I like the water idea.

Does anyone have any experience with this kit? http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=1145043&cc=1179839 RockAuto has it for ~$24. I was going to buy everything separate but at $24 for the tri-pack, you can't beat it. Was just wondering if this would be worth the investment. Brass terminals and new wires are much needed on my XJ.

Aw4 To Replace 2Wd Pukey

While you're there, now is a good time to do the dual diaphragm brake booster upgrade, since you will be switching the pedal assembly anyway. -
Bent Rear Axle
onlyinajeep726 replied to Tactical Bacon's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yea... the D35 is fairly "light" by comparison of any other Jeep axle... When I swapped one out for a C8.25 in my XJ, I picked up the 35 and carried it across my garage, around the side of the garage and put it in the back of the MJ. My wife watching me the whole time amazed that I just picked up something like that. The 8.25... that was a different story haha. -
Seats! Who Has What In Their Mj
onlyinajeep726 replied to farmerjohnson's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I can fit 3, 4, 5, 6+ passengers, but only one is sitting in the cab besides myself lol. It's a pick up for a reason. :rotf: -

It won't last too much longer like that either way. -
AX-15 gear ratios listed in red below: (Reference: <http://www.manoian.net/jeep/gear_ratio_calculator.html> and also Novak) You should also list TF904, AX-4, AX-5 and BA-10/5 and list the engines they're found behind. Also, the reverse gear ratio for the AW-4 automatic is : 2.39 For the gear ratios, I'd like to break it down a bit more... See the red. I also believe that these gear ratios would hold true in the D44 (and AMC-20), since the engine/transmission used would determine the final differential gear ratios, but someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The other side (that my picture doesn't show) goes to the CCV grommet on the front of the valve cover.

This should provide some insight... This is how it's hooked up.

The truly "custom" '86 MJ Custom.
onlyinajeep726 replied to onlyinajeep726's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Been working on the interior a little when time permits... Still haven't found any bucket seats, but when I do, I can wrap up the interior... Anyway, got the painted head liner back in, mocked up and test fitted the XJ overhead console, the B-pillar and A-pillar trim reinstalled and the sunvisors put back up. The overhead console works and fits good other than the temperature display doesn't work. Shows "OC" (as in Open Circuit, probably bad sensor), but the compass does work, or so it seems. I mainly wanted it for storage and a place to install some switches. Anyway, here are some pictures of that... I've put just over 1,000 miles on the old girl in a year...- 80 replies

Window Trim Plastic

If you find out, let me know also! I have the exact same problem. Wonder if we could just burn it off or if that will mess up the chrome underneath... -

I agree with the above... Get the $50 D35 and save for the C8.25 conversion at a later time. -
There is no VSS or speedometer sensor on an '86. It uses a cable. Aftermarket O2 sensor shouldn't cause that either, at least I don't see how. At what RPMs does it idle? The IAC could be malfunctioning. What's the fuel pressure (assuming that little gauge is in fact a pressure gauge)? It should be seeing 14-15 psi. Also, I'm not 100% on this, but that missing hose that runs to the intake manifold is important I believe. I have been told that the engine temp sensor (not the one for the temp gauge) is located in the intake manifold. The computer needs to see what the temperature is so it gets out of "closed loop" mode. In other words, the computer optimizes fuel and air ration once the engine is warmed up, but if it doesn't know when the engine is warmed up, it never optimizes. I hope that makes sense. I don't think just one thing is causing all of your issues. I think it's several things that need addressing. There's a good FSM floating around here that cover all the Renix year Jeeps.

First off, welcome to ComancheClub!! The PO did some ghetto riggin' underneath that hood. I see the newer style aluminum valve cover has been fitted, but the CCV on the front-driverside of the VC has been left disconnected. The heater hose that is supposed to run to the intake manifold is not there and what the hell is up with that multi-junctioned upper radiator hose? lol. Also, I see more butt-connectors on the main harness than I'd like to count and some sort of gauge on the back of the throttle body (I assume to monitor fuel pressure). Perhaps the fuel pressure gauge is an indication that the fuel pump was giving them trouble. May explain why it was/is hard to get up and maintain 50+ MPH. Also, your manual transmission is not made by Renault. It's an AX-4 and depending on what kind of abuse it has seen, may be on it's way out if it gave you trouble on the ride home. But, aside from all that, it seems to be a pretty straight truck and it should be quite a project for you. Looking forward to seeing what all you do with it.

Xj Parking Brake In A Mj?

I thought about that and may end up doing that. It's just that I have two pretty pristine pre-97 consoles already. -
Xj Parking Brake In A Mj?
onlyinajeep726 replied to 87MJTIM's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Sadly, I too think I'm going to take this route. The dealerships likely have no parts and to be honest, I've got some other crap going on in my personal life that I just don't have time to bicker back and forth with Chrysler, and their stealerships to make them do right by the safety recall that is still in affect on my '86. And I was really looking forward to making that section of my center console into cup holders... :fs1: -
91' With Camper - Suspension Upgrade?
onlyinajeep726 replied to Comanche Camper's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have to agree... that's a pretty sweet job you did with the custom camper. I'd like to see how roomy it is inside. By the way, how much did it cost to build? But to add to your question, V8 ZJ coils + a 0.75" spacer and Chevy 2" lowering shackles (gives us 2" lift). As for shocks, get the appropriate Monroe Load-leveler shocks for the rear (P/N: 58638) and the matching Monroe Sensa-tracs for the front. That's what I plan to do for a cheap 2" lift. The nice thing about the Load-levelers is they're ability to auto adjust to the load in the bed of the truck, in your case the camper. -
That's gross haha. But, I'll likely do the same to my '90 XJ that served as a donor for my MJ... I just have a handful of parts I want to get off of it first to use/sell. Other than that, it's going to the scrap yard for whatever cash I can get for the weight of the metal. Probably haul it over in the MJ. Seems like a proper "burial" if you will...

1986 Cummins Mj 4Wd
onlyinajeep726 replied to RavenMocker's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Well, I'm definitely subscribing to this... Never head of the 6at, but a diesel inline six that's small enough to fit in our MJs/XJs is something I'm interested in. What kind of MPG do you think you could get out of this? That's my main thing with a diesel swap if I were to ever do one. Torque and better MPG over octane.
