My mj doesn't have a hood pad, and my XJ wagoneer has a LT1 Chebby.

But it has a hood pad.

I think that is clearance for the a/c compressor/heater hoses?

My xj pad does however have TWO rectangular holes, close together, in the area for the underhood corded trouble light. Though the light is not there on this one ...

The light mounts further down on the hood.

That must be for the upper heater hose, most factory pads I've seen had a major worn spot right there.

Pre cowl hood, I had the factory hood pad, and it was the same. Why?  :dunno:

OP, how come your hood prop rod is on the left side?

IIRC, 84-86 had the hood prop on the left side and folded across the front.

1987 too. I thought to drill the holes for the right side prop when the fender was off so now I am stuck using the old one.

It just looks like it is for hose clearance.

I have the longer fold-across-the-front kind on my 87, with an Aug 86 build date... until I get the hydraulic lift hood supports installed.

hydra lifts are pretty awesome. :D

What cylinders are used for a hydraulic hood conversion? I've thought about this using the cylinders from a XJ tail hatch. Since the hood is lighter than the tail gate, could using just one work? Curious minds, and folks to lazy to find out for themselves want to know.

unfortunately I don't know for sure what mine came from.  I grabbed a bunch from the parts store and went with the one that worked best.  I think it's a lift for a minivan rear gate.  there are other writeups on CC that have better detail on the project.

Crist Clapper -in your photo the pad is a little out of position. Looking at Hornbrod's photo, you can see that the underhood bracing has an indent in the area of the pad cutout. I'll have to agree it's probably cutout for clearance on hoses or ?

BTW - the rod is on the right on my 88.

I'm pretty sure that indent is for clearance for the upper radiator hose as that's the only thing in that area.
