Need to know what rear eand & front end I got???
mvusse replied to Shane's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
They most likely did not include U bolts because the different axles have different diameter tubes. Automotive parts stores usually carry U bolts. I'm lucky to have a shop just down the road that does work on semi truck brake systems, but also does hydraulic tubing, carry a bunch of bearings and will custom bend any U bolt I need for less than most places sell them. They also have spring centering bolts by the 5 gallon bucket and universal shock mounts. -

Unlike the HO the Renix control system doesn't store any information. Each start is a reboot from scratch and it takes a few cranks for it to run through diagnostics.

Grey buckets to black buckets?

What a TV show displays or uses means nothing. Extreme 4x4 as well as Trucks when they are working on Jeeps are always "Rusty's this" and "Rusty's that". Rusty's Off road supplies the shows with free or severely discounted parts, in return for the advertising of having their product mentioned on air. And it works. I have seen numerous newbies here who come to the site with "I'm going to installing a Rusty's lift kit", or "What all is involved in installing Rusty's high steering set up". When you just watch the TV shows you don't hear about the quality problems with their parts or their horrible customer service when you're trying to get something fixed or repaired under warranty. -
With an 87 sender, you need a gauge from a 84 through 90 Cherokee, or 86 through 90 Comanche. Conversely, you can keep the gauge and find a sender from an 91/92 Comanche, but that would be more difficult to find. I have yet to sit down with a Cherokee sending unit to see if it is feasible or even possible to make it work in a Comanche. Yes I know they are mirror image. And no I have never looked at one in person in 3D yet.

:agree: People who like Hershey's have never tasted Dutch or Belgian chocolate. People who say Dutch or Belgian chocolate is the best have never had German chocolate, and people who say German chocolate is the best out there have never had Swiss chocolate. And compared to Swiss chocolate (especially Lindt), Hershey's is not even chocolate. In the Netherlands (translated into English), we call chocolate "chocolate". We call crap like Hershey's "cocoa fantasy". Dang! Now I'm hungry for...

I need to learn to read. I didn't catch on that he was talking about the trans instead of axles.

There's really only just one junk yard in the vicinity that let's you go into the yard to pull your own stuff, but they're not as cheap as they once were. When I'm ready I'll call them and see what they'd want for one. There's also a pick-n-pull near Columbus I'd like to check out some time. If both of those turn out to be too expensive I might pm you on where these yards are.

Not American or Canadian, but currently live in Ohio and lived in Canada (SW Ontario) for 6 years before that.

Yes, technically the cab will be warmer as there will be a hot heater core under your dash, enclosed in ducting. No, I could not notice the difference. And I have no AC.

I forgot about the calliper holding the disc in place. However, my main problem is that I do and probably always will drive my rig down to play, and then have to drive it home. If I do break a shaft, but it's not a C clip axle, I could technically limp home on it. If it's C clip I *have* to replace it before I can go home. I might carry spare shafts with me at some point, but need to save up money for other stuff first. But if you feel it's pretty much impossible to break an 8.8 shaft running a locker and 33s, which will probably be the final set up, then I guess it doesn't matter. And discs out back would be nice. Rear axle is not going to be replaced right away, but it possibly could later this year. Current upgrade is an Aussie in the front (should arrive tomorrow and hopefully go in this weekend) and a welder (160A, needs 220V 30A outlet I still have to install) to build rear bumper and rocker guards.

???? My 3/8 drive 3" extension fits fine in the square hole on both my D30s as well as the D35 in the MJ. Xj has an 8.25 with rubber plug so it doesn't apply there.

perfectly alright :D and while we're there, maybe I can fire up a generator and plasma cut the dents off your truck for souveniers :clapping: jk man. lookin good. you ever get the center caps? Don't go crazy with the cutter, but yeah I wouldn't mind losing the bottom edge behind the rear wheels. After or while I make my new rear bumper I was going to take a cutting blade on my grinder to them. Then the bumper will wrap around like your (are planning to) doing. And no, the center caps never arrived yet. So you did actually send them? You have a tracking number? Cheers!

Most people supposedly get 6-6.5". Some as much as 8. With sagging springs you might get 4.5" over stock height, but that would still be 6-6.5" over what you had before the lift. If you will be using the same springs you have now, place one of the perches you will be using on top of the axle, beside the U bolts, then measure from the top of that perch to the bottom of the spring pack (bottom side of overload spring). The actual amount of lift above where the truck is sitting now is affected by the thickness of your spring pack, the diameter of the axle tubes and the spring perches you will be using.

I guess I'll stay away from an 8.8 then. By the time I spend the money on C clip eliminators I might as well get an XJ or MJ D44.

Hey, I'm still jealous of your truck. And you got a Detroit out back, don't you? You probably have more money tied up in parts for your long arm set up than that Aussie cost me... I'm thinking of possibly joining you guys at Badlands in June, if that's okay. Not a member on that board (yet?).

Is this the lil round plate your talking about?? Image Not Found Yup. So how much do those things go for? The little plate? I can't imagine anyone wanting more than $0.50 for one. :D

The Ford 8.8 is a popular upgrade for Comanches and Cherokees, but I do have a question: Do they use C clips? Or basically, what does the wheel do if an axle snaps?
-
Front. Rear is not getting anything until it grows up and turns into a D44, or possibly 8.8.

You don't need a lift to fit 30s.

Aussie should be here Wednesday!

Problem with the higher compression ratio and supercharger is exactly that: too high a compression ratio. If you up the air pressure at the intake to pump more air into the engine, you end up with a higher air pressure in the combustion chamber and as a result a hotter combustion chamber leading to detonation. There are a number of ways to help alleviate the problem, including running higher octane gasoline (more $ every time you fill up), lower compression ratio to, retarding the spark timing (somewhat effective), and a popular one among twin turbo Supra owners: water injection. Squirting water into the combustion along with the fuel to retard combustion is very effective and will not decrease your power. But if you run out of water you will have instant detonation. The one guy I know this happened to (former next door neighbor) destroyed 4 of his 6 pistons within the span of a fraction of a second. Ended up junking the car cause the engine was not rebuildable. Stock it was 320hp, boosted to 500+ by upping boost of the turbos. Anyway, sorry for going off on a tangent. If you insist on supercharging a higher compression engine, water injection is not safe because of the above mentioned problem. So you're left with limiting the pressure, running higher octane gasoline and retarding spark. What octane gasoline you're willing to afford is a personal question, and tuning the amount of boost and timing depend on that.

Welcome to the addiction, and you got a pretty good deal. I paid $100 more with a wrecked front end from a deer at 55mph.

Don't have it any more, but I had a Suburban with a 241 in it, and it definitely looked larger than a 231. About the same size as a 242.
