Convert Rotors from one to two piece
streetjeep2.5 replied to streetjeep2.5's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
went to http://www.partswebsite.com/hendrickmop ... ts&start=1 and they list for 86 4x2 the same knuckle and caliper for an 87 4x2 and for the 86 either one or two piece hub and rotor. Soooo... from this I would ASSUME ;) an 86 two piece from a 4x2 would fit an 87 4x2. If I read it correctly, they did not show a difference in wheel bearings, so maybe at some point in 86 the went from two piece to one piece until returning to a two piece in the 1990's. Doesn't make sense to completely change the whole design but just make a two piece a one piece and keep every thing else unless there was a serious design flaw in the two piece. I will do a bit more research. Again , thinking only of future repair costs. -
Convert Rotors from one to two piece
streetjeep2.5 replied to streetjeep2.5's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Since to change the rotor om my 87 4x2 I have to replace the whole assembly because I have a one piece, if I could do a direct replace with a two piece and not have to change anything else and the price was pretty much the same, if I ever had to replace a rotor again since I plan on keeping this mj until they take my license away when my age is a factor, I would only need to buy a rotor and not the whole assembly. -
86 MJ LB Directionals help
streetjeep2.5 replied to Grant's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've thought of a grant wheel on mine. Does it make the steering wheel sit either closer or further away from the driver than the stock one? Mines an 87 with the BIG center and not the later three spoke. -
Fan Pulley Replacement/Elimination
streetjeep2.5 replied to kro10000's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I do believe doing that would not give you enough bite on either the crank or alternator pulley, and you would get a lot of squeaking/slipping, and if the belt slips at the crank pulley, since it drives all of it, you will have lotsa troubles; overheating, not enough amps, not enough ps pressure, and when the AC kicks in, lotsa slippage at that pulley! Notice how all pulleys, except the idler/tensioner has at least 50% of the pulley being used. You will only have 25% on crank and alternator. Problem. -

Oregon! Everyone live in central Oregon; Bend, Redmond. They get snow and mud, and use no chemical on the roads. Cars last a looooooooong time there. Then, a few hours and your on the coast for the dunes or in the desert of eastern oregon. Quick hop over to Idaho or to northern california or to southern Washington. I vote OREGON. Besides, it needs to change it's government style anyway. Great fishing too! Hey! Start a jeep yard for parts, taking car hauler semi's everywhere and getting all the mj's and xj's that exist and then, anyone that was a hold out and did not come; oh, man, we own all the parts! When I lived there in the 50's and 60's at one time a sign was on the Oregon/Calif border where Oregon basically told people from California we love having you visit, and then go back home! We wanted to keep things inexpensive! We could modify that and put armored MJ's at all roads leading in. -
Hey, Joe. Haven't heard how you be. So, how you be? :???:

Yep. "Shop smart". I start looking for tires about 6 months before I know I will need to buy. Years ago I knew I would need new street tires for my Cherokee 4x2 before winter. Started looking in April or May. June or July Sears had a REALLY good sale on some quality tires with a no interest 6 months pay off, so I bought now and had them mounted in November when the weather was starting to get icy. Taking wheels off and taking them to Sears saved a few bucks also. True on anything. See what you know to be a really good deal on something you know you will soon need, if you can buy at the time, do it.

I have Hercules Ultra Plus P225 75R on mine for three years now, and never a problem with bead slip, etc. The were not that expensive and have been good in rain and when I have to drive in snow they have done just fine. Tread getting low now, so gotta get some new ones soon.

Will they let you bring your 'manche bedside so you can wrench on it? Seriously, though, you are an encouragement to all of us. You are going through this with what appears to be a good attitude, and we who do not have such problems can complain about a headache! Thanks for your being a good example to the rest of us! And, my prayer is as we approach Christmas that what Jesus birth, life, death, and resurrection means for you and all of us will be of great comfort.

Had to drive it Wednesday after they put chemical on the roads! So Thursday (Yesterday) when it was only 28 out, I took it to the car was and washed undercarriage and outside off, parked it with each side facing the sun for about 1/2 hour to get the sun to melt the ice that formed, and went out of my office to wipe each side off. Time to semi park it for the winter

Doesn't have to do with what I did necessarily, but when I pulled the carpet to dry it out and seal the floor pans a few months ago, the spot welded nut for the shoulder harness on the drivers side broke loose. Getting it back in place made me notice the back side of the rocker panels are open, and this allowed me to get hold of the nut and thread a bolt in it to hold in place and fix it. It also means that rocker panel is open to mud getting in there especially when wheeling and having to be in reverse, spinning mud up there, and probably in there. To keep the rocker panel from rusting out, might want to do what you can to hose them out.

Wonder if the getting drunk was part of what he thought would help him deal with his close friends death. Wonder if maybe, as can happen with drinking too much as you noted, your mouth can get the best of you, and someone did the same, his attitude getting the best of him, and he got smacked. We live in a world where lots of evil happens. We do it. Others do it. No excuses for any of us, though. Evil we should not do, but we do evil. We may try to think I am not as evil as others, but evil is evil, like a little bit of poison and a lot of poison is still poison. Affect may be different, but it is still poison. And, that is why we all need to remember the real reason for Christmas and be thankful for it. This kid will now need help dealing not only with what happened in his getting drunk, but missing his best friends funeral. Maybe you can help? Or, maybe you could get someone he knows and trusts that would be good at helping him?

