Probably Jim. Neither one of them was born in the States. They have lived in a lot of countries, have seen a lot of the world and it's citizens and they learned to adapt. I was gone quite a bit, so Mom gets the credit for bringing them up the right way. The first time they experienced any schooling in the States was in an Alabama junior high school. They say it was a culture shock.

Well, there's always the ROTC option. Both my daughters are 1st lieutenants, one in the Army and the other in the Air Force. Whether they make a career out of the military or not I don't know, that's entirely up to them. But they got their education and are gaining valuable life experiences and will be well prepared for either a military or civilian life when their obligation is fulfilled. Especially nowadays when sixty percent of U.S. college graduates cannot find a full-time job in their chosen profession. And I don't see any improvement coming anytime soon.

The 95/96 XJ block has a proportioning valve built-in that regulates pressure to the rear brakes since XJs did not have the rear load sensing valve. On the MJs rear brakes were biased by the load sensing valve. So if you are retaining this valve, you should use the MJ distribution block (no proportioning).

issues with my power window/locks swap
HOrnbrod replied to Kickinmule's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I used the stock 2DR XJ power window switches and made my own cables, but did not do the power door locks. So this wiring diagram may or may not help. You do need to ground four wires from the driver's side window switches so the regulator motors reverse polarity for up/down operation when the switch is made. I grounded them behind the drivers kick panel. The colored dots on the switches represent the wire colors. These should be the same colors as your switches. -

Engine Let so Time for my Stroker install
HOrnbrod replied to Jeepman's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
^^ Thanks for that, must have missed it on their site. I have the Hesco RVOB cam with the proper push rods. So since the Harland Sharp roller rockers simply replace the original stamped steel rockers and do not change the existing lifter preload, looks like I'll be good to go. But I'll chack with Hesco to be sure. I'm curious as to how the CCV system will operate with the valve cover vent towers removed. Maybe they can be shortened just enough as in one of Cruiser's tips to provide just enough clearance for the new rockers. :dunno: -
Engine Let so Time for my Stroker install

Was curious because I read this on their web site: " Must machine head .400 for guide plates and drill & tap for a 3/8 X 3/8 rocker stud.." So I guess you used the stock 5/16" studs with the stock springs, lifters, and push rods? And lastly, which head are you using? I thinking I'll be installing the Harland Sharp rockers very soon. BTW your engine looks great. -

Any problems with the install and clearance of the roller rockers? Was there and special machine work needed? -
These cold weather "top this" threads are always entertaining. What's next? Naked hockey games at 40 below?  Love it, and looking forward to the absurdity when it really gets cold.

Anytime Jim-san. But N. Alabama where I am isn't much warmer than your neighborhood. And yes, I'm sick of winter already too. Seems to get worse every year................

Well Damn Don. Thanks for clearing THAT up. Here all this time I was thinking it was because they didn't like me. :rotf: Well, in your case Jim they probably didn't. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Renix or HO, that's the question... Advice needed
HOrnbrod replied to knever3's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I don't think now is the time to decide between Renix and HO. Thew time to decide would have been before you bought the HESCO relocation kit. The size, shape and distribution of the notches and bumps on the flex plates are different between the Renix and the HO because the CPS for each operates on a different principle and generates a different type of signal. The relocation kit would have to be configured similarly. The problem is, the information on HESCO's web site doesn't say if the kit is Renix or HO. Before making a decision, I'd suggest contacting HESCO to find out. My guess is that, since these kits were offered by HESCO before the HO came to exist, the relocation kit is going to be a Renix-only affair. Hesco makes separate CPS relocation kits for both the 87-90 Renix and 91-04 4.0 engines. Assume you have the Renix kit knever? -
It's good you mentioned that to the recruiters as the medical criteria is cut-and-dry and you saved Uncle some $$ on the physical exam. The biggest show-stopper however is the emotional/mental makeup of recruits that can't be tested except through the rigors of boot camp / recruit training. Thats the job of the DIs, Company Commanders, whatever they are called in the branch you join; to weed out the non-hackers and slackers before it's too late. That's why they are in your face, screaming, dropping you down for push-ups, whatever. To get rid of the deadwood. If you can't make it through boot camp, you don't belong. Now there's no more "laying hands on" as in the past. The emphasis is more on counseling than extreme physical or mental "testing". Thus more deadwood slips through boot camp. It takes a special individual to graduate well qualified recruits consistently while staying within the boundaries that are imposed on them. I have a lot of respect for the guys and gals who can do it well. It's a tough job.

95/96 brake booster but keep 91 master cylinder?
HOrnbrod replied to 91Pioneer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
This is true for your 91. No drilling or whatever. Use the 1/4" spacer if you can then there's no messing with the firewall lip. PnP except for making up new master to distribution block lines. . -
So does Walmart. Same price.

I don't think the 1990 and below original canisters are available anymore new. The originals came apart so you could change the filter and charcoal. But you can get new sealed cannisters that work fine. Rock Auto carries them, Standard Parts p/n CP3045.

Renix or HO, that's the question... Advice needed
HOrnbrod replied to knever3's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've had them Mike. Never again. Don't need the aggravation anymore. It's a shame MJs were deprived until 1991 when the MJ had low production numbers and there are not many stockers around anymore. But it's not too hard to convert to OBD1, thanks to the many XJ survivors. -
Renix or HO, that's the question... Advice needed
HOrnbrod replied to knever3's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That's a no-brainer for all the reasons you mentioned and many more. Go HO, OBD1 is fine and a much easier conversion. If you're a masochist, stay Renix and deal with a new adventure everytime you start it up. If it starts. . -
