factory axle ratio for 87+ is essentially drivetrain dependent. 4.0+stick = 3.07

custom is more or less a fancy term for base, even though you could get a base that wasn't a "custom". 86 was a weird year. the other day I relearned that the 86 Cherokee was a little ahead in trim levels, namely the Pioneer.

if it won't close without use of the handle, then it sounds like you might need to grease up the outers a bit.

It's possible that there might be a point where you run up against a wall (besides the turnover issues) in getting more added. I've noticed that some of the guys that regularly hit the junkyards may not be all that excited about giving away their favorite hunting grounds. it's not like a store. there's only so much good stuff to go around.

adding 1.5" spacers to only the rear will bring those tires out to better match the fronts. the axles are both the same width, but MJs have a bit of a wide butt.

this plus cracking down on the ways that they can resell things. it's harder to get money for a cat converter if the junkyards won't take them. Detroit finally did something about all the missing manhole covers by threatening the scrapyards. but the plate was likely stolen because of pure selfishness. it's hard to combat that.