TIMKEN WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY - link fixed!
streetjeep2.5 replied to robfg67's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Anywho, searched around at the website for front rotor/hub assembly for my 87 4x2, and they have Winhere product hubrotor for 16.95, regular 179.00! They claim a 12month, 12,000 mile warranty. Must be dumping them. Made in China. BUT .... anyone have any experience with this company, Winhere????? -

Invaluable Documentation
streetjeep2.5 replied to Grant's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Downloaded and they DO include 87 comanche also. -
Drove it to work, and contemplated what work I will do to it when I hopefully park it most of the time once the snow and ice arrives and MODOT starts dumping chemical on the roads. Lets see: fix an oil leak and the front brakes with new rotors, etc.; order touchup paint and fix all the road chips, other dings, and scratched up tailgate from a summer of driving and hauling; give it a good wax job, and maybe, just maybe, pull the bench seat out and rebuild it. Don't want to go to buckets yet 'cuz both grandkids still like to travel with me at times. Then, in the spring, drive my spiffy lookin' MJ again!

MJ Stock Bumper Towing Capabilities
streetjeep2.5 replied to runner6's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My rear bumper ends were bent in at the brackets and a bit twisted when I bought the truck. Fixed it with a sledgehammer quite easily to where you can hardly notice the bends. Taught me its pretty thin material, and probably not the best for towing anything more than 500 pounds, and maybe nothing once weakened by being bent. 'Course, it's what's between the brackets that matters, and it seems to be made stronger than what is left and right of the brackets. -

Its been a while since I took mine off, but I think my 87 4x2 has what they gave you to fit your 86. :hmm: I am almost positive it has the original front everything. My recollection is from it having the bearing nut like all the old gm stuff that you back off a little and is either a castle nut or has that sheet metal castle cover. -
WHY ARE YOU YELLING!!! MUFFLER TOO LOUD???? :brows:

A Cheromanche!?!? :hmm:

Glad to help, jeepfreak. Life is filled with good and bad things. While some things in like are truly bad, such as physical abuse, etc., and such things need to not exist, very often what we can think "bad" is only that way from our personal perspective because it interferes with what I think is good for me, but later find out it really was not bad, but for my good! :hmm: By it we are "trained." We learn and should grow from it. I can choose to let those things that were bordering on truly "bad", such as seeing my father become an alcoholic which led to a divorce and finally drink himself to death, and this meant in my teenage and young adult years I missed out on having a father as an active part of my life, be my "excuse" for the way I live my life (I am a victim! I have a syndrome!), or understand some of it may have come from him being in WWII and who knows what he experienced because he never talked about it or something else devastating, and without condoning it still forgive him, and learn what not to do as I raised my family. The list of such learning experiences that are great at "disciplining", that is, "training" me for my life can go on and on. Take such things and let them teach you, striving to, using a military slogan, "be the best you can be!" In the mean time, knuckle down and be the best you can be at being, in this order, a son, a student, and a jeepfreak!

Chrysler's New Midsize UNIBODY Pickup for 2011????
streetjeep2.5 replied to comanche09's topic in The Pub
Don't bite thy tongue! That is the problem we have in this USA! Too many do that, and say nothing to those we elected nor vote at the booth, saying "what good will it do" and them complaining about the outcome because they bit their tongue! Obama is too young in inexperience, and by this too much under the influence of those who adopted in the 1960's and 70's the socialist mantra of that generation, to lead this country. He is in over his head. I wonder, in a large part is he being used? -
Hey, freakjeep93: Yes, it is frustrating being in that time of life in between childhood and adulthood. It's a time of switching from thinking and acting like a child to thinking and acting like an adult. The older guys on here have done that, probably some with more success than others. ;) Some have gone through what your dad is trying to do to the best of his ability, not being experienced in this either, but is new to him as it was to us. You will, if you have a family, do the same. :brows: So, keep at it and believe it our not, you may do what I did. When 16 I got into a heated discussion with my mother. She told me I just did not understand. I told her I did! Then, at 23 (after being drafted into the Army, spending a year and a half in Vietnam, returning home, meeting the woman that is still my wife, and holding in my arms our first newborn child and thinking "man! this is for real! It's my responsibility to raise her") wife, baby and I were at my moms house (parent's divorced, dad an alcoholic). I asked if she remembered that conversation. She said, with a gleam in her eye, "yes." I put my arms around my mom (she was 5'1" and a dynamo), and said "I think I'm beginning to understand." She said, hugging me back, "I knew you would." Jeepfreak, all will be ok. Start now with school work to develop a work ethic that will make people want to hire you or want you to do work for them if you start your own business, but never, NEVER put work before family, for it is what serves your family, and others. Welcome to the beginning of adulthood!
