if you buy a whole assembly you're on easy street. if you're talking about the strut, spring, and mount assembly all pre assembled on purchase. the possibility of getting hurt is when you have to replace just the strut, and loosen the nut on top to separate the mount from the strut, thus letting the pressure off the spring. this requires a spring compressor. the whole assembly is simply 3 nuts under the hood, and two bolts on the strut, and maybe a stabilizer link on each side, and maybe a brake line bracket. very easy for a do it yourselfer.

i wish there was a solid answer, my first renix did this, now my mj does it once or twice month. mine seems to do it more in the cold. i wish someone could say "ya, mine did that, and i did this, and it went away" i haven't heard it yet. i'm going to replace my iac next, its mechanical and opens when starting then is supposed to close, i'm hoping the iac is sticking in the cold it makes no sense that turning it off and restarting will make it stop. no gasket should act like that, you'd think. iac makes the most sense, since it moves every time its started, therefore, stopping and starting makes sense. but guys say they replaced iac to no avail.

is defrost circuit still present in our trucks?
jpdocdave replied to lostissues's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i found the fog light wiring in the cab already there just waiting when i did mine, but i don't remember anything else. worst came to worse, use the fog light wiring for the mirrors if you want, plug in the switch, add the relay that goes on the fender from the factory anyway, and the wiring goes to the headlight harness, you'd just have to re wire from headlight harness, just a random thought. -
and what about the willys jeep truck, i'm no expert here, but the pick up was made by willys, and said jeep on the tailgate.

2wd jeeps yes, 2wd wrangler no. when this has come up before someone tried to convince me of a 2wd yj being built for govt somethin or other, to my limited knowledge, there has been no 2wd wrangler untill the jk. its not a market to avoid, and i never said all jeeps should be rubicons, for repetition sake i won't repeat my previous statements about what they've done. 2WD YJ's do exist. Seen one with my own eyeballs. Rob L. so was it govt. or what, i've actually read where no 2wd yj left the factory from regular production. these must have been made for some sort of special deal. tell me tell me tell me  Not from 87-90 they didn't exist, far as I can tell (no such beast as a SUA leaf front beam in the YJ section of my catalog.) 91-93 and 94-95 likewise. 97 TJ catalog shows the same, I'm too lazy to dig up any other TJ catalogs. Maybe they were special order like you said but I would think the parts to fix them would be in the parts catalogs. Agreed. There is a reason (I forget who I'm quoting here, one of the CO chapter guys on NAXJA) the 84-86 vehicles were called "a mismatched sack of wet turds." ok, so you're saying you see no evidence of a 2 wd production wrangler correct? this is what i've also found in my searches untill the jk. but i wanna make sure i'm understanding what you're saying fully. -
Really?? A new alt here is a $100! :smart: Sorry Dave I couldn't resist :rotfl2: sure, but if you wanna buy used alternators for $100 give me a call :waving: , if it ain't in the box unused, its not new to me, unless i watched it get installed, and never, or barely used. :brows:

i would assume the trans is shot, most people wait till it stops moving, and then change the fluid, and obviously its too late by then. so you see a lot of bad transmissions with new fluid. sounds like there's not much there, a good running 4.0 thats worth 2 to 3 hundred pulled, and the tank/sender. bench seats not worth anything, alternator isn't worth anything, leaf springs are worth a few bucks. sounds like you may make 200 bux if you're lucky, and thats if you can tow it, if you have to pay for tow its barely more than a wash. by the time you're done with it a tow truck will come and take it for free for the title. thats about it on the low end of looking at things.

if it wasn't welded that would be nice. thats about what they go for though depending on location. the disc brake conversion is a big plus, so all in all its not a bad deal, especially if they'd take 250

i thought it died sooner than that, like i said, i don't bother with newer dates. i know they went to the 2.4 instead of 2.5 around then to, my aunt has a 2.4 wrangler, i think hers is 05 or so. -

i'm fuzzy on the dates for newer stuff, i just don't pay attention to anything not in the 90's, but i'm gonna say the answer to the 2004 thing is the 4.0 maybe, i forget when exactly the minivan motor replaced it. -
Still for Sale???
jpdocdave replied to 87ComancheLB's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
i still have a problem here: how can a dmv "decide" to title something as a vehicle that was never produced? and i wonder if the dmv spelled comanche wrong to? and no kidding, this thing has been for sale for a long time. -

a house divided against itself..... when you do things like this, bastardize your brand, to make sales, you are inevitably digging your own grave. 2wd wrangler :fs1: totally bastardized the wrangler right there, might as well be a sebring, its just a convertible. anything to sell another wrangler i guess. and making these little poo box cross over junk CARS, under the jeep name, totally cannibalized the jeep brand. jeep used to be/mean/stand for something. i would have to agree with pat, 2004 was the last year anything decent came out of the factory, and thats if you like tj's. its a shame because they were on the right track with the tj rubicon, thats a jeep, and i'm not really a big tj guy, i'm a huge cj/wrangler guy, those mean a lot to me, and the direction they took wrangler is sickening, and the mentioned some more changes, i guarantee they won't be good for people like me. -

how about leave jeep to what it should be, i mean what did they expect with: compass, patriot, liberty, grand cherokee, and commander, all different but way too similar. how about wrangler, xj, and mj, those were the days. wagoneers and grand cherokees were also great additions, but you didn't see them cannibalizing each other ram and durango are good lines, i don't know what they were thinking with the new dakotas, but they work for most. 300 sells well challenger is cool grand caravan is a success i like the new express utility whatever its called, thats a good idea, but look at the sprinter, those sales fell off pretty quick. leave jeep to a few purpose built lines, and thats it. no 2wd wrangler, either. stop trying to make jeep cover all markets, its foolish. -
