmart/sam's club tires. pay close attention, the tire is slightly different, and not the same quality as what you get from a real tire dealer in most cases. walmart goes to the manufacturers and says we're gonna buy a ton of tires, but we'll only pay this much. tire maker says, ok, but we can't sell our name brand tire at that cost, but we'll make a similar tire to meat your request. and they do this as to not pass up on selling thousands of tires at a time.

i agree with rob in my experience, they sell it as a kit, where as the stealer and local suppliers by me sell the seal, bearing, and collar all separate and more expensive
