  1. You're gonna have to supply a synopsis for us with non-youtube friendly internet connections.

  3. I've seen aftermarket part websites that listed parts for 84-93 Comanches, or I really love the front suspension part ones that list for 87-96 or something stupid like that.
  4. You can use the shock plates with SOA, but I understand it takes a little modification to get it to work correctly. And "Pete" would be the creator, owner, operator, and head administrator of this here forum.
  5. Good to know. I used to play with those oh-so-reliable Supras back in the day, but back then I had very little knowledge of, well, anything.
  6. The perches on the axle need to be moved. Pete's got a diagram showing the stock locations of the perches XJ vs. MJ. The XJ shock mounts can just be hacked off and forgotten. The MJ uses shock plates that the U-bolts bolt through, instead of just the spring plate that the XJ has.
  7. The only front axle available in the XJ/MJ was the Dana 30
  8. I remember seeing a long, long time ago a post where a guy rigged up a hand throttle that was a bar that ran from the pedal along the tranny hump, to another bar that pivoted next to the 4wd shifter and had a handle on it. The search function is being less than helpful. Anyone remember that thread and might have it bookmarked?
  9. I don't think the AW-4 was used in anything other than Jeeps. You can pull a 44 out of any MJ and it'll bolt right in, or an XJ is the same axle, but the spring perches will need to be moved. There's no concern. DON'T do it.
  10. Sounds like you need a gear with about 3/4 as many teeth as the one you have now. But I may be wrong. I know there was a chart somewhere, but I think it was for a 231, which uses a different set of gears.
  11. I'm selling my 2wd AX-15 to a local member here for $100... but he's getting the trans, bell, slave, renix flywheel, whatever extra clutch parts I had sitting around, and the driveshaft....
  12. Really the only thing the 231 has over the 242 is when you're considering harder wheeling, the 231 has less parts to break.
  13. If you want just a "little more power", gearing is the first way to go. What do you have now? After that, the next step would be higher flowing exhaust, bored out throttle body, bigger injectors(which you'll need for a stroker) Then hit up the stroker. It's a nice, nice power upgrade, since except for some of the internals of the engine, the rest of the truck is still basically stock. I will be (eventually) building two strokers. One for my 4.0 MJ, and one for my current XJ. Really all that sucks about the stroker is I would not put it in front of a BA 10/5 or D35. You'll blow those up pretty quick. A V8 swap is a bit extreme unless you really, really want a V8. Plus, you'll need A LOT more than just the motor itself. P.S. It would help a lot if you put the basic specs of your truck in your signature; year, swb or lwb, motor, transmission, axles, any mods you have already
  14. I've used just a can of brakleen and a wire brush on a drill on a couple transmissions and T-cases.
  15. I'd be surprised if ANY government vehicle gets better than 14 mpg. A good portion of them are limos or suburbans, or limo suburbans, and they of course have an extra thousand pounds of armor to them. Maybe the government should have skipped the CFC program and switch to armored Honduhs.
  16. The one in my J10 was identical to a soup can... and I believe it was factory..
  17. Yeah... the first few are always really exciting. The first one I remember ever seeing was driving toward us, I was like 12, and I saw the grill coming at us. I thought "Oh cool! another Cherokee" Then it turned, and my brain went to:"HOLY CRAP ITS A COMANCHE FOLLOW THEM FOLLOW THEM I WANNA SEE IT" Although, I can't say I think much differently nowadays..
  18. The Renix system does not listen to the O2 sensor unless it's warmed up. Is there any change between when it's cold and when it's at operating temp? Also.. I wouldn't cause an idle between 600 and 1100 a problem unless it affects it while you're trying to drive. It's probably just a sticking IAC.
  19. I've never bought one, but to clean it, it'll cost you a can of O2 sensor safe throttle body cleaner, which usually run about 4 bucks. Pop the throttle body off, spray it, scrub it all down with an old toothbrush, wipe it out and throw it back on. Probably be a good idea to pull the IAC out to clean it up.
  20. I'm not dressing up, but my daughter is... 13 week old baby in a costume... soo much candy for me :D
  21. You can clean/change an IAC in no time at all.
  22. Do you get any sort of clunking if you go straight from accelerating to braking?
  23. My first two XJs had a habit of dying when you'd put in the clutch. It wasn't a CPS problem, they just had bad IACs.
  24. You can either grab one off a junkyard XJ/MJ or most parts stores will be able to get you a new one for around 60-70 bucks.
  25. No. Firewall between 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder is the same. What you've read is about the differences in the firewall in 84-86 XJs and 86 MJs. The 4.0 wasn't introduced until 87, and the 6 popper they used in 84-86 XJs and 86 MJs was a shotty 2.8L V6. The only firewall issue is dumping a 4.0 into an 86, which can be done, you just have to spend a few minutes with the firewall and a BFH.
