I have an 89 XJ donor/parts vehicle. It runs and moves under it's own power, but I'm at the point of no return on it. I need the tranny out of it so after that's pulled the engine will no longer run. What do I need to do to preserve this motor for future use. I do plan on starting it one more time to change the oil. Does it matter if I keep coolant or oil in it? The coolant is 50/50. Should I run the gas tank dry? Spray wd-40 or something else in the cylinders? My plan is to leave the engine in the vehicle,at least till the city starts complaining again,or I finish stripping whatever I can off of it,Then I'll buy an engine stand or build an engine dolly for it.

I usually don't think very highly of any "Trans homo" kind of movie, but I really have to give Patrick Swayze credit for playing such an out of character movie as "to Wong Foo....".That movie made me laugh so much, tears to my eyes, etc. etc. He will be missed, definitely was a movie great. My Condolences.

Haven't posted in a while, but I have been working on this truck some. I found the cause of the floor damage/rust. This is a pic of the A-pillar above the DS mirror, with the door closed. and I thought my welding skills were a little lacking. :shake: Lower Hinge and Door Check Just a little out of alignment The hinges on the MJ were pretty well gone so I sourced a replacement set from my donor XJ. I took the replacement hinges off with my hinge removal tool. :brows: Did the "no weld" fix on the upper. But I did weld the hinge to the plate for extra strength. On the bottom,I cut a piece of 1/8" plate, welded it to the outside of the pillar where the original hinge was welded. The way I see it,the plate spaced the hinge out 1/8" over stock, easily adjusted out with the door hinge. Door and body done. When I put the door back on,I used regular metric hex head bolts in place of the Torx fasteners.Makes door adjustment super easy.I also replaced the two on the inner fender next to the A-pillar with the same. Might get paint next year. I also repaired the headliner, floor, totally replaced the dash (with a better one),Replaced the windshield, replaced the bench with buckets. Fixed all the dash, interior, exterior lights. Added under dash lights, even got the B-pillar lights to work properly. Next order of business will be to finish the interior, then change out the BA-10 with another out of the XJ. Why another BA-10? Because this truck only cost a hundred bucks, the other truck,Mary Jane, got the AX-15 and all the goodies. So far I got about $300 in this truck plus my time. The other truck,$4k+ and it's still no where nears done.Oh Well.........

Gosh.....I sure feel envious of somebody who has a garage, let alone someone who has nice shelving/storage space for "stuff". I keep telling the GF,that if I ever get a garage it's gonna be "mans domain".Aint gonna be nary any "woman" stuff in sight! No Xmas,Easter,Halloween boxes,Nuthin! If it can't theoretically hurt you,or scare the cr@p outa the neighbors, then it don't belong :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: Looks good, can't wait to see the workbench!

Today I remember those who lost their lives. My thanks and gratitude goes out to all of those who are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice so that others may live, live in peace. To our armed forces and first responders "Thank You"

952 reasons to buy it. IMHO I'd try and buy it because of how rare 92s are,but I'd keep and drive the 87 more cause it wouldn't hurt as bad as if something happened to the 92.

My Jeep is my passion without it I would truly be a dull miserable SOB. I don't have the vices of my younger years,so I believe that my MJs are the few fanatical things that I allow myself to indulge in. Hope you get over the test in your Comanche faith. Remember how fortunate we are when we can tell others "It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand"! Look at how many times you see a WTB- MJ in the classifieds, they don't make MJs any more. Consider yourself one of the fortunate ones who has an MJ,not wishing they still did or wanting one.

D30 low pinion = increased F/driveshaft angle with lift. Thats why I scratched the low pinion axle idea.I am going to use the 1 piece axles with my CAD style axle though. Larger 297x Ujoints.High pinion.

Rob L. Quote:I am taking out roasted D30/D35 3.55's, and putting in D30/D44 limited slip with 3.73's. Why? Rob L. Just asking cause I got a D30 for free out of a 94 ZJ ,No CAD,has 297x u joints. This is where I learned about the differences in a "high" or "low" pinion D30.(Mine was "low"=bad).

What axle/axles are you getting out of the ZJ,and what are you putting them in?

