35 Mpg And 4Wd...

No plans yet. I know nothing about Samurai's at this point. I see they are highly customizable, but I got it because it is 200 mile round trip for me to play golf where I am a member.

35 mpg and 4wd. Doesn't get much better than that. Has A/C, but needs a charge. Driver seat is not too hot. The rest is pretty nice. It shows 103k on the odo. PO said 50 k was towed behind his motorhome.

He's giving me the tow bar also. Little bit of oil leaking from the passenger side closed knuckle. Could just be the wrong grease in there, since he had the leak fixed six months ago, and it started again.

Needs new tires and a battery, but I stole it really.

I don't know about 35mpg as they are only rated at 23/27 but they are neat rigs.

Owner states he was getting 31mpg, then he switched to a new station that just opened up, and it has no ethanol in the fuel, and his mileage jumped up to 34 or 35 ish.

You know how those claims go when someone is trying to sell their vehicle...

I've been after him for two years to sell it to me, and finally got the call.

Watch out for a wrecked VW TDI, then put the TDI engine in the Samurai.  You will have an engine that will go for ever and get you 45 to 50 mpg.  I get 45 mpg in my 96 Passat wagon regurlarly

My best friend here has two Samurais. He is in the process of that very swap for his offroad one.

I wheel with a couple that each have their own Sammi. She has been running a VW diesel in hers for over a year now. One month she wheeled it with the original gas engine, one month later they had completed the diesel swap. Has a 3 gallon lawn mower fuel tank, and goes all weekend on that.

I built a Samurai several years ago. It was a pretty fun little 4x4. I did a spring over lift on it with 31s, transfer case reduction gearset, winch-bumper, and roll cage.

The coolest thing about them is the transfer case. It reduces even in 2 hi. So you can buy a lower gearset for the transfer case and leave the axle ring and pinions stock.

The little 4 cylinder is really gutless though. It makes a Jeep 2.5l feel like a hot rod.

Definately going to be an adventure driving it down her where the speed limits are 85 mph.

The last one I built had a spring over and 38s. With 5.13s and a 6.1:1 in the tcase it can crawl over about anything but with the guttless 1.3l all it can do is crawl.

No offense to anyone's credibility, but there's no effing way anyone ever pulled even 30mpg out of that tail pipe unless it had a diesel in it, which I'm guessing it doesn't. The original 1.3 even injected only pulled maybe 28 with no mods.

I got a Samurai for 500 bucks with a blown engine in it and bought a sidekick 16v for it for 150 bucks. Just haven't had the time to do the swap as of yet. I'd be super interested in modifying a Kubota or Yanmar 4 cylinder with a turbo and putting it in.

The old man I bought it from swore up and down he was getting 35mpg, but admitted he only drove it 45 mph.

After driving it a bit I see why he never went over 45. The front left tire was 7 oz. out of balance, and was causing it to shake pretty badly. I installed two new tires up front and cured that.

Driving around and not trying to save gas at all, I estimated my first tank at around 22mpg. That was all in town, and a lot of idling due to me working on the car trying to get things right.

My feelings are that Samine would get a true 27mpg at best. If it had the original 205 tires, 28 or 29.

I'll never know, because I sold Samine 3 days after I bought her. A friend offered me $1,000 more than I had in her. Happy trails Samine!

I immediately went to another friends house who has a 1990 soft top model with A/C and F.I. and finally talked him into selling me the Bionic Woman!

She was in the process of a new timing belt, idler, and cover, but otherwise is a decent rust free body.

My reason for the virtual trade was for the soft top and F.I. mostly. Looking around at the parts suppliers, there is way more aftermarket support for a soft top model.

I drove Samine II home last night, and I did notice a bit more power. I now need to purchase a new battery and four tires again...

The saga continues.

Right on, that's good business. At first I was like "what?! NO!", and then I read you bought another better one. Check out izook.com. It's the CC of Samurai.

I'm on both izook and zukicrawlers.

That's why i'm not on here as much. :dunno:

That the Suzuki that father the Sammi is a rip-off of the jeep is no surprise. Japan is famous for ripping off another countrys products.  People forget that the Japs of 3 decades ago are the Chinese of today. The I6 that Toy used for decades was taken from Chevy during WWii when GM had to abandon their factory there.

Sammi's rust worse than Jeeps around here. Cool to see a decent looking version.
