Rusty Jeep Posted February 3, 2021 Author Posted February 3, 2021 I've got a 350 that makes around 300hp. so i'm thinking nv4500 will be the best rout to take.
89 MJ Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 My dad has an NV3550 (maybe 3500) in his 5.3 YJ on 35s. Its beat on and has held up.
Rusty Jeep Posted February 3, 2021 Author Posted February 3, 2021 I don't think the nv3500 will work with a 350 from 1974 unless i'm wrong.

You can find factory parts to bolt them up easily. The 4.3 V6 came with a 3500 and uses the same bellhousing. Get a standard flywheel for the 350 (may be the same as the 4.3) and the right clutch parts and it all goes together easily.
Rusty Jeep Posted February 3, 2021 Author Posted February 3, 2021 I'm still a little hesitant that the 3500 will be strong enough.
derf Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 Then run a 4500. Plenty of them in full size Chevy pickups starting in around 1993 or so.
89 MJ Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 Are you going to beat on your truck? My dads YJ with 35s, a 340 hp 5.3, and an NV3500 has done several burnouts and donuts on the pavement with no breakage. I think you’ll be fine. The 3500 came in half ton trucks too.
Rusty Jeep Posted February 4, 2021 Author Posted February 4, 2021 I want to be able stick the pedal to the floor with blowing the transmission. Is that transmission in your dads YJ stock internals or is it built.

Pete M Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 the 4500 is a giant heavy beast that has a granny first and is not much fun to shift.
Rusty Jeep Posted February 11, 2021 Author Posted February 11, 2021 Does anyone know if the gm power steering lines will screw right into the factory steering box?
Rusty Jeep Posted February 21, 2021 Author Posted February 21, 2021 Is there any reason a 1999 explorer axle won't work in a comanche?

Mine screwed right into the factory mj box. Not sure what the line came from but it also fit the s10 box on my dads Truck
Rusty Jeep Posted February 25, 2021 Author Posted February 25, 2021 What gears would you get in the 8.8 with the nv3500?
MiNi Beast Posted February 25, 2021 Posted February 25, 2021 saginaw boxes should be same, and 8.8 with 4.56s.
MiNi Beast Posted February 25, 2021 Posted February 25, 2021 Just now, MiNi Beast said: saginaw boxes should be same, and 8.8 with 4.56s. or you mean came factory... .8.8 i found with 3.73s to 4 10s, to 4.56s and can be had with lsd as well, but may need a fresh clutch disc pak installed.

I would choose 3.73, but 4.10 wouldn't over rev it with an overdrive. Really depends on tire size, and I don't think I saw that anywhere.
Rusty Jeep Posted March 10, 2021 Author Posted March 10, 2021 Does anyone make the sbc motor mounts for the comanche other than novak. Having a pretty tight budget I'm wondering if there is any cheaper options.
Rusty Jeep Posted May 6, 2021 Author Posted May 6, 2021 I have a 350 in front of an nv3500. I know there is two different size flywheels. I don't know what will work best.
ghetdjc320 Posted May 7, 2021 Posted May 7, 2021 This thread is further proof of what @Pete M and others have said before: there is no such thing as a cheap v8 swap.
