If Pete could front up $462,100 a year for the site... I think his MJs would be a little shinier (and all of them would move).

just triple checking...

You're good to go. -
Newer throttle body on 89 4.0?
Geonovast replied to JeepNewb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes, but the intake ports won't line up properly. It will still function, and there are adapters out there for the sensors, but you might loose a few ponies. Also, the HO manifold doesn't have the hole for the EGR tube, so that will have to be properly blocked off and disabled. -
Newer throttle body on 89 4.0?

Can't be done. Renix TBs mount with 3 bolts, HO ones mount with 4. -
Hard to believe those numbers when they claimed they destroyed three imaginary vehicles. Wouldn't surprise me if a good number of those were XJs that got marked as MJs. Still, one of the stupidest and most wasteful things ever done.

Are you pushing down on the release key just behind the cylinder?
-
I've got one in damn near that condition, with a near brand new tire on it.
-
If that's a 35, it is one skewed-@$$ picture.
-
Am I the only one that sees the possibly 4.10 factory MJ 44?
-
Clearly a Renix under the hood. There is no way the last MJ would have been made in 12-92. If MJs were continued that long, it would have been a 93 model year.

Rob will do it for ya

I would verify your gauge is correct before doing something else. Could be air in the system. Try burping it.

You're forgetting that lower rpm =/= better mileage. Even a 4.0 is not gonna want to do 1910 rpm at 80 mph. Sure, it most likely will, but your gas mileage is gonna tank. Many people have seen improvements taking the 3.07 axles out of a 4.0/5 speed and replacing them with 3.55.

Intermittent steering creak?

Identical. -
If it's the 6 speed from the TJ, it's not a double overdrive trans. It's got a grannied first, 5th is 1:1 and 6th is overdrive.

Show them a stock rear driveshaft for a 4wd YJ. It's like a foot long. Cutting an MJ's driveshaft down by 11 inches, even starting at a 4wd swb, would put it in the XJ length range. They obviously have no clue what they're talking about, just using it as an excuse.
-
Certainly a distinct possibility at this point.

Yes, 2.5 uses a timing chain. These are not regular maintenance items on our motors like they are on some cars with belts. It's not necessary to change them every 50k or so. Unless your specifically know you need a new one, or are redoing everything else on the motor anyway, it's not worth the trouble. The worst part about changing it is getting everything to seal correctly when putting the timing cover back on. Also, if the chain feels loose(say, you notice it takes way too long for the dizzy to turn when turning the motor by hand), on a 2.5 it could easily be the tensioner.

Have you tried one of these?

I initially read this as "Just a tip when it comes to MJ collectables. They should come to my place, or Pete M's."

Best cnadidate donor for 4X4 swap

First off, holy red squiggly lines Batman. A swb MJ wheelbase is approximately one foot longer than an XJ's. There are no "compatible" XJ rear driveshafts for an MJ. Fronts, yes. XJs and MJs used the same front driveshafts in regards to engine/trans combination. 93 and up is what you look for when searching for an external slave cylinder with the AX-15. AX-15 started mid-year in 1989. In 92 it got a larger input shaft tip for the pilot bearing, but AFAIK, there's no other differences. Also, the NP 242 was never a factory option behind an AX-15. If you find an AX-15 with an NP 242 on it, someone swapped it. The NP 231 has been noted as marginally stronger off-road than the 242, as well as having less parts to fail. However, if you find a 242, I recommend getting it, as the Full Time 4wd is a nice option. Every bit of info about the AX-15 is moot, however, since he stated he has a 2.5, and while getting an AX-15 behind a 2.5 is possible, it is incredibly difficult and requires rare parts, so not worth it unless you have a habit of burning up AX-4/5s. No, he has a 2.5 with an automatic, which could easily indicate 4.56:1 gearing. 2.5/5 speed XJs came with 4.10:1 gears, as did 2.5/5 speed MJs. 4.0/5 speed combination got the 3.07:1. 1. He's currently 2wd, doesn't have a D30. 2. You cannot simply swap the gears and have the new gear ratio. Setting up gears is expensive if you have it done, and is a very meticulous and precise procedure that the average mechanic cannot do or would not attempt without training. "Probably" has a Chrysler 8.25 if it's new enough. Yes, the 8.25 is stronger than the D35, but it will still require perches to be welded. The D35 was also an option through 01, so it's still possible for it to be a D35. XJs are SOA, but the perch width is different. Bolting an XJ rear axle directly onto MJ springs is dangerous. It's strenuous on the springs and could cause them to fail. Also, going SOA on an MJ nets you at least 5 inches above your current height. 2 inch spacers up front would not even begin to level it out... especially considering the MJ has a rake to begin with(The back is supposed to be a tad higher) -
If you have spark, your CPS is good. (Well, good enough to turn on the injectors anyway.) I would check to make sure that all the ground wires going from the injectors are good and grounded properly.

I was up at 7:30 and it about killed me. Now I'm sitting in school waiting for class to start.
