Electric Fan Power Wire ?
Geonovast replied to SuperWade2's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If nobody beats me to it, I'll snap a pic in the morning of what it should look like. -
Electric Fan Power Wire ?
Geonovast replied to SuperWade2's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Should be a couple inches above the lower radiator hose. I don't see it in the pic. Did you convert to an open system? The 91+ rads don't have that sensor, since the computer controls the fan. -
Electric Fan Power Wire ?

Is the coolant sensor in the radiator plugged in? I believe that's what controls the fan. -
Name that Tune in "x" Notes? (Audio of Engine!)
Geonovast replied to SuperWade2's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It's just one piston. You've got 5 more. Have you had the pan off at all? If you yank the pan you should at least be able to figure out if it's a bad rod/wrist pin/whatever else. -
86 hood release cable swap
Geonovast replied to jmderyke's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I believe the handles themselves are identical 84-96. 97-01 may be the same, I don't remember. -
I'm sure they mean suspension lift.

Engine swap Question Renex to HO
Geonovast replied to XXLMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Did you mean D30? You can probably find a 3.55 D30 for much less than paying to have the 3.07 one re-geared. -
I'll be coming back to WI on the 16th, and staying until the 25th. I'd like to get the transmission swapped in the 4.0 MJ that weekend. Mainly so I don't have to lug the 4wd tranny down there, and the 2wd one back up. I know Brent won't be able to help much, but hopefully he'll still come out to watch. The only problem I forsee is getting the old broken bolts out of the framerail. Whoever had the trans out last decided to weld the crossmember to the frame. I don't know how many of the 4 bolts are broken, hopefully it's just one, and that's why it's not bolted in. Jake, Rob, you guys still up for coming out?

Engine swap Question Renex to HO
Geonovast replied to XXLMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Oh, definitely find a 3.55 D30 then. Paying to have gears swapped makes no sense. It'll be 1/100th the price to move perches around. -

I stand corrected. My bad. -
Engine swap Question Renex to HO
Geonovast replied to XXLMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The problems with getting a 5 speed for your 4wd donor lies in gearing, however. Right now with a 4.0/auto you have 3.55 in the rear axle. 4.0/5 speed has 3.07m which are crap gears. If you get a manual for your donor, you'll either need to find a 3.55 Dana 30(recommended), or set up the XJ rear 3.07 axle for your MJ. -
Engine swap Question Renex to HO

Yup. 90 = AX-15 = awesomeness. Why do you want to keep the auto? -
What about a 4.3 instead of 5.0?
Geonovast replied to streetjeep2.5's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
if it's a carb'd 2.5, it's not in a comanche. Read his sig. He's got an 85 XJ. -
Engine swap Question Renex to HO
Geonovast replied to XXLMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Are you really in need for a 4wd swap? Or just the motor. A renix 4.0 in front of a manual will be a direct drop in in front of an auto. All you have to do is put your flexplate on in place of the flywheel, and pop the pilot bearing out of the crank. A manual swap isn't that hard to do, but you'll need a longer rear driveshaft if you do it. Also, what year is the Renix XJ? If it's an 87, 88, or early 89, that transmission isn't worth anything more than a paperweight. -

What's a little wiring when you already gotta find a new transmission, possibly axles, and fab up motor mounts? -
wheel stud knurl interference question
Geonovast replied to A-man930's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've never heard of people breaking wheel studs while driving, wheeling, or otherwise. I'd just pound in some new stockers and call it a day. If you somehow manage to break one, which I doubt you will, then I'd worry about upgrading. -
If you never ask that question, you'll never know the answer, and you'll be a much, much happier person.

Engine swap Question Renex to HO
Geonovast replied to XXLMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Sounds like you've got exactly what you need. Get the HO XJ, and swap everything over to your MJ. Easiest way is to completely gut the MJ, move all the wiring, cooling system, vacuum, etc. over from the XJ. Make the MJ look exactly like the XJ did. This includes all the wiring behind the dash. It's a bit of work, but it's worth it. There are plenty of threads and people on here who have done this exact swap. -
D35 wasn't a C-clip axle until 1991. You have to pull all the brake stuff off, there's a plate holding the wheel bearing in. Pull the 4 nuts holding that off, and then you should be able to yank the shaft out. As for "just replacing the ring and pinion" You don't just take those out and bolt new ones in. They have do be shimmed, and set up properly, which if you don't know how to do yourself, it can cost upward of almost a thousand dollars to have done. Go get yourself an XJ D35 and have new perches burned on. Shouldn't run you more than $100 for everything that way. I'm sure someone near you has a d35 they want out of their hair.

IIRC, At stock height they had issues with the front driveshaft hitting stuff. -

IIRC 2wd beams were a unit bearing from 84-86, then went to spindles, and didn't go back to unit bearings until after 96. I believe the unit bearing 2wd beams use the same brake parts as 4wd. The only difference is there's a dummy stub shaft in the unit bearing instead of an actul axle shaft. Nope, almost quite the opposite. XJs and MJs used a HP D30 from 84-99. In 00 and 01, the XJ received the LP D30. ALL YJs, TJs, ZJs, and WJs got LP D30s.
