  1. You can always get a longer d-shaft and have it cut down by a shop. Then you can get the perfect length.
  2. I added a second main MJ leaf to my packs and have been very happy with it. As far as I can tell the flex is unencumbered and the packs seem to hold up my heavy a$$ truck just fine.
  3. If you've got an automatic, the driveshaft from a 4.0/stick MJ (of the same bed length) will be 1" longer.
  4. To the best of my knowledge our forum software doesn't support it in that way (it was free after all). The best you get at this time is the aforementioned clickable. :(
  5. I wouldn't worry about that just yet unless you're leaving huge clouds of smoke behind you as you drive. It there's an exhaust leak at the connection between the manifold and exhaust pipe, I would try to fix it and see what happens.
  6. I won't buy it 'til they find that missing gear in the trans. :brows:
  7. Yup, that was another possibility. 86 was a crazy year.
  8. That reminds me, if the 4 speed manual was available in 92, then it might have 3.55 gears. Eventually the 4 speed went away and eventually the 2.5 was given 4.10 gears regardless of transmission, but I don't know what years the cutoffs were. For 86 you could have 3.31 (not likely), 3.55 with the 4 speed manual,or 4.10s with the 5 speed manual but the only way to really know is to look since the "rules" were either fairly liberal in the early years or we just haven't broken the code yet. Best bet is to look at the tag on the diff cover.
  9. I concur with taking off the shift tower. But I was thinking it was 10 mm. :dunno:
  10. Dirty just sent me a writeup so we'll use his as the guinea pig to see if my process plan will work. Lead', you may as well list the stuff you have here. The project titles at least, not the whole shi-bang. After I work out the best way to do this, you'll likely be posting them one at a time in the tech section before you need to send me anything. I want to give the group a chance to comment on them or ask questions before I get too involved with any potential editing.
  11. Not every sentence comes across quite right when typed. It's a short-coming of the internet and I suppose a big reason why we have all those little guys to click on.
  12. For 1992: 4.0L+stick = 3.07s 4.0L+auto = 3.55s 2.5L+stick = 4.10s Dana 44 wasn't standard but was optional with certain things. Doesn't matter what trim level it was.
  13. Those should fit fine. Stock tires were generally 205 or 225.
  14. I'm still confused. Any chance you can snap a photo?
  15. Any and all projects are welcome. :D Anything above 3 megs is good for our usage. The bigger the better so there's plenty of room to crop and zoom if needed. What I fear most are dark or blurry photos. At least these days the digital cameras allow for instant review. I had only film cameras back when I did the initial buildup of my 88 back in the day. That's why there are so few photos in my early albums (like installing the TJ driveline and adapting the Bronco axles) and plenty of the photos I did have are iffy. Technology is awesome. :D
  16. Neutral? Oh that's right. I didn't even think about the fact that I punch the clutch pedal when I go into lo. Shows you how long it's been since I've wheeled one of my MJs. :(
  17. Lighten up TNT, :D I'm sure everyone is voicing their opinions because they care, and they want to make sure you've weighed all the options. On another note, I envy you guys that don't give a second thought to all that bodywork. My "bodywork" tends to involve aluminum or stainless steel sheet and screws/sealer.
  18. Oh, and please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, can everyone take some decent photos? Make sure there's plenty of light and hold the camera steady. And take them on the highest resolution you can. You don't need to give us the biggest photos in the world, but I'd like to see if I can host all of the photos for every project so that means I'd want you all to eventually email me the top quality versions of each photo and I'll shrink them as needed. I'll alter the original post to reflect that.
  19. Absolutely. :D
  20. Don't take it the wrong way. Hornbrod is just thinking about your safety.
  21. The 231 is shift-on-the-fly for 4wd-hi, but not for 4wd-lo. But with that being said, mine usually needs to be rolling at a couple mph to get it to engage into 4wd-lo.
  22. Flaming would go against rule #1, so don't worry.
  23. I think he's looking at a 92 that is minus the A/C. And the next thought is if he passes on this 92, should he pursue a renix or H.O. powered truck?
  24. Natural ramps are the best. :D Occasionally I wonder what my score would actually be, but then the thought passes as I hit the next mud hole.
  25. In my head I see it containing smaller projects. Not necessarily simple, but projects that are concise and contained that don't go on for pages and pages like an engine swap would. And I'm not certain if we need to cover things that a Haynes manual would have, although I've gotten frustrated with the Haynes or even my FSM when working on stuff so maybe that's futile to try and avoid. After all, who knows how to swap a fuel filter better than those of us that have done it a half-dozen times. So maybe we should put it this way: there are no set limitations on what can be covered, anything from installing a radiator, to installing an interior overhead light, to changing a fuel pump, to bobbing a bed, to a 4x4 conversion. As long as it's a single project. If you're doing something that's close to a straight 4x2 to 4x4 conversion, that's awesome. But you won't find my 88's "conversion" in there since it's made up of like 50 individual projects (although you might find some of them eventually). And yeah, we'll probably need to get a difficulty rating system in there. :brows: Maybe: 1- common tools, novice skills. 3- less common tools, some mechanical experience would be nice. 5- Expensive tools, you'd better know what you're doing.
