91Pioneer
iPhone 5S is what I have, a big upgrade over a 4. Put it in a Lifeproof or Otterbox case.

gogmorgo
Durability is what you seek? Go with a Sonim. The Bolt SL 1520 I'm using right now is basically indestructible. 50 foot drops onto concrete have barely scuffed it. Fully waterproof, 4G, and push-to-talk on top of that. It laughs at Otterboxes. It eats Nokia's for breakfast, and stirs the acid from their batteries into its coffee with the shards of their bones. Guinness certified as the world's toughest phone: It'll play music all day at work for a few days without killing the battery. Not the greatest quality sound, though, cause it's a tiny waterproof speaker, but Sonim claims it'll put out 110dB, and my ringing ears believe them. Sound quality vastly improves with headphones, though. Also, the camera is a cheap afterthought and seriously sucks. And it's only a T9 keypad, and it only runs java apps. But at least it does that, right? It's not quite as capable from a technological standpoint as an iPhone, but it's a hell of a lot more durable. Keyav8r
Went from Blackberry (best for strictly business usage due to contact management, etc.) to iPhone 4 in an Otterbox (hand-me-down from my wife when she upgraded) and recently got a new iPhone 5S with a new series Pelican case (case currently only available from AT&T). Really enjoy the phone features (more standard apps, compass, longer battery life, fingerprint unlock, etc,) and I use Siri for hands-free calling and voice texting. Camera is much better on the 5S and I use it a lot to send photos of equipment to customers. Will be loading more music on it soon and using it at the beach in place of my old iPod. I have friends who are using Android phones and like them but I just didn't want to learn a whole new way of using a phone. The Otterbox case on the 4 protected it well but was a pain removing to clean the phone. Went with the Pelican on the 5S because it's not as bulky and Pelican has a great rep for protection
zackcj7
I have had several iphones over the years and have never really been totally happy with them. They seem to be great for music and apps, but suck as a phone. About 6 months ago my work iphone came up for renewal and I decided to try my first Android phone. I read several reviews and decided I really liked the Moto X. It had a really three really cool features that sold me. The first is built in noise cancelling. The second is the feature that detects when you are driving and can reply to texts that you are driving and can also read texts aloud and respond. The third is an app that ties to the calendar and can automatically silence the ringer and send replies when you are in a meeting. So far all the features have worked as advertised and i'm really happy. Not to mention it's not as fragile as an Apple device. I don't have a case on it and have dropped it several times without any problems. The music player is great, the built in speakers are much loader and clearer than my wife's iphone 5s. jpdriver1
I picked up a samsung rugby pro from AT&T -- seams to be commercial grade -- I have found it to the toughest phone I've ever seen --- also put it in an otter case --- water tight to 30 feet for 10 min about the same size as the samsung s4
Minuit
When I broke my phone a while back my two choices were the S4 (which is what I got) or the Rugby. How do you like it as far as the interface goes?
jpdriver1
havent had any probs with it in about 18 months of hard use --- I worked in a crematory and have banged it around and dropped it a whole bunch --- the wife has an S4. she likes it, I don't -- it does strange things

danbyrambler
Might want to ck the iPhone clones - - I prefer android but that's just me - - The Mrs has a Galaxy S5 clone & loves it (Unlocked goophone S5 android - Runs on Straight Talks AT&T service ) - I've had a ZTE N9810 - for a little over a year - Unlocked & rooted - Runs on Sprint's network - Kinda took a flyer on it - Couldn't resist the cheap price back when it was relatively new - Glad I got it - - Anyway, both phones & similar clones are all over eBay for cheap - Starting around $70 if you don't mind the shipping wait for Hong Kong to you - Dropped shipped from NY, LA & such runs around $125-150 best deal for those with a decent camera (8-13 MP) - - - - - - - Anybody can nit pick the features of any of these knock offs compared to the originals, but so what - - Just sayin' might want to look into. Automan2164
cnet is good for video reviews of anything you may be thinking of. Only have ever had android here. I love the open market place, the apps, the everything. Seems iproducts are laid out on a rigid platter and you pay for everything... Don't think I could ever do the iphone. Currently have the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. http://www.cnet.com/products/samsung-galaxy-note-2/ Rob
johnj92131
Anita has a Galaxy S3. Takes great pictures. So I got an S4 last September. Thinking about going to an Iphone 6 when they come out. Will switch from AT&T to TMobile if TMobile has the Iphone 6. Anita LOVES her Ipad
shelbyluvv
I have an S3 as well and think it is a great phone. I up graded from a DroidX and I really miss that phone. The HDMI out port was awesome. You could stream movies right to a laptop or TV with ease.
Lee21490
well its time to upgrade Ive got At&t and i had an iphone 4 but it bit the dust what would yall recomend? i want something durable and a good music player Galaxy s5. They just came out with the new "Active" version too, Which is dust/sand/water/etc proof. The regular s5 is water proof up to 3 meters @ 30minutes. I just have a cheap rubber/plastic case on mine & have dropped it all over town & never caused any damage. Speed wise it blows the iphone away, It has a better camera, 4k resolution videos & photo/video software that rivals very expensive digital cameras. You can choose pretty much any media player you want on andriod. I havent personally messed with it as i have a standalone flac player / portable headphone amp for on the go.
