Anyone have a picture of where the other end of the connector for the hood light comes out of? I can’t find mine and if I knew where in the wiring harness the other end comes out of, I could get it working  ->

The Jeep did come with one but was missing. The cut outs for it was in the under hood padding. Oh yeah; 1990 XJ! Thanks for the help.

Comes up next to the reservoir bottle- Renix. Runs into a wire harness near the relays.

Cool! I now know what a wire is that's loose. Lol. My truck doesn't have the light unfortunately.

Is this wire always hot. How would I add an aftermarket light under hood.

Wire is always hot. You could but it would need to work the same way that the factory hood lights worked.

The factory light has a weighted switch (mercury?) that closes when the hood is opened.  The light turns on.  When the hood closes, the switch opens = light off.

You will have find a similar type light, or include a manual on/off switch.

I’ll need to look for one. Anyone have a spare they don’t need??

Oh man, I just gave away my other one to an mj owner. I will keep a lookout for one though.

thanks everyone for the location. I still can’t find it but I know where to look :beerchug:

The '90 and up light and harness are different, both power and ground are provided by the harness. I'm sure you can make your light work by only connecting the red wire from the harness.

Mine is an 89. I will look for the wire when I am giving it a once over today prepping for my Pismo beach trip next weekend.  Is it hot ready to go or do I  need to add a fuse to the panel.

That light broke on my 89 XJ.  I wrangled with it a few times and gave up.

I much prefer the GM style manual retractable light.  Manual retracting and manual switch.

There are several variations on this light.  The best setup use a solid retaining tab for the light (some have a relief that makes them prone to breaking off), extra mounting holes, and stronger retaining tabs for the clear lens.

I agree, I love mine. I also have one of these lights. The cable is so long you can walk clear around the truck.
