JeepsOLot Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 I went to look at the new Jeeps at Wallace Jeep in Stuart, FL. I just so happened to drive the Eliminator that day. The salesman that was with me noted the Eliminator and said that the dealership still has a Comanche that they use for power washing cars on the lot. Today, I had time to investigate, and we found it behind the service area. Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found It has the 4.0, floor shift AW4, 4WD, factory buckets and console, and factory rear slider. Doesn't look too bad. Going to talk to the service manager to see if they want to sell it. Doesn't look like it's been moved in a while, judging by the tree. Can anyone guess the year? I think the floor shifter and those buckets (different then my 88 Eliminator) are possible clues. Thanks! Jerry
JeepsOLot Posted July 6, 2016 Author Posted July 6, 2016 Can someone delete the multiple posts? The damn phone glitches, and I didn't think it posted. Thanks, Jerry
fiatslug87 Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Not sure of the year but it has a 10 slot grill so maybe '87? Also looks like an old radio and I thought those head rests were in XJs only?
JeepsOLot Posted July 6, 2016 Author Posted July 6, 2016 I'll get the VIN tomorrow, should be able to track it down from there.
yellaheep Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 It's got a GM ignition so I'm guessing '87-'90? Pretty cool find!
JeepsOLot Posted July 6, 2016 Author Posted July 6, 2016 If it'still that old, why does it have a floor shift auto? I thought, up to a certain year, they were all column shift. Jerry
Minuit Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 I'm pretty sure you could always get automatic on the floor, but you had to option it up quite a bit. Seen a couple 86s with automatics on the floor. Very uncommon though. Here's an 86 brochure that lists a floor shift auto as an option.
Akula69 Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Funny. That exact radio and those bucket seats were in my daughter's first Jeep - a '92 XJ. I suppose they could have swapped in whatever parts the dealership may have had on hand? I'd ask about any records they might have.
mikekaz1 Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Judging by the column and wheel. Id bank it at 88-90. Gm cylinder with the round jeep horn with the allen heads.
JeepsOLot Posted July 10, 2016 Author Posted July 10, 2016 Well, got more pics yesterday. Thought this was interesting a D44 under a shortbox: Image Not Found And the buckets are from a four door XJ, no flip lever on the seat back: Image Not Found It indeed is 4WD, here'so the front axle: Image Not Found As for ID-ing the year, here is the grille and no emblems on the tailgate. DirtyComanche Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 You should have taken a picture of the VIN. But yeah, interesting truck. Certainly worth pursuing.
JeepsOLot Posted July 10, 2016 Author Posted July 10, 2016 With the tree and the trash on the driver side windshield of the truck, I couldn't get to the VIN. I think it'll be worth getting, just what I've seen. It has 136,819.8 on the clock. Jerry
Fernando87mj Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 My shortbox , also has a factory d44 with trac lok , maybe you'll get lucky and that one will have it ? Maybe ? Judging from the gauges it appears to be a late 87 or maybe even a 88 , my 87 has the early Amc blue face gauges
Strokermjcomanche Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 Instead of running the VIN you can look at the emissions sticker on the firewall and that will tell you the year , unless someone has gone through the trouble of swapping the sticker out which is very unlikely .

But I do understand that they can be painted over or removed . I'd put money that the one on that truck is readable .
