well, doing a little research, it could have a 250, 305, 350, 454 or a diesel (but it's not a diesel, I know that much). I don't want no stinkin' small block that I'm gonna have to dump gobs of $$$ into in performance parts to get HP. I just want to drop a BB in it and be done :clapping: Jeff

There's what looks to be an early to mid-80's C20 pickup down at the junkyard behind the fence. Can't get up close to look at it, but hopefully they'll be putting it out in the 'yard in a couple of weeks.....all I can see is that it has 8 lug axles on it (2WD). Any idea what the engine/tranny combo might be in it? What are the odds on it having a 454 (probably 2-bolt mains, but.....still a 454) under the hood? If it does, I think I just found the drivetrain for the Nova build :D Jeff

forgot to mention, no Venturas :ack: JT, why don't you drag those last two from Charlotte up for me when you come do your flottata and help me move my crap :D Jeff

oil pressure, band-aid fix.....
mjeff87 replied to mjeff87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That's refreshing news Eagle, thanks...... jeep_freek, I've been toying with the idea of running some Lucas in it to see what it does, I used to run it and some Restore on the old 2.5 occasionally. Maybe I'll try a quart and see, can't hurt any I figure :D The one thing that I had been noticing with the 10W40 is that it kept getting REALLY thin when it got hot.....I mean thin like water-thin (and it was new oil even, less than a couple hundred miles). If I parked it and let it sit for a couple of hours and it cooled down I would get good pressure back, until it warmed up again. Aside from just about doubling the price, have oil manufacturers changed formulations lately (aside from the ZZDP issues)? Jeff -
If anyone runs across a 68-72 Chevy Nova rolling shell with no rust (or at least no rust that's serious, especially the frame), lemme know....I'm looking for a build platform for my next project ;) . I'm looking for less, not more....just a clean 2 door shell with good glass on a rolling chassis. Drivetrain and/or interior not really required, but I'll buy it all for the right price. Whatever is in it is all coming out anyway. I'd prefer a plain steel roof, but would also take vinyl if the price is good. Basically what I'm looking for is a barnyard find....that kind of old iron that someone parked under a tarp back in the '80's and forgot about, and now that they've found it just want to get rid of it :D Build is gonna take awhile, like a few to several years, but I have big plans for this one  No offense to you northerners out there, but I'm pretty much looking for a southern car here......I had a '72 with a 307 and TH350 back in the day, and lost it to frame rot :wall: If Id'a known then what I know now, I would have paid better attention to it and would still have it.... Thanks, Jeff

oil pressure, band-aid fix.....

200K + (not exactly sure, I got it from Pat when I did the 4.0 swap). I already changed the sender with a new one, unfortunately :( ...that only raised the reading a couple psi. No real ugly noises from the bottom end, just the usual 4.0 racket. But the top end is a bit clackity (especially with the steel valve cover I'm running). Jeff -
I've been noticing the oil pressure slipping off on the 4.0 the more I drive it. At cold start it's well over 40 psi, but as it warms up and especially if I take a highway trip it ends up dropping down into the 10-20 range, sometimes a bit lower at idle (watched the needle drop to 0 once sitting at a stoplight.....not cool). It does rise and fall with engine rpm's, but only gets up to about 30 at the most. 10W40 Castrol dino oil with a Purolator filter, too (that's all I run on my junk). On a whim I changed out to Castrol 20W50 over the weekend, and what an amazing difference. Cold starts I get immediate pressure, 60-70 psi, and it only drops down to 25-30 ish when warm. Valvetrain is kinda quieter too :D Future plans are a stroker out of the 4.0 HO block from my neighbor's YJ that I swapped a couple months ago, so I'm just gonna keep running the thick stuff for now until I get that built and installed. single or double shear? If single, does it come with a frame mount or do you use the stock one? Also, is the TRE replaceable? I run RC shocks in the front, and Jason is really good to deal with, but I wouldn't cheap out on critical suspension parts. Heck, you can buy a stock TB for a bit less than that.... Jeff

I got strippers lined up for pole dancing in the new garage..... :D Jeff

the one I'm thinking of is not too far off I79, right around the Butler area. We used to go to it occasionally......lemme see if I can't get an addy for ya.

