that's what my research has shown. the 'i' number matter a lot less than the actual ghz of the chip. found me a couple handy-dandy webpages showing the specs on each and every i chip so I can reference and compare. I'm not buying new, but rather a used 'puter that's around 200-250 that was once over 500. I use it for internet browsing but with my particular brain issues I need a coupe browsers and sometimes 50 tabs open for days at a time. Just looking for something that can handle that comfortably. honestly I'm probably putting waaaay too much energy into this, but the engineer in my wants to make sure I'm getting the best for my money. I think I'm going to get a run of the mill 8470p, either i-5/7 with at least 2.6ghz, and an SSD (plus a caddy to have a second hard drive for photo/movie storage to keep the ssd from filling up). I already have a couple 4 gig ram cards from the old laptop. that should handle all my needs and then some.

the state in which it lived doesn't matter as much as whether or not the Jeep that was cared for. the farm states and the bible belt all have nice Jeeps for sale. be sure to ask for pictures. lots of pictures. of the frame, the underside of the floorboards, the bottom edges of the doors (the inside edge that you only see if the door is open), and the rockers. ask for video of it running. do all the research you can before thinking of getting a ticket. and then don't let it touch winter. ever. if you're looking for something perfectly clean that you can then plow through the salt all winter as a daily driver, don't bother trying so hard to get a clean one. get one that is more local and has been cared for.

still rainin'. looking at the radar, it looks like it'll be doing that for quite a while. but the predictions are the "center" will go more east than north so hopefully it will be more rain than wind here by atlanta. looks like florida got hammered

excellent writeup! I had the opposite post-project issue in my Dakota. I replaced the crappy marker housings with new aftermarket and that showed how awful the headlight housings actually were.

ummmm, upon further inspection those part numbers are for the 4.0 so ignore them. not much changed from 86 to 88 with the 2.5L, but someone else will have to confirm since I don't own a 2.5 to reference.

So my baby died on me last week while on vacation. won't turn on at all. I've swapped around batteries and power bricks (my dad has an identical netbook so that part was easy) and I've done a few more of the easier repair steps to try and coax life back into her to no avail. But as I was doing all that I started to realize that she wasn't up to my current needs anyway and it was probably time to step up to a fullsize laptop with a processor that can push past her measly 1.5 ghz. so I've been doing research and I think I've narrowed it down to the HP EliteBook (8470,8570,8770) preferably with the i7 chip but a later i5 is also acceptable. Acer makes a 4820tg that also sounds good (runs an i5). they are mild factory "gaming computers" from a few years back that should handle anything I throw at it (especially since I don't game on a laptop). my budget is around 200, maybe 250. this is literally stealing money that I was saving for the Liberty so I need to keep the costs down. I don't need a touch screen. I don't need to run apps. Windows 7 is a must. Just need a computer that will surf the interwebs without choking on firefox. I'm open to other ideas though.

that sucks. this is precisely why my folks got the extended Mopar warranty for the Durango. small problems cost big bucks. plus this helps keep their finances easier to predict. I prefer my rigs about 10 years old. by then most problems are well documented and the fixes are known. plus junkparts have loads of parts. should be interesting if that philosophy can still remain valid in another 5-10 years.

just aesthetics. gives the engine bay a splash of color. make sure you do it right though. VCs tend to have years of oily residue in them and need to be super cleaned for the paint to adhere properly.

if you're repainting the truck, I think a matching valve cover would be nice.

mine is still a brick sitting on the floor of the trailer because I'm on vacation and won't be able to start a diagnosis for another day or 2. the not knowing what's lost is just the worst.

ain't nobody got time for that at least I got it mostly right not having my own computer has made my usually discombobulated brain even more so.

between the radio and the cluster went the vehicle warning system thingie. can't remember what it was called. Sentry? it came on very very few XJs and gave notice of low oil in the pinions, trans temp, and other things.

I know how ya feel hoping to get that throttle body and linkage into my girl this winter and actually putter around the yard. then see what all else has gone wrong in the last few years. baby steps.

backspacing is key. aftermarket steel rims push the tire out and they start contacting the fenders when you turn.

bring along a fridge magnet (nothing too strong) and try to stick it to the rockers and above the rear tires. it won't stick if there's anything other than steel in there. Our trucks rot fromt he inside-out so the really bad stuff is always hidden.
