Replacing motor mounts?
mjeff87 replied to jeep_freek88's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
RE: Brown Dog mounts (copied and pasted from a NAXJA thread that has gone a bit off tangent so I won't post the whole link): Back in Dec I needed new motor mounts and I have herd nothing but great stuff about Brown Dog motor mounts ... Got them and was more then impressed by them... Like a normal guy I did not read the directions at install ... after a day or 2 I actually read through them and they state to be very careful not to over tighten the bolts ... so I went back and check and of course i did so i backed them off ... we recently i noticed the drives side bushing was toast ... and I attributed it to my own stupidity ... So today I ordered a new set of bushing ... Well with in a half hour of ordering I get a call from them and he was curious as to why i ordered new bushings so quickly cuz he wants to stand by his product ... After explaining what happening he then explained there was an issue with the drivers side motor mounts on XJs and he had since redesigned. He then proceeded to tell me to make sure everything is right he was going to cancel my order and send me a new motor mount on "warranty" Not only did he go out of his way to find out what happened but made it right even after i said i believed it to be my own stupidity. If I hadn't just bought new OEM mounts, I would be ordering a set of Brown Dog mounts right now..... Jeff -
serp. belt adjustment help 2.5
mjeff87 replied to mjtjnj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
When you say the PS pump is at it's loosest adjustment, do you mean the adjuster is bottomed out underneath it or is the pump as close to the engine as you can get it (or both)? Reason is, on my old 2.5 when I changed the belt the first time, I loosened the adjuster until it almost fell out but the pump barely moved.......and the belt was a bear to get on. The pump had "frozen" into position from not having moved in so many years. In trying to get the new belt on, I stood on the driverside and had to force the pump to move closer to the engine to be able to get it on the whole way. Try this.....loosen all the PS pump bolts and back off the adjuster, then give the pump a good shove. See if it moves any. If you just were barely able to slip the belt on, it may be adjusted to where it needs to be. Jeff -
I'm running Mobil 1 75/90W synthetic in the tranny, but am going to try the 10W30 at the next change (which won't be anytime soon considering how often I drive mine, unless I drown it in a water crossing.....) Me likey the idea of $2.50 per quart of Castrol versus $9-10 for the Mobil :D Jeff

I've got the following in pots, still on the deck at the old house (waiting to be moved this weekend): 4 better boy 'mater plants 2 cherry tomato plants 2 plum tomato plants 4 bananna peppers 2 red peppers 2 green bell peppers 2 curly parsley 2 flat leaf italian parsley 4 basil 1 rosemary 1 cilantro Out back in the old yard, I put in 2 crepe myrtles and a peach tree last fall and in front are 2 chinese maples and a butterfly bush from hades.......gotta dig all those up and transplant them this weekend too. Gonna be fun.... Jeff

This weekend is the official move......spent 5 1/2 hours today laying down the epoxy on the garage floor so it can cure by then. Had to spend all day yesterday with the power company diggin up my new sod in the front yard..we lost a phase....the dickhead gas company nicked the trunk lines when they dug and ran the gas line to the house. Sonzabichez. Jeff

segway on up to VA on your way home Pete......we're moving over this weekend. I see you are already warmed up and ready to haul heavy boxes.... :D Jeff
-
Well, it's officially official.....we close tomorrow afternoon. I'll probably work Tuesday and maybe a half day on Wednesday, then I'll take off through next Tuesday. My wife and I can get most of the boxed stuff and whatnot up during the week, just need help on Sat/Sunday with the furniture. Went to Lowe's/Home Despot four times between yesterday and today, total so far is right around $500 :ack: (blinds, shower curtain rods, garage floor sealer, deck stain, etc...) Jeff

you tend to adapt, but you have to be here for awhile.....few years ago I was out working in the yard sweating my nads off (it was like 100F and about 80% humidity), all of a sudden I realize that my body had gone BONE dry and I started shivering :dunno: I put my tools down to go inside and get a drink of water, and woke up about four hours later on the couch.......I don't remember a thing that happened. You learn to pace yourself, drink LOTS of water (not beer), stay in the shade as much as you can, and time your activities outside accordingly. I'll be mowing my lawn starting at 0630 tomorrow morning, in fact. I should be done by 9-9:30 or so, then in to shower and inside in the A/C for the rest of the day until about 6-7:00. Ever seen the movie "The Chronicles of Riddick"? Yeah, it's kinda like that...... Jeff

