That a Ranger bed though...
-
Ugh, I really need to get out of this state. Not a single one around me unless I want just a rusted out shell anymore. I would love that tailgate and turbines, but that rear bumper is something I really need. Any chance you'd be willing to pull that and ship it? I had an 85lb Gladiator rear bumper shipped to me and it wasn't too bad. A smaller, lighter MJ bumper can't be any worse. Won't need the brackets since I have a LWB.

I believe he was asking if you salvaged the deer.

:hmm: Incorrect info listed. Photoshop image of a Commander. Poor grammar and such. What kind of article is that?

You can't nab some from scrap yards? Won't work. Those are for 4dr XJ's. You would need some for a 2dr and even then they may not work if they bolt up like stock flares. The 2dr Bushwacker Cutout flares work on the 2dr XJ and MJ's because you cut the body on both vehicles to fit the new flare, so in the end the wheel well opening is the same shape and size. Stock, they are very different.

Looks awesome. Want to do mine now for a real challenge (two-tone paint)? :brows:

$13000 Comanche On Autotrader...
GirsMJ86 replied to H3RESQ's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
Clean looking, a lot of stuff done to it. Those wheels gotta go, glad to see the factory ones come with. But the buckets being yanked out for a bench ruin it, especially being an Eliminator. No matter what though totally not worth 13k, even if it truly is the original owner. -
Could look at JK flares? Some of the FSJ guys have used them on their rigs (using only rear flares at all four corners IIRC). Once again though I don't think they would fit very well and are going to require a lot of trimming. Wrangler flares really only look good on other rigs if the body is already trimmed IMO (the red XJ as an example doesn't look too bad because of excessive trimming). The red one also looks like it might have used a total of 6 rear flares and no fronts to get the overall look to be closer to fitting the XJ shape. I would think if you were willing to get fancy with them, taking 8 rear flares would look decent if you only used the end that hung down longer and molded them together where you made the cuts line up flush.

Not sure if they had the longitudinal motor mount locations or not. If I had to guess I'd doubt it, but I'll see what I can find out. When I was talking about grabbing a newer 90's 2.8L from a friends rolled Sonoma for my last '86 MJ, a mechanic pal of mine said that it wouldn't really net me much since it was the same block design. Only thing I would have gained was the TBI fuel injection if I swapped it all over which added about 10-20hp. He said the Sonoma/S-10 never received the updated Gen 2 with aluminum heads and such.
-
From what I've gathered, it would be the Gen 2 blocks from '87-'89. It was only made for transverse mounted, FWD vehicles though. In '89 the displacement was bumped up to 3.1L and the 2.8 was officially dropped for '90. The 2.8L that was used in RWD vehicles beyond these years still used the Gen 1 block and heads.

I saw this YEARS ago. Such a waste.

http://comancheclub.com/topic/1903-91-eliminator-4x4/?p=18233 Now you have. 1991 Eliminator 4x4, only came in SWB. If I still had the thing I'd take pics to compare how it mounted up.

What about the 20 miles of vacuum line on that shoddy little engine? Or should we just list the engine itself as something that needs "fixed"? lol So glad all mine was already done before I got this thing, and half of it was removed since it no longer has a carb. Of course nothing else on the thing was taken care of so the worst part about an '86 is actually the thing that's in the best shape on mine.

Shows how they are connected and such.

Darn, I don't have any like that. Just scuffed up old one with the black painted back on behind the letters.
-
Like the entire thing painted over or just the background behind the letters?

What I was saying about adding the brackets to a hitch that you could bolt hooks or bolt-on shackles to would be as simple as adding onto the side of the receiver brackets the "L" that holds the hooks on those Rusty's front tow hook brackets. Would allow you to have two hooks/shackles in the rear and an empty receiver at the same time for something else rather than using one of those shackle receiver adapters. As an example: 1985 Chevy K-10 rear receiver: How you could modify it to add hook mounting points similar to what Rusty's did with the front brackets (red is what is added): Would be even easier if the hitch was custom made so it would be an actual extension of the receiver bracket just bent over and up then welded along the back that comes flush with the side of the bracket.
-
Well first off it should say. Like that link you posted clearly says "Front Mount Receiver". Also explains why it says it will fit the XJ and MJ. If it was a rear end one it will only fit one or the other since the rear ends are very different.
-
That's a front hitch. Only thing you'll be able to "slap right on" from another vehicle will be another MJ. Nothing else will have the exact same frame width or same bolt up locations. Hitches are extremely simple in design though, make one up yourself if you can or take your rig to a fabrication shop and tell them what you want. Should be relatively cheap. A friend offered to make me one for my Gladiator for only the cost of materials and a pack of cold ones.
-
The Rusty's kit is basically an exact copy of the factory XJ/MJ tow hook brackets that go up front. They bolt to holes that are already there on the frame, the same ones the bumper brackets bolt to and one further back. The shackle add-ons then bolt onto those rather than using the hooks. For the rear, an off road bumper or hitch is your best bet. If I wasn't grabbing an off road rear bumper I would have some brackets similar to those front ones made that bolt onto where the rear bumper does then taking it a step further if you wanted a hitch (since rear hitches are getting hard to come by), you could have a shop make one and the brackets of it could be made similar to those front brackets so you would have some place to bolt up hooks or shackles. Hope that makes sense.

Shorten Turning Circle On Comanche?
GirsMJ86 replied to johnj92131's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Make it four wheel steer? Honestly not sure what you could do since no matter what you're going to run into the tires hitting something and might only be able to gain an inch max by going to small tires. I know when I even just had 31" tires on my SWB '91 I had to put longer bolts in the turn stops because at full turn they would rub. Turning radius didn't bother me though since it was still smaller than my other vehicle at the time, an '86 K10 long bed. If you really want a shorted turning radius, get a YJ ot TJ since not even a SWB MJ is small. Maybe someone else will chime in if I'm mistaken. -
87 Comanche Sacramento Area $950
GirsMJ86 replied to johnj92131's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
:hmm: I don't believe I said there was anything wrong with a column shift. Not my personal preference but all I did was mention that it was one since nothing is listed about the truck and I noticed the handle in the window. -
http://comancheclub.com/topic/14360-suggested-towingrecovery-rules-of-the-forum/ http://www.rustysoffroad.com/vehicle-recovery-equipment/jeep-hitches-winch-mounts-tow-hooks/rustys-tow-hook-kit-xj.html http://www.rustysoffroad.com/vehicle-recovery-equipment/tow-straps-shackles-fairleads-more/recovery-shackles-d-rings/rustys-bolt-on-shackle.html Going to need the tow hook brackets and the bolt-on shackles are a must IMO since straps slip off hooks. Of course this is assuming you have factory bumpers, if you have off road ones then you hopefully opted to have shackle mounts added on. Since my chrome bumpers are not in the best of shape, I plan on getting JCR bumpers and will be having the shackle mounts and receivers both front and rear so I can move a winch to where I need it.

A Real Survivor ... Take A Look At This!
GirsMJ86 replied to NHMJXJ's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
Can't believe no one has mentioned the fact that it has power locks and windows. Awesome little truck, no way would I pay how much he probably wants though.
