Craftsman socket set (extra set), these are the only things I don't scrimp on. Cheap sockets, don't have any use for them (except for use as loaners or give away), enough extensions to change a CPS, cheapo wrenches, screwdrivers, black tape, vice grips, wire cutters, jumper cables, 4- way tire tool, folding Torks set, OBD scan tool, cheapo digital multi-meter, folding E-tool. The small stuff fits in two HF canvas bags, one bag holds really small and important things like the multi-meter,and T-60 Torks socket, etc. Small bag fits into larger bag, makes for a handy little tool kit that is easily transferred from vehicle to vehicle. The good tools stay at home, cause it sucks having good tools lost or stolen.

ax15 H.O. clutch/clutch plate to renix flywheel?
64 Cheyenne replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
As long as you keep Renix flywheel on Renix engine, you can use either clutch. Renix and HO flywheels are different, they send different signals for the different engine computers. -
my 1988 jeep comanche "ole rusty"
64 Cheyenne replied to freakjeep93's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Isn't there enough parts there on that MJ to finish the one in your avatar? You don't have vehicle inspections in Canada? -
Not this one? viewtopic.php?f=7&t=17156

Tis the season....... If I was to let the person who was at fault "off", I would at least ask the person to buy a few toys etc. that can be donated to a charity, or do something in the spirit of the season for a needy person or organization.

BUELL is an offshoot of HD, so it is saddening when another American company or division of a larger company decides to throw in the towel. :( FWIW, a multi-cylinder sport bike has nowhere the cool appeal compared to the sound of a bad a** V- twin sport bike!

Vaccum and air conditioning issues
64 Cheyenne replied to Akula69's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Maybe use a mityvac, see if the heater doors are working properly. -
Take the CAD out of the equation, lock it over, I did it to mine. Open Diff. = the wheel with the least amount of traction spins.

Vaccum and air conditioning issues
64 Cheyenne replied to Akula69's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Did you make sure you put vacuum to the correct port on the "blimp", it only goes one way, one side has a one way orifice on it. -
I'm not sure if I still have it, if I do, pay shipping and its yours. Edit: Sorry It's gone :dunno:

Swapped rear bumpers, put new rear shocks on (got from a CC member), filled tranny, TC, D35 with new fluids, greased all fittings. My friend said "why don't you paint the bumper before you put it on the truck?", He's all about paint and looks, I believe he thinks paint and chrome makes his truck worth A Lot More. This truck might get paint, maybe in five years, or tomorrow, but I doubt it. :rotfl2:

My red truck (Mary Jane) is getting a new rear bumper from JC Offroad, The old bumper, a FEY, is going on my gray truck (Megan Joy), the old bumper (stock)that was on Megan Joy went to the dumpster, I did save the frame mounts and all the small parts that I could get off of it. I kept the frame mounts because they look like they would make a good starting point for a custom bumper if I should ever choose to build one. What's my point? Even a stock rear bumper that is TOAST, has potential for some usefulness.

After putting the driveshafts back in, I found a massive amount of play in the front axle U-Joints,caused by these. Good thing I found them, hate to think what could have happened if I found them "The other way", they look like they were run dry for quite some time. I have one of those C-Clamp things that you can change U-Joints with, I used it once but found it kind of awkward to use and haven't used it since. I plan on doing some ring and pinion work in the spring, so last year I bought this , busted U-Joints fear It! The press was definitely one of my better investments. Wish I would have bought the material stand that folds into a V shape, It would have made holding drive shafts much easier. While I was at it, I also greased the front end, inspected the front unit bearings, brakes, changed the diff. oil and locked the CAD over. All that is left on the front end is to check the toe.

Help! Drive shaft length.
64 Cheyenne replied to BORDENCOMANCHE's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So when measuring for the new shaft, how much allowance should be given to slide into the output shaft? -
Aw man... I threw my old one away last weekend, thought nobody's gonna need it and I never will.

VIN plate and ownership ,
64 Cheyenne replied to biggwheels's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I know a guy, who knew a guy, who knew this other guy.........who had to change his dash. To get his VIN off his old dash, he popped a hole through the plastic at each end of the VIN tag with a screwdriver so that the rivets came out intact with the VIN tag, then on the new dash he drilled out the old VIN, put the new tag into old holes, held the tag in place with a few spots of clear RTV. For the Data tag under the hood, he just drilled out the old rivets reinstalled the new tag with regular steel rivets and called it good. Only time I had any LAW look at my VIN was when they were comparing my proof of insurance against the VIN all they looked at was on the dash, they had no need to look at body tags. -
XJ dash harness to rear MJ harness wiring guides.
64 Cheyenne replied to mfpdm's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
Great write up! Just a couple question though: 1. the XJ plugs will not connect with the mj harness at all? 2. can't a person remove the plug (unpin the wires) from the back of the old MJ dash harness, repin them into the new XJ dash harness plug? -
I wouldn't call the place I got my parts from a JY, but rather a "Rezyard" every time I go there I worry about DEA, FBI etc swooping down on the place and taking me along for a 3 day vacation.....or maybe getting shot or worse, it can and has happened. I can't say I'm the kind of person who would be intimidated by a place like that. I'm one of those guys who, when I walk in front of your car at the mall I hear the power locks engaging......Makes me laugh at how secure that makes people feel. Too bad people judge me more often by my looks than by the peaceful caring person that I am. Whoops :typing:

Brought all this stuff home today for spares, not shown are the doors they have perfect interior panels and good west coast style mirrors. I still have to get the doors, wiper assembly, exhaust pipe off the truck. All for .........$40 Bucks! Sorry I don't know why the pics are small, I'll figure that one out later.

MJ rear window removal ?
64 Cheyenne replied to johnnybebad's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My first reply was before I did the DIY on my back window. I would have used the windshield knife in the removal of my back window but I got in a hurry, It was cold out, didn't want to wait for the sun, had a heat gun but got lazy and didn't use it, broke the blade of the knife. Either way works for me, it's just that if I was to use the knife I have to be careful not to pry with the blade, wait till the old gasket material is really warm before I was to use the knife, take my time. The cable works well because old bicycles are everywhere, BEWARE...the cable can get really hot from the sawing action, guess how I know? Anyway, here is the link for the backwindow viewtopic.php?f=9&t=19487&start=0 -
Naw, I'm not going to live in it,(not yet anyways :rotf: ) it's just for tools and workshop. The XJ was toast when I got it, never had any intention of resurrecting it, it's giving up tilt column, air, cruise, front axle, for my red 87. The BA-10 and 231 went into my 88, when I got the 88, it's tranny was bad and I just happened to have one in this 89 XJ. Last of all the XJ gives me a excellent running spare motor for either truck.
