Ive been VERY happy with the full set of black JK takeoffs shocks that I put on my truck. The price was right too. It took minor modification to make them fit, but they work very well. If youre mechanically inclined at all, its easy to modify them to work.

With the Dodges, you might look into power ratings with the manual trans, many of the Cummins power ratings are detuned for manuals due to the dual mass flywheel. Not sure if thats an issue for you, but something you might need to know if getting one.

2.5 block interchange years?
dasbulliwagen replied to Green Mesa XJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Don't forget the Dodge Dakota! -
My daughter is getting older fast. She will be 10 this year. I've always thought it would be good to build my 86 Comanche X for her to drive when she comes of age. It will be here before I know it. It was originally a 2.8 5 speed truck that I raided to put it's four wheel drive system in my 87, among other things. I also have a mostly complete 86 XJ Waggy parts vehicle that is also 2.8. I'm figuring between the XJ and my latest purchase, I can build a nice V6 MJ for my daughter. The latest part is this 1995 Chevy Camaro 3.4 v6 with 700R4. 138,000 miles. Runs and drives good. Trans supposedly has only 20,000 miles on a rebuild. Came with two sets of wheels, and a Borla header system that hasn't been installed. I'd like to keep the full injection system set up standalone, and maybe even the 700R4 set up as 2wd. Though the XJ has an A904/NP229 setup in it or I have the 2wd AX4 out of my 87. I have lots of details to work out. I'll start a build page when the time comes too. Here's the donor.

We got the new Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk in today at the dealership. I got to drive it as part of the new vehicle check in. This thing pulls HARD with it's all wheel drive. It was actually pretty comfortable too. Very streetable for 707 horsepower.

Theres a writeup somewhere on installing a Dakota bench in a Comanche, gives you a fold down armrest and option for a middles seat.

What shocks to get/needed
dasbulliwagen replied to rylee144's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Depends on your intended use. If its street all the time, the stock style shocks should work for now. if youre going to wheel it hard then get the correct length. I have black JK takeoff shocks on mine front and rear. They drive great and are about an inch longer than stock MJ shocks if I remember correctly. There is minor mods to make them fit, but you can find them cheap or free sometimes. Good luck. -
I have JK wheels on mine (shortbed) and wasnt able to fit a full size JK 32" takeoff wheel and tire under there. Though a JK 16" steel wheel and tire takeoff fit in there nicely. Threre has to be 2-3 inch difference between the two. So as was said, 31 might be tight depending on actual size and brand.

Anybody seen five slot mags on a Comanche?
dasbulliwagen replied to NC Tom's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
They are a rare wheel, but I do see them every once in a while. Youll only see them on early model XJ's, like in the link, I think it says 84-86. Most people don't want them as they are 15x6, narrower than the later aluminum wheels at 15x7. There was a full spotless set of these on the Cash for Clunkers XJ Wagoneer that I got a bunch of stuff off of at the time. -
AX15 5spd to a903 automatic 3sp swap
dasbulliwagen replied to MonsterJeep's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I assume when you say AX15 you're referring to it being behind a 4.0. The A904 auto was never offered behind the 4.0 and thus won't bolt up. Now if your AX15 is actually an AX5 behind a 2.5 or 2.8 then it will bolt up. I can't comment on the crank sensor though sorry. I have a spare A904 sitting waiting for a future project, so I'll be curious how this works out. Good luck. -
First off, I'm not trying to be an Azz, just trying to be real. As big as Rusty's is, they don't need you. I'm sure they get proposals like this all the time. With sponsorship like that you'll have responsibilities to be seen a certain number of times at public events weather you want to or not. It would come out of their advertising budget and as such, you'll need to be seen in order for it to be worth it to them. At your age and lack of experience, it wouldn't be worth their time or money to invest in you. To make it worth it, you'll need to show all the off road places you've been to and go to on a regular basis. You'll need Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages documenting your builds and adventures and proof of your number of followers. Not to mention build threads on sites like this one with documented numbers of views. If you haven't proven yourself in that area beforehand, then they have no reason to invest in you. Just save up, build your stuff right, and document everything, then maybe in the future, they'll help you out. Sorry for the dose of reality.

I've yet to do my lift.. haven't had time. We've been remodeling our kitchen, which still isn't done. I have bought more parts though. I bought some front Bilsteins and a Rancho RS9000 steering stabilizer. I wasn't going to worry about rear shocks yet but I stumbled on a leftover pair of rear Bilsteins from a Mopar Ram 1500 2 or 3 inch lift kit. They only used the front part of the lift. The shocks are about 6 or so inches longer than stock so I'll mount them up with some new lower shock mounts. I also bought some longer sway bar disconnect links for the front. Also considering a rear sway bar. I have a couple sitting here that I saved for this reason but I'm not sure it makes a lot of sense with the lift unless I do rear disconnects too. I might wait to see how it corners on road first before I decide. Also bought an Azzys transfer case linkage setup. So many parts... So little time.

I installed one from an XJ Waggy Limited in mine several years ago. I don't remember the wiring being a big deal with it. It's a 32 year old antenna and it still works great.

Our warranty cost on the engine assembly was just over $15,000. That doesn't include the 15 hours of labor, fluids, oil cooler and cooler lines or post repair detail. Yeah, a key would have saved them a bunch.
-
Its not keyed from the factory, just a press fit and torqued to 243 ft/lbs. Aftermarket performance companies that add power to these add keys in order to avoid this, not sure why the factory didnt do it.
-
I've been working on this 2015 Hellcat all week. I put a new complete engine assembly in it at 8700 miles. The unkeyed crank pulley came loose, thus no longer driving any accessories including the supercharger, and ruining the end of the crankshaft. I did drive it afterwards, so technically it was on the street per rules.

2.5 Common Problems
dasbulliwagen replied to Master7122's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The 2.5 and 4.0 are closely related and share several parts. Any issues that are common to a 4.0 base engine are common to the 2.5 as well. The 2.5 doesnt have the 2 piece rear main seal though so if thats an issue the trans will need to be pulled to change it. Otherwise it will run forever just like a 4.0. Just remember to keep power expectations low, and you won't be too disappointed. -
Spare Tire Mounting Options

Why is there a plate light BEHIND the bumper??
dasbulliwagen replied to JE39's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That's the same light and plate setup that was on my rear bumper delete when I bought it from the original owner. I have an XJ rear bumper there now with a custom plate mount and LED lighted bolts. -
Interco has 4 styles available in 33-10.50-15, only one of which MIGHT be considered an A/T by some, the SS-M16. But yeah, like was said, its not a popular size.

Non-CAD D30 question
dasbulliwagen replied to Jeep Driver's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Probably 3.73 if it was a 2.8L, maybe even 4.56 if it was a 4-cylinder. Its a 2.8 with A904 auto and the 228/229 transfer case. Ive read that the 3:73 was the most likely ratio for that combo but wasnt sure because of the auto. -
Non-CAD D30 question

I saw the ad for that last week too, and wondered about getting it, though I don't need it. Glad you got a good score.
