I would assume they're the same, but wait until a more knowledgeable member comments. -
A Copy Of The Parking Brake Recall?
onlyinajeep726 replied to XJs4Ever's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yea, that's what I was thinking... I got this response from Mrs. Melissa. Her tone has shifted a bit since her initial two responses. Not sure if it's just to appease me or if they're actually taking me seriously now due to my persistence and my mention of contacting the NHTSA. Anyway, here is her latest response: -

This wouldn't happen to be the fellow I need to get in touch with about my issue, would it? http://media.chrysler.com/newsrelease.do;jsessionid=C9F940772EFC7479D1FA701CE59E5804?&id=8851&mid=361 I see the term "regulatory affairs" in his bio. No direct contact info, but I figure I can probably decipher his email address based on the nomenclature of the two other emails provided (maybe <matt.liddane@chrysler.com>). -
If your avatar pic is accurate, you don't have flares... haha.

1988 Comanche - First Jeep.
onlyinajeep726 replied to Megadan's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
That vacuum elbow you're holding goes to the heater hose control diaphragm. It opens/closes the hoses that runs to your heater core so you can have heat. If the line is disconnected (like yours) the diaphragm stays open and allows coolant to flow through the heater core all the time. Nothing wrong with that (late model XJ's don't even have the valve). I can take a picture if need be. -
A Copy Of The Parking Brake Recall?

Yes, especially since "Melissa" seems unwilling to help as she said this: So next question is, how the hell do I go above Melissa since she doesn't seem to care enough or didn't listen to my request to speak to someone higher? And what's this crap about "Any future communication related to this issue will be retained in corporate records."? Is that just a way of saying "eff you if you think you can undermine my authority"? This is why I pretty much hate Chrysler. This is my reply: -

Metric Ton Question
onlyinajeep726 replied to Kkilmer87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If 4-speed manual, likely 3.55's. If 5-speed manual, likely 4.10's. If 3-speed auto, likely 4.10's or 4.56's. -

This is why I'm doing this through email so I can keep a record. The NHTSA was my next step if Chrysler is no help. -
A Copy Of The Parking Brake Recall?
onlyinajeep726 replied to XJs4Ever's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I got a reply quicker than I thought. A disappointing one too: I replied with the point about the ZJ's and WJ's gas tank recall and remedy. Also noting that they were past warranty and of age, but Chrysler fixed those under a Safety Recall. I also stated that there is no expiration date for a SR and that if she was unable to help me, then I would like to speak to someone higher that is able to help. Waiting to hear back... Edit - This is what I had wrote back to her in response to the above: -

Here's a page on Jeep's contact us page. http://www.jeep.com/webselfservice/jeep/index.html -
That's probably exactly it. Didn't really take that into account until you mentioned it. My XJ has 15" x 8" steelies with 4.00" backspace. Rubbed like a mofo in turns until some slight trimming and added lift.

I totally agree. Nice looking rig, Don. -
I've got 31's on my XJ with 4.10's , AW4 auto and I6. They turn good with the 4.10's, can even spin them if need be, but I don't since my trans. has 210k miles on it. I was always told that 31's wouldn't fit on a stock XJ without lift or fender trimming. Mine rubbed slightly with 3 inches of lift. How come they fit with no rubbing on an MJ as y'all claim?

Good point. My dad also suggested speaking with Chrysler directly. I suppose I will be emailing them shortly and I will let you and everyone here know what's going on. Thank you for your help and everyone else here so far. -

Worth a try. I figured the worse they can say is no, which is what I'm expecting. Perhaps I'll be pleasantly surprised. However, aside from the 10 year thing, wouldn't they assume responsibility for all issues when buying out another company's product? If they bought and continued the product, then they bought the problems associated. Also, how about the case with the ZJ's and WJ's gas tank exploding in rear end collisions? It was just a few months ago that they put out a TSB/recall about those from '93 onward. That's older than 10 years and yet they're giving and installing trailer hitches on every ZJ and WJ that comes in. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I just don't see how they can legally deny someone a repair based on a defective part that was recalled. Seems that when any company buys out another, they assume all associated problems as well. -

I'd recommend a SOA conversion in the rear (nets about 4.5" lift) and then be sourcing XJ lift components for the front to match. It's one of the cheaper ways of doing it. -

Thank y'all for all the documentation. I'm going to be bringing this to Jeep's attention. Tim, anyway you could scan that in and save it as a pdf for sharing/printing? -
Well, I'd say the more logical thing to do would be a newer, more modern car. However, I'd be a hypocrite since both my '88 XJ and '86 MJ have seen my wallet drain on multiple occasions for their upkeep and overhauls. That probably wasn't much help. Sorry. :laughin:
