why would an alignment be that much? yes, you'll need a better educated shop than your run-of-the-mill idiots at the oil change place, but it's still less than an hour of work. did you get a quote that high?

any 94+ Jeep with the 2.5L (which sounds like a lot but it really only applies to the cherokee and wrangler). probably also the mid/late 90s Dakota with the 2.5 but that's just an assumption.

if you didn't know yet, the 2.5 block was more or less unchanged throughout its run so any year will work car-part.com might be able to find you something nearby. you'll want to look for various years of XJ.

not sure how to explain this, but generally speaking I run straps around the item (a couple times) and then out the open doors. hook them to the frame, and then close the door. the straps don't necessarily need to be super tight (otherwise the door might not close), but in the event of a fender bender I want to know the engine can't go anywhere. also, Uhaul rents trailers and trucks if you choose to abuse someone else's rig instead of your own.

the most common failure is the hose running into the Vacuum reservoir in the front bumper on the pass side. it's a black plastic ball or football. but it could be just about any vacuum line. how's the idle of the engine?

chances are that's a vacuum leak in the system. the defrost is the default position of the diverter door.
