  1. Did this on the XJ before the Uwharrie trip last month... Sucks big time. Before that, I did it with the engine on a stand, upside down. SOOOOOO much easier. I almost contemplated taking the whole engine out just to replace that damn seal because it pissed me off so bad. The rear is not seated correctly on mine still. Eventually, I'm going to rip the whole drive train out and fix every leak on that b*#!$ while it's out.
  2. Yeah she's a pittie. Her name is Pepper Ann. Totally different. '86 has a lever off the passenger side of the latch that you press. On my other Jeeps you just move the latch directly. The rear drive shaft for the '86 model is big and bulky. The front is tiny and weak looking. The hood latches are entirely different and will not interchange. But that's it? if so I'm keeping it as a spare. None of it will interchange directly to your '88 because the drivetrains are complete different between the 2.5L/AX4 and 4.0L/BA10. The rear drive shaft can be shortened to work on your '88 in the event you ever need to use it. The front drive shaft is too short to use on the '88. But that black interior is uncommon and will directly swap. The bed will and other mutual items between the two should swap.
  3. Can't the EGR just be eliminated and a blockoff plate installed in its place?

  5. For anyone needing to know the A/C refrigerant type and capacities, here you go. Information is a screen shot from a website that complied the data from Alldata and other automotive guides.
  6. Man, you're killing me... I'm freaking jealous lol. You're doing an excellent job though, especially with the picture documentation. Glad to see it's coming along.
  7. That's what they all say at first, hahahaha. :wavey:
  8. When I said that, I wasn't thinking about the solid window of the '97+... '96- is a direct fit.
  9. I'm just being a smarty pants haha.
  10. Go to your local junkyard and find the latest model XJ you can find. That's your best bet.
  11. I second this. Definitely improved MPG and running issues with my '88 XJ.
  12. One MJ and one XJ, had two XJ's one point. Also have two parts XJ's if that counts... We can't all be Jim hahaha.
  13. It's nice but for 15.5K, he can keep it. Especially with that weak looking trac-bar they got on there.
  14. I'm assuming this is the '88 Comanche you have listed in your sig? Tighten the manifold bolts. It's a SAE 9/16th or 14mm wrench. May not be it, but I guarantee if it's never been done, you'll have a handful of loose bolts. It causes a huge vacuum leak.
  15. What's with you and double posts today? Hahaha. I hope you can figure this out because my XJ does something similar to this. It's only after it's been running for a long time that it idles smooth with little variation.
  16. Outlaw, you're on CC now!! I saw on CF that you picked this baby up the other day. Welcome! Lots of good information and good folks here.
  17. Who called it? :waving: http://comancheclub.com/topic/43378-88-barely-running-no-power-popping-backfiringcant-figure-it-out/?p=440825
  18. If you plan to retain the closed system, get the Volvo pressure bottle cap. The stock one and any stock-like replacement is junk. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/volvo-coolant-tank-cap-xj-613128/
  19. If you find an extra pair, let me know. I'd like some for mine being that mine's an '86 Custom.
  20. Dude!! You're on CC, awesome!! And you used my picture haha! Message me sometime and stop by. I don't mind helping a fellow Jeeper, especially an MJ'er!
  21. That thread on Pirate is hilarious. What an a**hat.
  22. Well, I should have noted in my initial post that I have a guy who normally only works on Volvos exclusively, and he has a vacuum system. He just fixed my dad's A/C in his '90 Volvo. We inquired about doing so on my MJ and since I'm having him do all this, I just wanted to be fully prepared when I get ready to bring it over to him. So, vacuuming the system is also the way to discover leaks in the system? I was going to get some UV dye to put in as well to find potential leaks.
  23. I'm going off what I read on the interwebz, which I wouldn't presume as factual haha. I'm a complete virgin when it comes to how the A/C stuff works. Anyway, so from what you've said, I need to find a third can of R-12. That would be the simpler solution to this, huh? I guess I'll take the time to replace the last few O-rings that I neglected previously.
