  1. had a car repo'd from me back in the early days when my wife and I were struggling to get by as semi-newlyweds, bought my MJ from a widow and used it as a DD for about 5 years. Things got alot better with us relocating, started using it as the truck it was intended to be (landscaping and doing second jobs). Now it's an occasional wheeler/hauling vehicle, completely impractical as a DD, but it's a project I enjoy working on that keeps me out of the bars ;) Jeff
  2. Rob, The tooth counts on Dana gearsets are stamped into the face of the ring gear. Not saying the "counting teeth" method won't work, but to be 100% certain, check the stamp. There will be a long series of numbers stamped, like 2947384-3824423 (not an actual set of numbers there, I just mashed the 10-key pad as an example) and then a space, and then a set of two numbers all by themselves....like 41 10 or 37 9 (for 4.10's anyway). Before you plunk any cash down, go eyeball this for yourself and verify. Jeff
  3. Yep, got mine at TSC. They sell it in rattlecans for a ridiculous price per can, and also in the gallon size too. IIRC it cost me about $25 for that gallon, and I only used about 1/8th of it (and that's putting three coats on each leaf). Since then, that same gallon has been passed around to a few other local jeepers down here and there's still about 1/2 of it left. Leaves are still holding up great, no squeaks at all. I got roughly 6" on my SOA, but I went from 2WD packs to 4WD ones as well, netting an an additional inch or so. Jeff
  4. yup...sorry, I shoulda mentioned that.
  5. Lincoln lock it with some JB Weld....... Jeff
  6. I've got a new IAC that I picked up awhile ago, I'm going to swap it in this weekend and see if it makes any difference. Jeff
  7. #1 - Light blue #2 - Light green #3 - Tan #4 - Yellow #5 - White #6 - Brown Jeff
  8. :agree: I refurbed a set of junkyard packs to run on mine, but that’s just how I roll  Started with these: Image Not Found tore them all apart and cleaned them up with an angle grinder and wire wheel, and painted them with a graphite-based paint (EZ Slide): Image Not Found Image Not Found replaced the center pins and the sleeved bolts for the clamps: Image Not Found Image Not Found I also replaced all the bushings (couldn’t press them out myself so I took them to a shop that bent me over a little bit for the presswork they did, but oh well…..). Finished product: Image Not Found Jeff
  9. I know Rick (xjs4ever) had that problem on his old MJ, and he fixed it with some plating/welding. Maybe he'll chime in on this.... Jeff
  10. Instead of a 60/40, how about a hybrid bucket/bench combo? Use a bucket for the driver seat and an XJ rear bench seat for the rest...... Of course, I'm not basing the idea on any type of measurement and/or aesthetic concerns.... Jeff

    Headed South.

Gimmie a holler on your way past Richmond if you want, I live literally 2 minutes off I95 (exit 58B). Oh, and bring me and the wife some good Amish food. We're going up to Lancaster for a beef roast later this month, but I need a quick fix to get me by until then :D Jeff
  12. Guys, need a little troubleshooting help here......occasionally on startup, the 4L surges for a good 4-5 seconds around 2K rpms, then settles back down to a normal idle. Doesn't do it every time. Sticking IAC, maybe? It's not new, but it is clean (I tore the TB completely apart when I rebuilt prior to install). Jeff
  13. X2, subscribed :brows: I've got a NIB Airtex XJ HO assembly sitting in the parts bin I'd love to be able to use. Jeff
  14. Don't worry......I measured that carefully, trust me  . There's a strip of housewrap across the top that needs to be cut a bit, so it looks a bit deceiving. But, the garage door (when opened up) sits about 9" from the top of the framing :shake: . If my calculations are correct, I *should* have about 3" of clearance to get it in and out :brows: Jeff
  15. I'm really starting to worry about you, man...... must be that rarified Waynesboro air way up in the mountains :rotf:
  16. LOL Wildman......I lost the post-lift option when we decided on the bonus room overhead for the missus :fs1: House is coming along nicely, and the weather is cooperating so far……now that the roof is on and the doors/windows are in, rain isn’t so much a concern until we’re almost done and the driveway and walkways get poured and the landscaping goes in. Image Not Found garage: Image Not Found looking from the garage into the first floor: Image Not Found dining room: Image Not Found bonus room for the wife above the garage: Image Not Found view from the bonus room of the rest of the second floor: Image Not Found part shot of the master bedroom: Image Not Found shot of the MJ from one of the upstairs bedrooms :D Image Not Found
  17. 4.0 swap is fairly straightforward so long as you stay within the same model year range (i.e. Renix, '87-90). I just swapped a 4.0 into mine a few months ago, and have a build thread in the projects forum. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=11205 Welcome to the club  Jeff
  18. X2 and the crossmember itself is assymetrical although it doesn't look it. It will bolt in on one side if installed backwards, but the other side won't *quite* line up (and you'll go nuts trying to figure out why......) Jeff
  19. Where I was born. Coincidence? Jeff Image Not Found
  20. MJ's make great stump pullers.......this was the rootball of a 30' redtip on the corner of my house I took out two summers ago (MJ looked a little different back then :rotf: ) Jeff Image Not Found
  21. most likely, but never assume anything with Jeeps..... if there's not a tag on one of the cover bolts, check the front diff for a tag (assuming you're 4WD). Failing that, the tooth count of the ring and pinion is stamped into the ring gear along the outer face. Locate and divide them to identify the ratio. Jeff
  22. I just wet myself, a little...... Jeff
  23. I can vouch for that statement, 'cause that's what I did. I was able to work out some parts trades for some of what I used, but if I had to buy everything seperately, especially new, I probably wouldn't have had the funds necessary. Just a few things to think about: longer LCAs (mine are fixed, but adj ones would be better, I got lucky on the length...used) adjustable UCAs (bought those new, $225) adjustable trackbar/mount/brace (used) new springs/spacers (used) shocks (and a set of BPE's I bought used and cleaned up) new brakelines ($55) longer swaybar links (I'm running a set of used JKS disconnects bought used) new UJ's and a new (used) front driveshaft That's the short list..... :ack: Jeff
  24. yep, one light goes to the TC indicator and the other goes to the tranny gear indicator. The larger of the two goes to the tranny indicator. Jeff
  25. If it's just a stock bumper, I shipped my old one (MJ rear) via UPS to Texas, and it only cost about $40..... Jeff
