  1. Is there such thing as "too long"? :dunno: The Dakota line I'm running is way long. Try searching the archives for it and see if someone listed a size when they suggested it.
  2. I'd get some used 15x8 steelies and a used set of wide-ish car tires for them. Something about 9 inches across would be nice. :D Then I'd put some effort into hooking up a rear anti-sway bar and put out the cash for some quality shocks. Then it's just a matter of making sure the rest of the truck is good-to-go and then I'd get out and have some fun.

    Year question

I read somewhere that, if you do find a way to kill it (anything can be broken with enough neglect of abuse), it's better to just swap in a junkyard AW-4 than to try rebuilding the old one. Not sure why though. :hmm:
  4. Yeah, we should probably resurrect the MJ of the month this spring. Although the first month may not be fair seeing as you're now famous and all. :D
  5. Eagle is the mod at the moment, but I meant Mods in the general sense that only administration can do it. By the way, I want a refund for the first half of my week. I drove a long long way to still wake up to frozen water on the ground (although it did melt before the sun came up). :D I have internet access now, so I'll be around more often.
  6. It's pretty easy to burn on leaf perches (and that way you could get them in exactly the right spot). I'm just saying, don't limit yourself to this one particular axle just because it already has leafs on it unless it is eactly what you're looking for. If I was to do it, I'd go with 3/4 ton (or pre-78 1/2 ton) Ford stuff for the high-pinion front, but there are other options out there as well.
  7. I cleaned up the thread to include only the legal and sane advise so other members reading it later on can know that there are legal ways of fixing a no-title problem. :D
  8. Next stop: Florida sunshine! :jump:
  9. I've heard that the 97+ Cherokee stripping is a good upgrade.
  10. Unfortunately, it seems that I can't give Mods the power to approve new members. But I imagine they'll only have to wait a day or two before I can get them in. I'll be out of town, but I'm not totally disappearing for 10 whole days. :D
  11. 5 days nothin'. I leave in a couple hours and will be away from my dogs and trucks for almost 10 full days. :( By some weird happenstance, my mom (a teacher in Detroit) has the exact same week off as my sis (a teacher in Atlanta) and so that is the annual migration to Disney World. I should be able to get some irregular internet time, but who knows when or how much. :dunno:
  12. Yeah it's a shame, but I feel it's a necessary evil so people having problems can still post. All 9 of the spam posts today came from a single IP addy so of course it's now very, very banned. :D
  13. XJ shackles would lower by 1/2" and you'd lose some suspension travel because the shackle won't allow full movement.
  14. Coils are only one part of a 6" lift. There's control arms, trac bar, etc. to think about.
  15. Could you expand on that? You're contemplating a huuuuuge investment in time and money when it could be as simple as replacing the TPS or cat.
  16. The ground itself isn't a pain per se, it's when you forget about it and you go crazy trying to figure out why your lights or fuel pump won't work that's a pain in the butt. :D
  17. I don't understand what you're asking. :hmm: How much lift are you looking for? Going SOA and then adding a spacer between the leaf and axle is a poor idea. Spring-wrap gets very bad.
  18. Yup, you're right that you're wrong. All Explorer 8.8s have 31 spline shafts, disk or drum. It's the rangers and cars that have the 28 spline.
  19. I'll be out of town Feb 16-25 (Disney vacation ) and I don't know how much internet access I'll have (we're camping this year). I'm going to leave the anti-spam stuff in place (we get at least 2 potential spammers every day) so if anyone notices a new member having sign-up difficulties, please let them know I'll fix it the instant I get a chance. Last year my souvenir of the trip was a pair of rust free MJ leafs I snagged from a local junkyard. :D No plans for anything like that this year though. :( Guess I'll just put my money into mousy bars. :D
  20. It's an AMC engine. But it does have the 60* GM transmission bolt pattern.
  21. Just a slight mod/addition to the above facts. All Explorer rear axles are 31 spline. The 28 spline ones are found in cars and rangers and they are too narrow or have the wrong bolt pattern. All 95+ Explorer 8.8s have disks. car-part can help you find either axle.
  22. That ain't his; he's never owned anything that nice :brows:  :D This ones mine (well, one of my three):
  23. You mean 2.5L/stick for 4.10s, right? :D
  24. That's a looooong drive just to drink. Plus by the time you can, you'll probably need a passport to get across the border. :(
