Nice Adam-man.

Score !!

The lower dash piece has a hole from a switch that one of the PO's installed , which is a shame because it has no cracks whatsoever .

Bummer. But that could be plugged with the correct size plastic plug, si? But I can sure understand if you don't want to break the set up. I wouldn't if I were you.............

You way overpaid for all that stuff Adam. It's just pieces of plastic! I could help you get rid of it, since I'm sure you're so embarrassed to have paid so much for plastic :D

You couldn't be convinced to part with that cluster, could you?

The cluster will be going in my red truck because it has the tach and the one in it doesn't . The one currently in it will get taken out and I'd consider selling it , but it may be a while before I do the swap as I need to find a drivers door panel ( or 2 carpeted ones) a passenger seatbelt, headliner and would prefer buckets and a full console ( which like a dummy I sold last year ) .

I know you're joking , but I feel it's worth what I paid .

He is joking, you done well, black interior stuff is sooooo hard to come by, what I'd give for that black dash..... roadtrip half way across the country for it if I had too. PM me if you have issues with the vin #s on the dash. Whatever you do, suggest you do not drill the rivets out of the old dash. Seriously.

Here's possibly a dash for you ...

I won't mess with the vin at all , I know better . The local highway patrol barracks will take care of the vin plate for me . Thanks for the advice .

How do they do that? I think in my state it would be the Department of Motor Vehicles, not the State Police, but I'm curious as to how different jurisdictions handle it.

My local highway patrol barracks does inspections on salvage or rebuilt vehicles , been there many times when I worked at the local body shop . Being I have the title with the VIN from my truck and the receipt for the interior with the VIN written on it from the JY showing it's not stolen , they'll just swap the plate over . We had to do this on vehicles that the dashes were ruined from airbags and or accidents .

So the state police will drill out the old vin (your good one) and then drill out and replace on your new dash with new rosette rivets?

No muss no fuss? And if you take the dash to them, how do they know you puttin it back on the right truck?

I hate to ask but,,,,why not? :???: , I pulled a dash from the JY months ago and did this. I just riveted the new VIN plate to the replacement dash.

It's technically illegal in most places.  You probably shouldn't admit you did that.

IMHO, who cares, no ill intent in doing it.  Make sure you use the right rivets and it looks good...

Here if you replace the driver's door, dash, frame, and any other VIN tagged location (firewall and core support in our application) on a vehicle, you're supposed to get the local insurance/licensing monopoly involved, and they will inspect it and typically issue an entirely new VIN and lighten your wallet in the process.  Which makes no sense, so nobody does that.  Most of the vehicles I buy are old (and junk) and I find at least one missing VIN or mismatch, and I haven't gone to jail yet, nor has the sky fallen on me.

Understood, I figured if the officer is savvy enough he or she can look at the other  VIN's to verify since they're all there and original. For once I'm actually surprised other places have "stricter laws" than California,,, you can't even buy a good gas powered pressure washer if it's not CARB approved :shake:

I replaced the dash on the diesel with one from a Cherokee. I gently put a thin flathead screwdriver under the edge of the tag, and the rivets popped out like undoing a button. Same for the old VIN, and putting the diesel VIN into the Cherokee dash. Just snapped in and out like a button.
