  1. Here's what I think... Make it more clear that the SB is not a search. Make it to where new members that have say, under 50 thread posts, can not even post on the SB until they've made the required amount of posts. Figured that way, they've been to the site enough to know it's not for searching. Should pop up a message if they attempt to make a "shout" informing them of its correct usage and why they're unable to post in it yet. Personally, I like the SB and use it enough to justify its stay on the site.
  2. I agree... crawl under it and look for rust. In addition, looks for major fluid leaks, oil and what not. If it looks too clean (like it's been washed recently), then that might be a tell-all sign they're trying to hide something. Also, to upload a picture, go to tinypic.com and upload it there. If you can't figure out how to post it up on this thread, just copy and paste the link to said picture to this thread instead. Someone will post it up or a mod can go back and edit your post. Also, welcome to the forum! Lots of good info and people here.
  3. It is certainly nice as well. :D
  4. Yes, December's MJ is very nice indeed.
  5. I know the question was directed at the OP, but I've done swaps using both. The XJ got the '96 booster with spacer and the MJ got the WJ booster with a few stacked washers to space it out a bit from the firewall. Both required the firewall lip to be "worked" on a bit lol. I'm curious to know what year/model booster he used as well.
  6. Yea, I did a lot of work to make it work. Before I tackled this project, I had never done something this involved in fab work. I learned a lot. As far as swapping out the 2.8 being similar to swapping out a 2.5... yes, swapping the actual engine and doing all the fab work would be the same. You'll have some added steps like swapping in a electric fuel pump and some harness stuff. I don't know what else, but I'm sure another member will chime in who has experience removing that 2.8 junk. This is another good, viable option. Coupled with some sort of EFI, it would be a really good option.
  7. Easier and safer solution is to unbolt booster and put a quarter inch spacer between it and the firewall, or stack washers. That's what I did when I did the WJ booster swap. What year and model did you pull your booster from?
  8. Look for a ECU from an '89 or '90. The harness, fuse panel, etc. are all be the same between the Renix stuff. Only differences will be between manual and automatic transmissions. Read through this: http://www.cherokeeforum.com/f88/who-wants-more-power-out-their-87-88-a-191718/
  9. This should help some. http://comancheclub.com/topic/39539-links-for-25l-to-40l-swap/ Here's my build thread starting from when I decided to figure out how to stuff a 4.0 into my '86: http://www.cherokeeforum.com/f46/86-comanche-dd-159524/index4/#post2542580
  10. Wonder if I could sell it haha... For being light duty and mounted incorrectly to the frame rails, it was pretty sturdy. It's been tugged on a few times for recovery and I've pulled a few trailers with it.
  11. Check fuel pump relay and fuseable links at the starter relay. Other than that, someone else will have to chime in.
  12. Oh, I should've read the title more closely... You've got the 2.5L. Those don't have the resistor ballast, IIRC. At least not in '86 anyway. Um... Perhaps the fuel pump itself is starting to, or now has, die(d). That's what happened to me on my '86 when I still had a 2.5L in the old girl.
  13. Check the fuel pump ballast. It's located here (white thing in center with the two orange wires on either side): Jump the two wires and see if it'll run after that's been done. If that doesn't work, report back.
  14. Well, there goes another stock rear bumper... Mine's banged up too, but not from getting pulled. PO backed into something or someone hit him. Glad to see you're starting a build thread though. When are you going to pop in a 4.0? lol
  15. Link to the original source? I'd like to know where they got these numbers. I'm a bit confused about the 1985 numbers considering there were no 1985 MJ's. I know that the '86s would've been built in '85, but they still would've been '86 models. The '92 models, if that number is accurate, really are as rare as they say.
  16. Been some awesome trucks featured this year, especially February's... ;)
  17. Thanks man! If you need any help, feel free to ask. I can go through and post more pictures and/or take more.
  18. Yea, if you don't mind, that would be cool.
  19. I was not aware of that. Thanks for clarifying. Do you happen to have a picture of a 2WD drive shaft?
  20. Yes, you will have to. Swap the drivetrain and then measure the length of the drive shaft needed, take your current one to Fleetpride or another reputable shop and have them cut it down.
  21. What was the point in "Comfort" mode if no one uses it anyway? lol
  22. AW4 was the only automatic transmission used behind the 4.0 in the MJ/XJ platform.
  23. Wouldn't advocate its use by anyone other than a professional, but my dad used hydrochloric acid (HCl) to remove oil from the concrete parking pad that my XJ liked to piss oil all over. It worked, but I don't know if that's legal or particularly safe haha.
  24. Yes, the 4.0 will fit in the '86 engine bay with a slight massaging of the fire wall and you'll have to do some fab work to fit the radiator. The AX4/5 won't bolt to a 4.0, so your only reliable option is an AX15 (or NV3550) if you want to keep it a manual. I know these hit mostly on 2.5L to 4.0L swaps, but there should be some relevant info here: http://comancheclub.com/topic/39539-links-for-25l-to-40l-swap/ Also, here is my build thread when I started my swap. I've got some pretty good pictures and details on how I fit the 4.0 radiator in the '86 model. It's not a challenging as you would think. I had never done something of this magnitude until I took on this project. I drive my MJ almost every day. http://www.cherokeeforum.com/f46/86-comanche-dd-159524/index4/#post2542580
  25. Well... there's your problem. :smart: I'd love to see your face once you get that stroker up and running... Gonna be a huge difference when you butt-dyno it haha. :wavey:
