well, I already knew I was pushing the limits of my knowledge and have now proved that by somehow disabling my wifi in the bios. I managed to undo the damage but clearly a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing. going to need a bit more step-by-step on using the bios to find the info you desire.

my feisty, rebellious spirit? honestly, this particular Tosh harddrive is the only hiccup and if it never ever works, I'll be fine (used 500gb drives are only ~$20). oh, that and the capslock button on this keyboard. for some reason I now hit it a lot. I'll give it another week and if my brain hasn't acclimated to it, I'm just going to rip it off the board.

I cannot access it in any way, not using my computer, nor my father's (also running 7). assuming I can someday, I intend to format it. I have not yet tried installing it as the only hard drive. I'm just not sure what all that would do.

the toshiba should not have an os on it. (my seagate from the old laptop did and was causing some early confusion, but that is no longer in the picture).

links are too short? most quick disconnects are longer than stock to accommodate lifts.

assuming I did it right, windows says my sata driver is up to date. if it matters, I was using my old laptop's hdd in the caddy and it worked (a bit too good).

it does the same thing if I use my hdd adapter cord and plug it into a usb drive. I think the next step is going to be contacting Toshiba.

There's a reason why every car has them. It's a safety device, pure and simple. heck, I'd probably categorize it in the same column as rear brakes. yes, the vast majority of the time you don't need rear brakes at all. but they make the truck work just a bit better and can make all the difference in the world in an emergency. but more importantly, the bolts that hold up the sway bar bushing brackets like to snap right off, even in otherwise clean trucks. they are mean, hateful things. let them soak in PB Blaster for a few days and just be prepared to deal with a snapped bolt should it happen. off road the swaybars can be a hindrance for sure. quick-disconnects will give you the best of both worlds.

the rust on that XJ is just brutal! good to see it got to be a part of something even better also, need more specs on the camaro!

the simplicity is one of my favorite parts of old iron how high are these rpms getting and how often are you going that fast? I mean, my dakota has 3.92s with 27" tires. 2.5/auto came with 4.56 pushing ~28s. or is it more the noise of the engine at those speeds?

did you inspect the resistor pack? the typical failure is the resistors (giving just hi speed), but the pack is prone to corrosion and can fail completely too. I would also give power and ground to the motor to check its condition.