The lights ground threw one of the three wires on the light plug, which in turn goes to the door switches where the light is grounded, when the door opens, lights up. I cleaned the contacts on my lights, replaced the drivers side door switch, lights work fine.Cool. Whoops my bad, didn't see page two...........again.

8.8 conversion question
64 Cheyenne replied to driverdave's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Same Money? You mean the cost of slappin a D35 back in? Sometimes/most D35= free + time. Got one in my backyard I'd give for free. 8.8? Depends on how you source your parts and how much you gonna do yourself. If I was to do an 8.8 on my own again, doing everything on a budget,I could do it for about $500 + my time,on the outside estimate. Right now,I'm into mine for about $700. IMHO, I wouldn't put any money into a D35 unless it was a last resort. If your not going to lift your truck, put larger tires,or should I say not too much tire,as restricted by stock or near stock height, put a D35 back in. Money permitting,do the 8.8 spring under. The only reason you'd have to redo it is when you decide that you want bigger tire, just because you can, then it'll be :I shoulda went spring over! You could also search for a D44 out of an MJ (good Luck! But not impossible) or possibly a Chry. 8.25 but I don't know if this is a bolt in to a MJ. SUPER 35,is still a D35 no matter how you look at it. You could build a nice 8.8 for less money. -
8.8 conversion question
64 Cheyenne replied to driverdave's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
WELL EXCUSE ME THEN........ Seems kind of a moot point to me, to install an an 8.8 without using the available lift that can be gotten from it by going spring over. Oh wait! you mean I could have put my 8.8 in,sprung under,no lift, and used near stock tires? Well I'll be Durned, hafta look into that! Heck,I shoulda just kept the D35! -
8.8 conversion question
64 Cheyenne replied to driverdave's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I got my local carquest to order mine. Spicer part number 2-2-1379. $37 delivered. I'm kind of in the middle of this right now,(8.8 swap) My understanding is that if you reuse the stock spring plates with their stock shock setup, you can reuse your stock shocks. Travel will be limited with this setup because of the shorter stock length shocks. My plan is to weld aftermarket shock mounts on the axle housing,so I can use a longer travel shock. Shock mounts can be purchased at many places online or you could fab your own. On my (stock)DS I mounted the Spicer flange (with new U-Joints),had to get a new output yoke (because I went from BA-10 2wd to AX-15 231tc 4wd). Set my pinion angle then measured total needed length of my DS. Sent it to the machine shop, had it shortened and balanced for $90. -
HELP!! Cluster replacement issues
64 Cheyenne replied to SchneiderFishing's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
When I did my cluster swap I experienced some of the same problems.Only difference with mine was it only happened with the fuel gauge. (It would peg full) Problem was when I plugged in the connector on the rear of the cluster,I wasn't getting a reassuring "click" meaning good engagement. My fix was to clearance the bottom of the female side/cluster side of the cluster so the plug would engage properly. Used a utility knife. The other thing I did was to put a little more "spring" on the contacts where they engage the plug,I used a small utility pick to do this. Hope this helps. -
94XJ donor for 87MJ questions

Springs-either or,shouldn't matter,same type suspension set-up. -
The fittings AND THE COVER ? the fittings I understand, those are what I'm looking for. Will those fit on any of my old Renix covers? What cover is that in the pic with the red arrows?

FWIW,I wouldn't take a vehicle anywhere with a questionable brake issue. Got some pics?Any lift? Oh, and welcome to the club!

That is where I started this mod. I wanted to do as JeffMJ did. My understanding is that I need to do away with the "tower" style replace with the "flat baffle" style. As you said hornbrod,I could make this one work.Which leads me to ask why couldn't I just replace my rear vent hose with a larger one to cure my problem? I think I could do this, but I think I'd like the added insurance of using the better updated design.

Got a Pic?

I bought a VC off of ebay for $20 supposed to be for 99up.This is a Renix one,am I right? My belief is that I need a VC and hoses off of a 4.0 from 97up to help cure my blow by oil puking issues on my 88 Chief as seen here. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=17699 Pics So what years up am I looking for to get a flat baffled pan,not one with the "towers"? Did I get sold the wrong VC?
