  1. buyer beware
  2. that's why we asked. but the OP hasn't responded so...
  3. I'm adding in a glasses repair kit too. can't hurt.
  4. nowadays you can buy a truss for the big axles that already has the XJ/MJ/TJ link locations in it. weld it and go!
  5. there's an 86 X nearish to me that is screaming my name but I don't have the $875 to listen. so I'm letting the rest of you know about it so hopefully someone can save it. It's just a 2.8/auto/2wd, but looks dang clean. I'm willing to lend a hand acquiring it and even temporary storage space to someone looking to restore it (drivetrain excluded obviously) and care for it. If you're just looking to slice and dice and beat on it, you're on your own. I have not seen it in person, only grainy pics, so I don't know the details (aka, hows the the floor or why it doesn't run). https://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/cto/d/jeep-comanche/6733863591.html
  6. all things are possible with a welder

    Random Find

it was one of the first (if not the first) build like that. back in the day we only had a pic or 2 and there was great debate about its authenticity.
  8. nice color!
  9. you'll need a whole new driveshaft to go with the SYE. but a SYE is a good strength upgrade if you have the cash.
  10. well, my pumpkin was only partially rotted so I cut out the rot, laid it on its side and cut a face. close enough. or it would be if you weren't me. I then got bored and threw some paper in there which promptly melted the candle and lit all of the wax at once. neat! ended up with a pumpkin with a boiling, flaming cauldron in his head.
  11. was the old spacer the right thickness? I had to adjust the shims a bit on my old 86 with the 2.8 when I replaced the starter.
  12. pics would help. what is your caster set to? is the tire centered front to back in the wheel well?
  13. yeah, I'm a bit confused. the odo goes with the body, not the engine.
  14. what are your end goals? how skilled are you with a welder?
  15. love it! I usually stuffed mine with a sleeping bag and threw a towel over it for my pooch. yours is far more functional
  16. Rob went through 2 dana-44a's before he eventually swapped in a dana 35 to stop the incessant bearing noise under his Grand cherokee. there are people that defend the dana 35 too. I just don't understand. I mean, there are a plethora of proven tough axles out there in the junkyards!
  17. ahh, the joys of being addicted to a truck designed by a desperate, dying company. Do Ranger or S-10 people have these sorts of conversations?
  18. we bought 2 pumpkins last week and set them on the front porch as decorations (planning to carve them today). one rotted itself out already and was pitched. the other has started rotting and we'll see what I can salvage from it this evening. first time that's ever happened.
  19. the addiction is real. I just need one more MJ, then I can stop
  20. yes, those axle assemblies will go in (after you move the perches on the XJ rear axle)
  21. technically the jks have a 44 rear and it's a decent axle, but it's both a different width and bolt pattern. and of course the grand cherokees had the weird 44a with its aluminum diff that seems to like to eat bearings. I didn't include them in my first post because I'd rate them below a dana 44 in reliability. The last rear 44 that is an easy swap would be the TJ 44.
  22. 8.25. I totally glossed over that in Don's post.
  23. it's the rarer one for sure, but car-part.com shows some. long live the internet edit: you have to search for a few different years. and 4.10s were phased out by 05.
  24. lookin' good! did the previous owner mention what was up with the blue highlights?
  25. are you talking about the door seals? late model XJ seals are a bit thicker and go right on.
