answered my own question. the wires are all over the place.

wait, are all 87-90s pre-wired for the quartz? all my quartz are pinned different.

I've heard both that the little metal pins need to go and that they can stay. I'm thinking it might have to do with different brands of rubber trim, but it could also be installer error or something else. so I cut them off just in case for the 88 I'm working on when we got the glass replaced. do not expect to reuse your current windshield. the old glass is INSANELY easy to ruin when you try to remove it. bonus points is that the rubber trim is free if you order new glass for a 97+ XJ. super bonus points is that you get brand new glass to see though! do plan on finding surface rust where the urethane needs to bond to the steel. very common and the glue won't adhere properly unless it's addressed. if it's too cold where you are for painting, I'd probably wait until spring to do this job.

love those classic graphics if the peugeot is currently working fine, I'd probably keep it. be nice to it and it'll be nice to you. you'll definitely need to track down an 87-90 gauge cluster. 91+ went to a completely different system. If you can't find one locally I have a couple for sale.

interesting! I've never given any thought to that particular location of engagement. though my first thought is slapping a bunch of grease on the pilot shaft, assembling/disassembling everything and seeing if the measurements match where you see the grease line move. but then I'm always leery of my own measurements.

how well it was cared for means the most. the fact that it runs/drives well and has working AC is a good indicator. our trucks rot from the inside out though, so any holes you see on the outside are likely far worse in the inside.

turkey day! I think my Bro-in-law is air-frying this year. after a day of brine-soak of course. will find out this afternoon. got the xmas tree down from the attic because I was up there anyway, but I'll wait to decorate until later. and yes, I only set up 1/4 of a tree each year. and the Lions are doing pretty good this year so maybe they will make it an entertaining game.
