  1. Out of curiosity, did you already swap in the 3.73s? Did you swap in the axles or just the gears? 4.88s would be the best match for 33s and a 2.5.
  2. Did it run at all when you bought it? Did it sit for any length of time? Could be old gas.
  3. The 4.0 never came with any sort of "granny gear" in any trans. Do you know which trans they have? What size tires do they run? Gears in their axles? All of these thing together give you the final drive ratio. Also the 4.0 has way more torque than the 2.5.

    new tow rig

Nice buy. Is it supposed to be that high in the rear? Or low in the front?
  5. As hard as any other swap that requires a whole new drivetrain and custom everything. :D
  6. Shortbeds only had an 18 gal tank. Longbed had either the 16 gal or the 23.5 gal (which in the later years became standard)
  7. I still have my original schwinn hanging up in the garage. Yellow banana seat and everything. :D I too will restore my ol' bike to its former glory (though I might change the colors). I think it's getting time to break out the mountain bike. Maybe this year I'll buy some "street" tires for it. It's a bit too much of a workout with those dang nobby tires. :rotf:
  8. I just can't get past thinking that we'll still be fighting the same 2 issues, namely getting people to put locations in the titles and the fact that few people seem to actually look at the forums below Tech and the Pub. It's not like there are dozens of daily posts in the wheeling forum to cause recent threads to get bumped off the front page. Are you guys thinking that having regional forums will get people to look at them? To post in them? I've always been a big advocate of simplicity, and adding another handful of forums just doesn't really strike me as a solution.
  9. Nope. They work on completely different systems. You'll need one from an 84-90 XJ or 86-90 MJ. 84-86 are direct swaps, 87-90 will take a bit of swapping the speedo cable retention clips or something like that.
  10. Used gas tanks are notoriously difficult to ship (being hazardous cargo). Also, I'm not sure if a shortbed tank will easily swap to a longbed. :hmm:

    ICON 4x4

I saw a blip about that in a mag a while back. I seem to remember the price being astronomical.
  12. If the J-bolts and straps are all rusty and crusty, I'd get new ones and just cut the old.
  13. There may be something of use in here: http://www.jeeptech.com/convtrans/ax15swap.html I adapted my old master to the new slave so I side-stepped the new master mounting issues.
  14. 4.10/2.5L trucks came with the 5spd AX-5 which gave you overdrive for the freeway and 4.10s for the stoplights. Best of both worlds.
  15. Ok, someone let me know if I've done this right, but I found a site that pegged the "Cherokee 2.5ltdi (early)" at 85 KW and 300 NM. Converted with formulas I found online that gives me 114 hp and 221 ft-lbs. yes? :hmm: Not quite as nice as my Libby CRD, but I'd still buy one. :D
  16. But I don't understand how "regional" forums will facilitate that better than a post either in the wheeling or pub forums. :dunno:
  17. Which trans was it in '00 4.0 TJs? My sis had one and it was kinda noisy. Not a whining though, more of a rattling whenever the clutch was disengaged.
  18. No problem at all. Just PM me an address.
  19. Which engine/trans do you have?
  20. You could always go with the first radio I ever installed. :D Stuffed between the front seats of the ol' Escort (ordered sans factory radio).
  21. Hooray for firefox and their spellchecker! I can't spell to save my life. :D
  22. Looks pretty stout. Is this the new thing in offroading, finish-it-yourself parts?
  23. Looks like plenty of room on that cardboard for various switches. No radio? Clock?
  24. Mine's pretty hack, but it works great. The hose goes from the valve cover to the top of the jog. Then a second hose goes from the jug to, um, somewhere else. I used to have a smaller container, but it filled too quickly on the freeway and by the time I got to colorado, I came up with the current configuration from the stuff I had on hand. If you've got any vehicular inspections in your area, you may need to be more discreet in your setup and definitely route the second hose to the airbox to keep all the fumes contained. I'm not the only one with a collection system like this. Others here have done it and some look way better than mine.
