  1. Starter has absolutely nothing to do with shutdown or running. It's used for startup.. Fan clutch could be a good bet. I would start it up, let it warm up, pop the hood, and have someone shut it off while you listen for the noise in the engine bay.
  2. Now I have never completed the 4wd swap, but I thought you have to drill 4 holes for the linkage plate to bolt to the side of the tunnel? You do, but the way you worded it implied that you would need to actually cut a hole big enough for a shifter, not spend 20 seconds with a drill bit. :dunno:

  6. Also, the 207 and 231 are not quite the same length. When I went 4wd in my 2.5, I had the 2wd cut down for the AX-(was 4 but became 5) and 207 combo, ended up about 3/4"ish shorter than it should have been, and it would up being the perfect length when I swapped in the 231.

  9. The low range isn't that much higher, I believe it's 2.62 or 2.61 vs the 231's 2.72. I ran a 207 for about a year, and it was really noisy, it also wasn't too fond of going back into 2wd.
  10. Makes sense. The R154 is the Toyota cousin to the AX-15, and the W/G series 5 speeds are pretty similar to the AX-5.
  11. There's no different in input shaft lengths. 89-91 AX-15s have the smaller input shaft tip, 92+ has the larger. YJ/TJ 4wd units have the holes for the T-case drilled differently for clocking. Obviously 2wd and 4wd units are different. YJ/TJ units use a different shifter, and AFAIK, the internal shift arm is also specific to the shifter, so you can't, say, use an XJ/MJ shifter in a YJ/TJ trans and vice versa, but I've vet to personally confirm it. Speedo sender isn't really an issue as they're all swappable. There's no real difference between external and internal slave transmissions other than the bearing retainer and bellhousing, which will all interchange.
  12. Actually, it could be timing related. The 2.5 uses a tensioner on the timing chain, and that could have failed, causing an sudden timing problem.

  14. The 2.5 NEVER had a 4-3-2-1 firing order. I do not know of ANY 4 cylinder that has the firing order. The internals of the engine make that firing order impossible. The 2.5's firing order is 1-3-4-2, regardless of year. It should even be cast into the manifold itself, so you can check when installing wires.

  16. After you get one, don't fret too much about installing it, if you hadn't noticed, the 4 holes that need to be drilled to mount it are dimpled in the tunnel.
  17. Corrupt video driver. Safe mode uses a generic driver, which will run pretty much anything in a low resolution, but if it tries to load the card's actual driver during a normal startup, and it's corrupt, it won't boot. Find the newest driver for that card, install it in safe mode, and hopefully that will fix it.
  18. Pretty much, yeah. Worst part is bleeding the calipers, because chances are you're changing brake generations. Nothing fancy to it at all. All XJ/MJ/ZJ/TJ Dana 30s are interchangeable. If you don't have any stubborn bolts you should be done in a couple hours.

  20. Disconnect the linkage from the case, and see if it will shift fine with a wrench.
  21. The NP 242 doesn't have the vacuum fittings for the CAD, so it can't control it. Also, because of the way the NP 242 functions while in Full Time 4wd, a CAD failure could grenade the case. It doesn't cost anything to permanently lock your CAD. You don't have to do anything fancy like replace your axle or get do a one-piece shaft conversion, although it would be a good idea down the road. viewtopic.php?f=9&t=18415
  22. Not in my company truck ;) but I rarely get to go that far east. I never really get to head out your way either, but my wife's sister lives in KC, and we're gonna try to get out to visit her once before we move back to WI around June.
