We had wild hedgehogs in Europe, although I've only ever seen one that was not captive. As far as I know the spikes do not fall out after they stick you like the quills on a porcupine. Also, do not feed it milk. They love to drink milk, but they are lactose intolerant.

Looking at becoming a Comanche owner
mvusse replied to 87Warrior's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Supposedly in 91/92 D44s were found with no apparent reason other than that's what was left sitting on the shelf. No towing package, no MT package. -
Not if you want to keep it a 2wd. A 4wd transmission is designed to be bolted up to a transfer case, and can not accept a drive shaft. Conversely, a 2wd transmission can not be bolted to a transfer case.

School sucks? Tell my 12 year old that. 5 day weekend last week because of snow days. School Monday and Tuesday. And now in the middle of another 5 day weekend because of another 3 consecutive snow days. I may have to remind her that all the extra snow days will postpone summer vacation because they have to be made up.

$1.71, Cherokee is full, Comanche is feeling neglected cuz I don't feel like sweeping all the snow off to drive it.

1-2" Lift and upgrade to new shocks. Advice?
mvusse replied to phenryiv1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I walked into the store an hour before closing Friday night, as they are not normally busy at that time and asked if I could leaf through the paper shock master catalog. It lists all shocks with their compressed length, extended length and type of mounts top and bottom. -
Oh the memories.... I had that song on my "ultimate party tape", right in between Beastie Boys and David Lee Roth. I think I had "rubber ducky" on it as well.

:clapping: I have that linked on my Facebook page. Someone emailed it to me a couple weeks ago. I was shocked that it's a group of 12 year olds... HOLY $#!& I'm not a Steelers fan, but that is awesome for a bunch of 6th graders.

yeah, Florida has some cool looking big @$$ oak trees. Some aread of Bulow State park near Ormond Beach reminded me of Middle Earth (Lord of the Rings). The Fairchild Oak is truly impressive. http://funandsun.com/parks/BulowCreek/bulowcreek.html

If you disconnect the front sway bar, you can articulate the front axle a lot more.

The piece of 1/4" plywood was bowed *badly*, because of that the part where the blade was cutting was up off the table an inch or so. When I was almost the whole way through the last 1/2" or so broke, causing the two halves to fall down and pinch the blade. So it immediately went from moving forward at whatever speed I was feeding it to moving back toward me at around 200 mph. Yes, I knew better, but still.... At least I still have all 10 fingers. I have damaged a few, but never permanently. I intend to retire with all 10 still intact.

Whats the Biggest XJ MJ spring Out there???
mvusse replied to Pollockzrodz's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I hope you realize before you lift it that much you need to think long and hard what you are going to do to the drive line to make the drive shafts work. That is going to be a way steep angle (especially on the front) for the u-joints to operate at. -
If they are XJ springs with XJ instructions they won't apply as MJ springs are longer. A leaf long enough to fit directly under the main leaf of an XJ will fit lower down on an MJ. The add-a-leaf will go below the next longest one and above the next shortest one (unless there is no shorter leaf), with the possible exceptiong being the overload leaf. The main part of the leaf pack should be stacked with the longest on top, the shortest on the bottom and as Pete pointed out, the overload always on the very bottom below the rest of them.
-
It will work temporarily. The springs will still be in the same location relative to the frame, but the shock mount will be above the springs instead of below, so with that set up a shorter shock should be needed. If you don't flex the rear suspension too much and don't carry too much weight you should be okay. If not you would bottom out the shocks, damaging them in the process. And 8.25 spring perches should probably be used only on an 8.25. Those axles have 3" tubes, as opposed to 2.75" for a D44 and 2 5/8" for a D35. The axle tube cut-out in the perch will be the wrong diameter for other axles.
-
I guess you *could*. I personally wouldn't trust it, though. When it comes to suspension and keeping my rear axle where it belongs (underneath the car and preferably running side to side) I don't like to take chances. That includes a (mostly) flat item being held tight against a round tube with the same bolts that hold said axle tube to your springs.
-
For lifts I like Motion Offroad. Superb customer service, good quality products (both their own brand and others they carry) and one of very few companies that produce MJ specific rear lift springs. They are not cheap, but you get what you pay for. I have heard that RE is also quite good. No personal experience, but have heard from quite a few people on here to stay far far away from Rusty's.

Transfer case ID tag is fairly obvious and almost certainly says New Process 231. They were all that was available in Comanches 87 up, although I'm sure a few people have swapped in a 242 from a Selec-Trac Cherokee.
-
I think I got it now. I will probably weld new perches on, but keep the old ones on the axle as well. Then run square U-bolts over the spring through the shock mount plate and original spring plate, trimming off any excess U-bolt length almost flush with the nut since they will be pointy end down. Final functionality should be the same as your set up, just implemented a bit differently.

Yes, the 4.0 was available in 87 and is a very good engine, nearly indestructible. I remember a few posts on here a long time ago on floor boards. I believe they were meant for an XJ, but fit MJs with minor modifications. I'll see if I can find it. As far as transmission options, the 4.0 came with either the Aisin Warner AW4 automatic, Aisin AX15 5 speed stick (good) or Peugeot BA10/5 (bad). Since the AX15 did not appear until mid 1989, you most likely have the Peugeot. Then again, after 21 years, some parts may not be stock any more.

So the plate with the shock mount sits directly on (under) the original perches and you're using 4 regular (grade 8?) bolts, right?

After adding on to the shop a few times and moving the table saw around I have tested the structural integrity of 3 walls and a (cheap) door. All failed. i also used a 10hp shaper to test another wall. Threw a 3/4"x2"x24" piece of oak through 5/8" drywall, 5.5" cellulose insulation, through 20 gauge metal siding, and about 50' across the lawn before hitting the ground. Really glad I was not standing in the line of fire. My last table saw shot about 6 weeks ago tested my pain threshold throwing a piece of 1/4" plywood into my nether regions. Also caused a 7" bruise on my thigh.

I say cut the bottom edge off, but like ^ said, do it to a rusted one.