Please help! Is this MJ worth the asking price?
mjeff87 replied to comanche09's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I bought my 87 2.5/AX5 2WD way back in 1998, and I only paid $1500 for it then.....and it also only had 68K on it. 10 years later and it's a completely different vehicle, but that's beside the point. I wouldn't go much over KBB on it, if even that at all. JMHO  Jeff -
I jusst got hooked in downtown Richmond a couple weeks ago....parked in a 1 hour spot for a customer meeting I had to go to. Meeting ran a bit long and I came back out to a nice little ticket under my wiper blade....I was 17 friggin minutes over the hour mark. Pissed? yes, but technically I was guilty (they time-mark your tire with chalk as soon as you park, apparently) Paid the fine begrudgingly.....but it was only $20, not $85 :ack: Jeff

Welcome to the fun Scott  sit on the tan couch in the corner at your own risk..... Jeff
-
So far, since the sod went down last Tuesday.....2100 gallons of H2O are down, and I just spread 30# of Scott's starter fertilizer on it all after work today. Water is compliments of the builder, until we close....... :D Jeff

 If you can make it JT, that's great.....we'll sure show you a good time. If not, I understand completely, no need to justify. I'm sure we'll all meet up sometime, somewhere down the line Jeff

dat's some GOOD looking keilbassa...... ;)

I stand with Brent on this one.......having been "on the job" for many years before I ended up doing what I'm doing now (lazy state emplyoee..... ;) ) When it comes down to it, we're not the ones to judge, we just do what we think needs to be done when it needs done. (even though the guy is a total scumbag looser, who I'd probably take around the corner and rearrange his facial attributes given the chance....) Jeff

Saint Florian had your back Brent....... One brew....no, make it three, in respect for your brand of humanity. The world needs more like ya. Jeff
-
Rich...I'm really sorry to keep switching things on ya....I understand if you can't make it, and I truly appreciate your offer to even come in the first place  If you do come up this weekend for the flotilla, gimme a call if you are near...the least I can do is have dinner for you and yours and beer you up a bit :) Greg.....what can't I offer that your frat bros can't???? I gots nekkid womens (they just don't know it yet), tons of booze, premium food (although I know you abstain from over-indulging LOLZ). I mean, really.....what more can you need than this redneck-fest??? ;) JT......where are ya bro? Can you make the reschedule? You can eat and drink both Greg and Rich's share.... Jeff
-
yeah......I know it's probably the worst weekend, but I promise if we start early, we should be done by noon  Jeff
-
UPDATE TO THE UPDATE....... Closing is not going to happen until early next week.......so we won't be moving until NEXT weekend :headpop: So, if anyone was planning to come this weekend (Rich!), don't. Well, you're more than welcome to come by but we won't be moving anything. Sorry..... Jeff

NP231 confusion? Help please!
mjeff87 replied to SkipshotMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
take a pic of the underside of the tranny....we can tell you if it's a BA10/5 or an AX15..........somebody may have swapped it in the past. Jeff -
Congrats Brent, very happy for ya....knew things would pan out for you eventually. I'm not sure if you're a believer in fate, but my life experiences have taught me that everything happens for a reason. It just may take a good amount of time for you to realize what that reason was......<> Jeff

your front axle will be your limiting factor (low pinion). At 3" you should be ok and still be able to use the stock steering and suspension components if you're on a budget and don't want to upgrade. Longer brake lines or relocating the stock ones, and longer shocks too.... Jeff

Renix to HO fuel line HELP!!!
mjeff87 replied to CRF136N's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had a similar problem when I swapped a 4.0 in place of my 2.5. I just installed the 4.0 lines and cut the stock lines at the framerail and spliced them together with some double barbed fittings and double hose clamps. Hasn't leaked to date :D Jeff -
great job on the body and paint, and interior so far  but, ummmm.....V8+5 speed + D35 rear = :ack: I'd definately be sourcing an 8.25 (29 spline) or a D44, or an 8.8. Keep up the good work, and the pics  Jeff
