Very professional work, so far. I like how detailed you're getting with it. Do it right, or don't do it, right? My opinion on the transfer case would be to just put a 231D in it from a dodge pickup, but a 231J might even hold up. I'm no expert. -
It all started last night when my wife came home with a mysterious box. I got up to investigate as she laid it on the counter with a *thump*. It was a cardboard box, and inside it, 10 lbs of bacon. Once I quit giggling, I decided I was going to try my luck at a BACON EXPLOSION!!! Through my typed word, and my illustrative pictures, I'll walk you through this fantastically manly delicacy. The first step in achieving this meaty delight, is to weave your bacon. This will be the wrap of your giant meat burrito. You'll want to make it as big as the bacon you've chosen allows you to. Helpful hint: If you use thicker bacon, it's easier to work with, as bacon gets more slimy and stretchy as it gets room temperature. I sprinkled a little lowrys seasoning on mine. While I was weaving the bacon lattice, I picked some of the oddball slices out of my big-box-o-pig and let them simmer on low/medium heat on the stove. We'll use these later, just fry them to the point you normally eat bacon at. Next step is the patty. Most recipes call for Italian sausage, or some kind of pork sausage. I decided to use ground beef from my uncle's farm. Most of the time I work with beef, I use an egg or two to help it stick together. I also diced up a tiny bit of onion and mixed it in with the meat, but made the meat want to fall apart when it came time to roll it. After the meat got massaged, I put it in a patty the same size, or a little smaller than the lattice. I also seasoned this, lightly. At this point, you're ready to take your stuffin's from the skillet and spread them over the patty. I also chose to cover mine in bbq sauce. As you may have noticed, I used a flimsy cutting board for the patty. This, along with the knife, made it easy to roll without breaking it. It also made it easy to set the whole thing on top of the lattice. As you can see, it's only about 3/4 KABAR long/wide, a very manageable size. Now it's time to roll the beef tube in the bacon lattice. As you see from the picture above, I set it right in the middle, so that I can pull the sides to the top and weave them together for maximum strength. Once you've got your work of art assembled, it's time to fire up the grill. Now when it comes to putting it on the grille, I cheated and used two people. My lovely assistant Sarah slowly flipped the pan upside down while I cradled my meat baby in a sheet of aluminum foil (folded several times for stability). I waited for the fire to die down and get a nice warm bed of coals, then put the bacon-explosion on the top rack and closed the vents most of the way for a nice slow cook. Helpful hint: You can mold your tin foil in a way that directs the grease (and there WILL be grease) away from the coals, and it won't flare up on you. Just pulled it off the grill after about 2 hours, and can't wait to tear into it. Here's what the cross section looks like. Most of the moisture is bbq sauce, not grease. At this point, some people will say smother it with bbq sauce, but I'm going to eat mine the way it is. Throughout the entire recipe, it's pretty much "season as desired" since bacon and meat are delicious without any help. I hope you've enjoyed my little story. I'd like to thank Nick Simon for helpful tips and tempting pics. I'd like to thank my wife, Sarah, for randomly showing up with a 10 pound box of bacon. Lastly, I'd like to thank KABAR for being the sharpest knife in my kitchen. It makes my cooking experience feel that much manlier. I'm going to eat. Hindsight: I'm not going to season my next one (or only season with cracked pepper), and I'm going to use a sweeter bbq sauce. I can let the people decide what they'd like to put on it as they eat it.

Thanks man. I've tried normal hair, but I can't stand it. In the past 5 years, I've had a mohawk for about 4 of it total. My daughter's name is Izzy, she's a ton of fun. I also got my friends and wife to pose in one of them old-timey pictures (suckers!). Wife is sitting.

Took my wife and daughter to the fair Friday night with some friends. I really wanted to let her shoot the bb gun. At first she was a little intimidated, then when I showed her what it did to the star, she pushed my hand away to get at the trigger.

Well, I haven't had the time or money to work on it lately, but that may be changing soon. I'm going on a camping trip tomorrow, I'll be back Sunday, and I have to finish a little tuckpointing job (replacing mortar) and I'll be sending the engine off to be pulled apart to replace the cam, lifters, pistons, and whatever else sucks. My stupid move of the year, to date: Completely stripped the MJ while it was on the carport, pulled the engine into the garage and put it up against the work bench. Had a few buddies come over to help me shuffle the MJ over into the garage (very light, 2 guys can pick up each side of it). Then I pulled the front dummy axle out and started cleaning the underside of the truck (you could seriously eat off this thing now.). Now it's time to take the engine to the shop, but there's a truck shell with no front suspension sitting in the way...I'll have to see if I can move it all the way to one side of the garage to make room for the hoist... :wall: Anyway, I've picked up some work recently, so I'm slowly starting to get back on track with this project. The next few purchases/installs should be very unique and interesting.

It probably sounds much better in person, also. Not bad, not bad at all.

I wonder if that would make every new forum open in a new tab though... I'll try the roller ball thing, I use firefox.

I'm not sure if this goes in here, or the pub, sorry. Whenever someone has a link posted, and I click it, it doesn't open a new tab, it just takes my current window to that page. It's not like this on any other websites I go to. Is this a setting that I have to change, or is it on CC's end? I just want it to open a tab if I click a link in someone's post. Thanks in advance for any help.

Another board I'm a member on is very global, like this one, except it's quite a bit larger (just because it appeals to a more general crowd). You're welcome to check it out at http://zombiehunters.org/forum/ It's an organization centered around community disaster preparedness and charity work, and we go on a lot of killer camping trips, shooting trips, hikes, blood drives, food drives, etc, etc... The reason that the internet side of that site stays so clean (for the most part) is because of some very basic black & white rules. Must be 18+ to post on the forums. Any flaming or name-calling will not be tolerated. (Of course some people are going to joke around though, it happens) No politics or religion. When the 18+ rule is broken, it's an immediate ban. When the other rules are broken, it can result in a "probation" tag under the persons username (It used to be "asshat", before they started to get more professional), and further ignorance to our rules results in a ban.

Most of us just upload the pictures to photobucket, then post them here. I don't think there's a way to upload them to the site like hotrodders.com does. I'd like to see some pictures of the engine sitting in the bay. I've not compared sizes of sbc to sbf. I would think that since your disty is in the front, you'd be able to let the engine run a little higher without worrying about it hitting the firewall. What kind of trans do you plan to run?

I got my hopes up when I realized you were in IL, then I found out it's a 6 hour drive from me, a little west of StL. One of these days I'd like to pop on over and check the truck out. I would really like to see pictures of your roll cage, and how you routed it, if you don't mind. -
The only information I can give you is to be found here. I have a friend that's installing one into a 98XJ right now. http://midwestjeepthing.com/forums/topi ... 18&M=1&S=1

For what it's worth...I don't run a stabilizer on my XJ with 33x15.5 mickey thompsons on it...They're against my beliefs... Can you post a picture of what you're dealing with? My 350 cleared fine.
