  1. Thanks for the pics of the bucket rocker bases Krusty. Now the only problem is to find a set....
  2. It's in the Forum Classifieds - Vendors section. MeanLemons - I'm convinced regarding the ANL vs. Mega Fuse. Can you provide the distance between your Mega fuse holder mounting holes? If it'll work for me w/o drilling more holes, I'll buy one from you.
  3. According to the Renix people, the 90 computer is supposedly a performance upgrade over the 88-89 versions, and I've seen guys do this using using both auto and standard computers regardless of their transmission version with no ill effects, so I doubt it. But I'm certainly no Renix expert and I'm sure someone else will chime in.
  4. Never had a problem with ANL fuse holders breaking, never heard of this problem either. Probably the old adage - you get what you pay for. The only advantage I'm aware of for the Mega Fuse I see is that it's normally a little cheaper.
  5. Looks good Adam. You must be close to Daveys..
  6. No problem. The Renix computers have no "Cali" version like the HOs, just manual/standard tranny versions. They don't care about the exhaust either. They don't have any memory, so it a new ballgame every time you start it up.
  7. My voltmeter has read exactly like that for the twelve years I've had the full gauge cluster in, a needle's width below 14V with the engine running. And I get the same charging voltage across the battery as you using my DVM, ~14.5V. It's nearly impossible to trace it the voltmeter + input wire back from the gauge tell using the FSM to see at what point electrically the voltmeter gets it sensing voltage, but it appears to be at the ignition switch. I've stopped worrying about it, never had a charging problem. But if you find a fix, let me know.
  8. Doesn't seem to hurt mnkyboys 2.5+ turbo too much.
  9. Is THIS the one you have?
  10. Whenever you increase the load on a vehicle's electrical system by adding devices like A/C, lighting, cooling fans, etc., the alternator and it's associated wiring should be upgraded based on the increased total load. Our MJ's electrical systems were barely adequate from the factory to begin with. Increasing the alt capacity requires a set of larger gauge mains cables at a minimum. There are kits available especially for our rigs; forum member Mean Lemons makes a quality kit that has been reviewed very favorably. When upgrading the mains cables I also think it's a good idea to install an ANLfuse in series with the alternator output. The ANL fuse should be sized for the estimated total vehicle load + 25% or so. The ANL fuse's job is to protect the alternator and it's associated wiring should a catastrophic short occur.
  11. See THIS for options.

  13. You mean the plastic scuff plates under the doors like THIS? 4DR XJs used the same front plates as the MJs. They didn't come in metal from the factory.

    Whoops

Damn straight. Time for some rest mate.
  15. Saw that - cracked me up. It took me a couple of years to find my MJ D44. I found it browsing the classifieds on a now defunct XJ forum advertising an MJ D44 laying in the weeds that the seller originally bought for his XJ, but then found an XJ D44 and decided to use it instead. He wanted $200 for it along with a Honda Passport D44 limited slip carrier he had that would bolt right in. Called the guy and next day took a short drive up to the southern TN boonies to pick it up. I lucked out I know, but they are still out there. Here she is nestled in my bed prior to the drive back home.

    Whoops

That 91 looks like a hella good deal Gog - body looks dayem good. Does it semi run and drive?
  17. Nice job G - I like it. I never thought of using a LHD aux fan when I did mine years ago, I like your setup a lot better. Less work, looks cleaner, and fits better. I'm curious as to why you didn't use the Spal two-speed controller for the additional fan. Mine has been working great and the 2nd fan only comes on at HI speed when stuck in traffic on the hottest summer days. Guessing you went with the external relay setup instead of the Spal controller because of the better current carrying capability?
  18. I know that because I was getting blow-by (oil into my air cleaner) on my 91 when I first got it. Found a tech article online that detailed how to upgrade the CCV system by using the larger 97 and up XJ CCV hoses and metered orifice elbow. Unfortunately this tech article is long gone, but Cruiser's tips should have something on it for your Renix. If he doesn't chime in do a search for "renix ccv system upgrade".
  19. Nope - unfortunately there are no nut strips in an MJ.
  20. No PCV on your 89 MJ. The 4.0 and 2.5 have a Crankcase Ventilation (CCV) system instead. Just keep the inside valve cover and tubing clean and the orifice open to help prevent blow-by. THIS article is for an HO system, but the Renix is similar.
  21. I don't have a Renix, but if I did I would probably replace the O2 sensor if the original is still installed. Use a Mopar or NGK replacement. If you don't know if it's the original or not I'd still replace it, even if there are no apparent emissions problems. How's it running? Does VA have emissions testing?
  22. It is a "feature" in RENIX (87-90) Jeeps. Since RENIX has no OBD or check-engine light a mechanical emissions timer under the dash causes an "Emissions Maintenance" light to come on to remind you to replace the O2 sensor, clean the EGR valve and passages, etc. It serves no purpose other than to turn the light on after a set time period. Your's came on a bit early it appears. I think the dealer might be able to reset the timer, but am not sure. Most folks just pull the bulb or unplug the timer.
  23. Better to find a D44 rear axle from an MJ, it's SUA and an easy bolt-in. An XJ D44 will be SOA and new spring perches will be required. No Jeep models ever came with a D35 front axle. Some Dodge Dakotas and Durangos and maybe others came with D35 front axles, but the WMS distance ( wheel-mounting-surface) will be different than the MJ's.
  24. Yep, that was just an example, there are plenty available if you look past your rape and pillage drama. That was funny though. The trannys are sealed when stored, and you are not even close to an AW4 expert to assess their condition. OP, there are plenty of good usable AW4's available to swap in if you look. It's not a problem, happens every day, in spite of what the doom and gloom people say.
