MJ#2 build w/leafs...NEW PICS
Drahcir495 replied to jeepaholic's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I love your first truck. Being a CJ guy, I can't understand why anyone would want to go to front leaf spring :dunno: . We were always trying for shackle reversals & BDS coil kits. My MJ drives a heck of a lot better than any of my CJ's. Not being an arse at all, :hmm: but what are the benefits? -
Hands down the buckets!

Alright :beerhead: pictures! Is that a Dodge rear bumper on there? Looks good - Rich

:dunno: what? The oil filter . . . why? Because of their high rate of failing. Just do a simple "fram" search, you'll see.. To many people have had bad things happen because of that low end filter. Read somewhere here that our engines are a carbon engine, meaning they don't burn up alot of the carbon when combustion happens. All that crap gets circulated through your engine, the only defense is the oil filter. Fram is a crap filter.. I run NAPA Gold or Puralator on all my engines.. >>>JUST SEE FOR YOURSELF<<< here's a good writeup too... http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilters/index.html But it has the non-slip grip - it has to be good  . Now all that fancy jockeying for space, creative hose routing, and good old fashion Jeep engineering and all you guys could say is "ooh look at that Frame filter :shake:. - Nice write-up and thanks for the heads up! I am going to Napa today and picking up their Gold filter. Thanks again guys

:dunno: what? The oil filter . . . why?

Yep, I got ya. I adjusted (bent) the metal bracket stop when I was in there the last time. I believe it just bent back to the original non-working position. I will try yours and Pete' suggestion and take a little off the hook  .

  :clapping: I can't imagine working on the Comanche outside in the snow  . Insane - Rich

I used the same overflow bottle from Napa that Chico used on his project here -> viewtopic.php?f=7&t=10762&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=15 . And Just like Chico’s, “the nipple on the bottom of the plastic overflow tank that I put by the air filter didn't even have a hole in it” and I had to drill mine out too. I had to remove the air box to mark and drill the holes for the new bottle. -> I had to move and extend a few wires to make room for the tank. I was also not able to use one of the clips that secure the top of the air cleaner box, so I just removed it. I started the return line from the bottle and snaked it around the bolts underneath the air box -> Se can see the new location of the emissions pieces in this picture. I trimmed a few of the vacuum line to clean it up and get it back into place. I then ran it by the clutch reservoir -> and long the back firewall -> And finally connected it to the Macs aluminum over flow tank -> I also put on the relay cover I picked up some time ago at the P&P to finish it all up ->

No, I have not  . Makes perfect sence - thank you!

What is the deal with these :fs1: 'n things. I can't get it to work. I used a piece of wire and steel sleeve for a temp fix -> It works but just looks Jerry Rigged. Any one else come up with an ideal to get them to work properly? Thanks, Rich
-
I have tweak and tightened the tilt mechanisms a few times to get them to work properly. Today I finally had enough of trying to no avail, to get behind my seats :fs1: . I grabbed some wire and a metal sleeve and made a handle, so I can manually override the %$@*&$# tilt lever. -> Installed -> I am going to use this as a temporary fix until I can come up with something better. It will probably end up being the only fix  . It works great.

Sorry to hear that :fs1: , but did it have to be in Florida :shake: . I hope you catch the idiot. Keep us posted.

Welcome to the club  . Great looking original MJ you have there. I would just get the factory door seal from a newer XJ - they are a better design and a few of us on here have had awesome results with them. On the rear bumper: It is a shame you can't get a factory replacement, they really look good. I would suggest a better built after market bumper. JCR, Detours, Tomken, and my favorite PROTOFAB  . Actually, IIRC $500MJ (CC member) has a real nice custom bumper for just a little more than the one you are looking at. I would start looking through the rest of the MJ project threads on here. It is amazing what some of the members have accomplished. Great back story on the MJ and glad to have you here - Rich

Do you know who made ...
Drahcir495 replied to xj_dummy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
They used to be in the Quadratec Essential for Jeep Cherokee catalog. I think the company was Smitty Built and they sold the side peices too. -
Wow, you got a lot done on one page ;) . Too bad about the original hood and fender  . The PO obviously was not a member of CC, or he would have read the "what to do if you hood latch breaks" sticky. MJ looks great and love the black interior  .

Ooooh, stocking stuffers  . Merry Christmas everyone
-
I agree 100% - but with this designed you would be able to place jerry cans and supplies back there. Thank you CW. The bumper is more than I could have hoped for. Protofab did an amazing job designing this bumper. I just need to get on Mike's arse about completing the rock rails :brows: . Merry Christmas everyone :typing: !

I like the rims! Bigger meats on them and they will be perfect. Truck looks great
