drase Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 http://comancheclub.com/topic/15078-valve-cover-gasket-problem/ http://comancheclub.com/topic/12404-valve-cover-vacuum-orifice-gaskets/ I did as the above two threads are about. I did not know about these 4 gaskets inside the valve cover when I was cleaning it today. Neither thread state the part # for them. Does anyone know the part # for this triangle gasket? I would rather buy the part then put RTV in it.
Jeep Driver Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Cleanliness is godliness. Ultra Black sticks to CLEAN parts and you'll play hell getting them apart. RVT the screws too and they'll not come out. Screw the gaskets. Image Not Found
Eagle Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 The factory parts manual doesn't list a separate gasket for the vent towers.
drase Posted March 23, 2015 Author Posted March 23, 2015 So no one in the Comanche universe knows the part #? I even looked at the Cherokee forums and they don't either! Thats crazy no one knows it, its like a mystery part. Here's my second problem: There are no metal grommets on the valve cover. Previous owners must have taken them off. Also the rubber grommets are destroyed and the Fel-Pro replacement gasket I got has no grommets at all in it. It is the felt one, not the blue plastic looking one. The instructions say to use RTV. Just called Jeep dealer and he can find no part #s for the metal and rubber grommets. So, anyone know the part #s for the metal AND rubber grommets for the valve cover? Sizes of them? Or where to get them at?
cruiser54 Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Hmmm. What are you trying to seal that makes any difference anyway? Cruiser’s Valve Cover ModMost early and even later Renix 4.0s could be bothered by excessive oil in the air cleaner box. A fix from my old days as Service Manager at a Jeep dealership follows. Information was provided to me from a buddy at JeepTech during those days. I don’t believe it ever came out in a Technical Service Bulletin. Remove the valve cover and turn it over. Next, remove the fluted tubes that are now facing you by removing three screws on each. Chop 1 inch off each of them. Then, about a half inch up from the area where you just sawed them off, drill a half inch hole in the tubes so the holes will face the rear of the valve cover. Clean and de-burr/sand all rough edges nicely, clean with solvent, and reinstall. Don’t be concerned about the chintzy gaskets that will probably crumble into oblivion when you remove the fluted tubes. They can go back together without gaskets.
drase Posted March 23, 2015 Author Posted March 23, 2015 THANKS FOR NOT ANSWERING THE QUESTION! If someone can actually answer this question: If I get this valve cover http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/felpro-valve-cover-gasket-set-vs-50522-t/15780775-P?zoneAssigned=1&prefZC=33884#fragment-3 Do I still need to buy these metal and rubber grommits? http://www.quadratec.com/products/51309_0102.htm http://www.quadratec.com/products/51309_0101.htm
HOrnbrod Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 WHICH VALVE COVER ARE YOU USING?? THE STOCK ALUMINUM ONE? IF SO, NO METAL WASHERS/GROMMETS ARE USED WITH THE GASKET. THE METAL WASHERS ARE USED FOR THE STAMPED STEEL 96 AND UP COVERS. USE THE BLUE FEL-PRO GASKET. http://comancheclub.com/topic/21984-valve-cover-gasket/?hl=fel-pro&do=findComment&comment=230859

Do I need to buy replacement rubber grommets for the valve cover if I use the blue Fel Pro? The previous rubber ones had decayed.
HOrnbrod Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 For the gasket all you need is the Fel-pro VS50522T. If you are referring to the rubber "donuts" on the top of the cover, someone else will have to respond - I just know the HO type donuts.
drase Posted March 23, 2015 Author Posted March 23, 2015 Yes, referring to these: http://www.quadratec.com/products/51309_0101.htm

This is what I could find with a short search. Now stop being an @$$. We're trying to help you.
Eagle Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 So no one in the Comanche universe knows the part #? I even looked at the Cherokee forums and they don't either! Thats crazy no one knows it, its like a mystery part. The factory parts manual does not have a part number for those. That means that THERE IS NO PART NUMBER for us to know. Just called Jeep dealer and he can find no part #s for the metal and rubber grommets. So, anyone know the part #s for the metal AND rubber grommets for the valve cover? Sizes of them? Or where to get them at? What part of THERE IS NO PART NUMBER don't you understand?

You have (according to your signature) an '87 MJ with the 4.0L engine. Do you see the '87 4.0L engine listed with those parts?

Strokermjcomanche Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Go get yourself a sheet of gasket paper and make your own gaskets if you're concerned about them . Felpro makes all types of gasket material .
cruiser54 Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 See Tip 22 in my link for the valve cover grommets/harnesses. I don't need see how pics of the harnesses answers my question. I don't need harnesses and does not show or address thr rubber grommets around the valve cover. There is a reason why you have trouble seeing things. Has something to do with where your head is.

Hence, the link to those parts. At this point, I really could give three $#!&s if this ungrateful a$$hole ever gets his piece of $#!& fixed.
drase Posted March 24, 2015 Author Posted March 24, 2015 Wow, all the years on here and never seen so much hate. Thx Hornbrod, for your help. Cruiser54 f@ck off. I found the right grommets online and ordered them b4 this thread went to $#!&.
outlaw star Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Cruiser has been around a long time and worked on countless models of AMC, Jeep and Chrysler vehicles/engines. He IS the Go-To Guy when sourcing components and repairs. Not being a @$$ but I call it like I see it. You really need to humble up especially when he pointed you in the right direction and spoon fed you EVERYTHING you needed to do this anal retentive "repair" yet you insist its not good enough somehow.
drase Posted March 24, 2015 Author Posted March 24, 2015 In case anyone is needing the 4.0L grommets also, Quadratec has them on back order until end of next week. Morris 4x4 only had 2 in stock but placed a drop ship order from their warehouse in GA and will go out tomorrow. My local stores (Napa, Advanced) did not have any grommets in stock either. FYI: Quadratec owns Acme Jeep Parts, Savannah Jones & Super Truck Essentials and they all ship from the same warehouse. I know this because I placed order at Acme, called and cancelled once it showed on backorder. If anything is out of stock on one of these sites they all are.
Rockfrog Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 You can get the CCV elbow grommets at damn near any parts store. They are labelled as PCV grommets for a Ford on the package, but they are the same size for the aluminum and steel HO Valve covers. For Renix ... They are part of the Vacuum assemblies. As previously mentioned. As for rubber/steel Valve cover retainer grommets, they are only used on the steel valve cover used from 97 to 06 on the 4.0l Steel 97-06 Aluminum (this one is 87-90, 91-95 mounts the same but uses 1/4 turn CCV grommets with a flat round rubber gasket)