I wish we had the technology to e-slap ANYONE who does that. A-frickin'-men, brother. Jeff

just talked to the contract construction manager.....it's really looking like the weekend of the 20th (sorry Greg :( ). Barring any catastrophies, our final walkthru is scheduled for the 11th, and depending on how much crap I find wrong or that needs fixing, we should be closing on the 16-17th. That'll give me a couple days to get in there and put down the floor kit on the garage floor (complete with the ghey rainbow speckles) :D Now we just have to nail the finance rate and lock.....we're targeting 4.0%, and buying 2-3 points on top of that Jeff

geographically speaking, yes....along with probably NJ, DE, and PA possibly. But, I'm pretty far south in VA (about an hour from the NC border) and align myself with the southeast moreso. Seein' as how noone has posted in the mid-atlantic subforum yet, I'd say the Jersey and PA boys (and girls) are probably considering themselves northeast. Maybe there isn't a need for a mid-atlantic group..... Rich.....we're thinking it's gonna be the weekend of either the 20th or 27th, but nothing is set in concrete yet (except my driveway LOL). As soon as I get a firm close date, I'll post up ;) . JT......where you at in NC? For reference, I'm exactly 2 hours from Raleigh/Durham, give or take 30 seconds or so. If you can swing a daytrip, I'll make it worth your while, I promise

I sort of have a thread going on this in the Pub, but I'll toss it in here as well. Some of y'all know my wife and I are building a new house....it's coming along quite well and we're shooting for a mid to late June close and move-in. I can't give a specific date yet, but I'd like to invite anyone to the move-in party at the new place, which is roughly 1.2 minutes away from our place now :D We need as many hands as we can get, plus trailers/MJ's or anything you can haul crap in. My goal is to have everything moved in three hours at the most, and then party down. I'll feed you FAT (just ask Wahoo....), beer and/or soda you up, and generally show you and yours a great time. I'm thinking filet mignon, ribs, chicken, and shrimps on the grill (may throw a pork shoulder in the smoker too) and more booze than you can shake a stick at. The two biggest things that need hauled are a 37" console TV from hell, and our new refrigerator.....all of the rest of the appliances are staying (got all new ones in the new house already). I've already got all my Jeep crap moved out to a storage facility down the road, so we don't have to fool with any of it, but we do have a ton of boxes and furniture to go. Location is Chester, VA which is about 20 miles south of downtown Richmond, VA. Our subdivision is very easy to get to, we're right off I95 about 3 minutes. If anyone wants to make a junkyard run too, bring your toolbox and your wallet. Be there or be talked about ;) Jeff

yeah, you Pete...it wasn't a bedliner type product per se, but you had some cans of some kind of tan-colored gloop that you tried to spray in a homebrew paintbox you made inside a garage. Remember, you painted yourself, your dog, the garage, the driveway, the mailman, etc...... :ack: Jeff

ask Pete about that spray on texturizer/paint stuff he tried to shoot on the sides of his rig a few months ago.....THAT was one funny post! Jeff

I tried to scratch a small little "Jeep" or "MJ" in the corner......the wife wouldn't let me  I did find a crisp, new one-dollar bill on the lot one day a couple weeks ago that someone must have dropped. I folded it up and stuck it between the bricks in the center of the front porch and it's now buried there under the 'crete for posterity. We can always say we have money now :rotfl2: Jeff

*disclaimer- I have not done this, but there was a similar thread on here or NAXJA not too long ago...only going on what I remember..... It does seperate. Clamp the large round black piece in a bench vise and slide a thin metal something or other up along one of the flat sides of the square stock going into it and pull the bottom piece, which should come off. Like I said, I've not done this before. HTH, Jeff edit: here you go.....http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.p ... 15+shifter it's suggested that hacksaw blades are good for sliding along the flat parts to disengage.....excellent pics of the whole assembly on the very last post.

little JB Weld on that and you're good to go........ :rotf: All of our compressors are screws, and we've already replaced 3 of them due to floodback due to poor system design not accomodating all the return liquid from hot gas defrost. Simple physics, you can only compress a liquid but so much..... Jeff
