CGCWO Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 I’ve been missing in action for a while. Some my remember my 89 2wd Slow Build, that’s the one that got away when someone offered me stupid money for it. Well I am back in the MJ world. Picked up an all original body and interior 87 4.0 4x4 auto short bed today. Well at least I have the title and keys. Will be picking it up Saturday. Planning a DD build with a few extras. Truck runs pretty well, needs some love on the interior and paint. I am pretty sure I’ll be doing both floor pans and will need some seat mounts. Body is really straight and seems to be solid except for the floor pans. Electrical is in need of some TLC. Maybe some one can tell me how rare the factory/OEM tilt steering column is?
fiatslug87 Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 Welcome back. How about some pictures and please add it to the registry.
CGCWO Posted December 25, 2020 Author Posted December 25, 2020 Will be bringing it home Saturday so this pic will have to do for now.
jdog Posted December 25, 2020 Posted December 25, 2020 Welcome back, factory tilt column for a floor shift/manual is the same as a cherokee. A bit harder to find if a column shift. Does not look bad, be sure to add it to the registry and we will get a build sheet. Ps your grill looks upside down

Ps your grill looks upside down Yep I noticed the grill being upside down also. Column shift auto with tilt. Pretty sure it’s a true Pioneer trim. I’ll get it in the registry.
CGCWO Posted December 28, 2020 Author Posted December 28, 2020 Well got most of the interior out and not surprised, time for new floor-pans. This one is a little worse than the 89 I did a few years ago. Good news is I haven’t found any other rust through only surface rust. Also having issues with getting it to start without starter fluid. Have begun cruisers list and cleaning all the electrical connections. Will have to fabricate new seat mounts as two pulled out of the floor and one of them had to be cut off.
Jesse J Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 It's stuff like this that makes me grateful for getting a utah truck

CGCWO Posted January 1, 2021 Author Posted January 1, 2021 Pretty sure the poorly sealing vent window are the Marjorie culprit along with the need for new windshield and door gaskets.
CGCWO Posted January 3, 2021 Author Posted January 3, 2021 Brown Santa came a little late but new floor pans are here. Also bought an 86 XLS that will give up most of its interior to the 87.
CGCWO Posted January 5, 2021 Author Posted January 5, 2021 Floor pans and seat mounting bolts done. No photos: 1. I am not a welder, 2. Most of you have seen this done before. Will get updated picks when I get it all sealed up and floor painted. this is something I hope to never have to do again, what a royal pain in the a$$.

CGCWO Posted January 5, 2021 Author Posted January 5, 2021 If you must have pics here is one that will help with the builds. These came in the mail today!

CGCWO Posted January 5, 2021 Author Posted January 5, 2021 These should come in a lot more handy than the Haines I used while doing my 89 several years ago.
MiNi Beast Posted January 5, 2021 Posted January 5, 2021 yes yes they will. in fact you have a link to them i think i need to add a set to my book shelf.
Pete M Posted January 5, 2021 Posted January 5, 2021 they are all over ebay. there's a link to the digital version of the 89 shop manual (the first chrysler redo and best written of the renix years) in the link in my signature.
CGCWO Posted January 5, 2021 Author Posted January 5, 2021 Got them off Rock Auto. There were a little cheaper than the ones I’ve seen on eBay.
