Anyone Build Model Kits?

Inquiring minds want to know. I know I can't be the only one out there. B)

 

The only ones I own as of now; I found a local automotive parts place that has a ton of models for sale. Lucked out and found the Trans-Am on the very top shelf of the place. Had a few inches of dust on it, but everything inside was still mint. Currently have most of the Barracuda put together, but not painted; the Trans-Am is currently getting the shell painted before I start putting the internals together.

 

 

 

Just picked up the Z-28 today. Might go back to that auto parts place and pick up their AMC Gremlin "Grabber"; found it lurking around on a shelf when I went to pick up some model cement.

 

Also, anyone have this model? There's a few versions of it (Honcho, Pink Poison, and "The Dude") and was thinking about getting a hold of one. Just wanted to know how big it actually is.

I've done a couple cars but my interest is more toward airplanes and railroad stuff. Has any body ever found or seen a kit for a Comanche? Think it may be necessary to get a XJ and modify it.

Got any pics of some of the airplanes? Got a buddy who enjoys making those; thought about making some myself, actually. Also, you'd be hard pressed to find an XJ model; I don't think those have ever been made, IIRC.

I haven't built one in ten years. Had an extensive collection of Tamiya and Testors paints, airbrushes, and about 70 kits [Revell Germany, AMT, Monogram, even a few Jo-Han (Chrysler Turbine!) kits and others] in various stages of being built, dissasembly, or ruin. Most were unceremoniously damaged beyond feasible repair during my move from TX to OR in the back of a 30+ foot Uhaul truck. I put the whole lot on the local CL about 4 years ago and pocketed just over $200 for it from a guy that does kitbashing.

 

I have two remaining completed kits left: a Revell Germany S-100 Schnellboot [model railroad 1/87 oil barrels make great 1/72 depth charges] in ghost/haze gray, and a Revell JU-87G tank buster in winter camo.

 

 

 

Ninja edit: One of the kits that went with the lot was the above Hemi Cuda, but done in a gunmetal with the black side decals. Looked good and even wired the distributor with fine wire. Did a Chrysler 300C kit in champagne and Mazda MX5 in bright red and wired the engines on them too.

 

I don't think I have the patience, eyesight, or steady hand to get back into doing them any more.

I've done a few before. I've actually got quite a few that I haven't ever opened but I've always wondered if a Comanche/J truck kit could possibly exist. Now you've done it, I'm gonna have to clean out a spot now. :P

There are a handful of J-truck kits and there was a XJ kit from a Japanese manufacturer(Tamiya maybe). I'm not sure there ever was a Comanche specific kit.

as a kid i did a lot of them, but now i have too many other hobbies and projects going.

Same here,i did lots of them when I was younger. I tried getting back into it a few years ago but just don't have the time to dedicate to them.

Not since high school, but I've been dragging a couple of boxes full of them around with me for the last twenty years in the hopes I'd build em again when I had a kid. I think I've got some more in the attic, or they've disappeared over the time. Here's the contents of one box. They're all built, I just didn't open everything up. Lots of spares too.

been a few years but I used to build them all the time. still have a box of some of the nicer ones (gently wrapped up) and a big bin of unopened ones. :D maybe someday I'll get some spare time...

I did them as a kid too. I loved taking parts from various kits and mixing and matching. I would take monster truck kits and put bodies on from other car kits, or build parts from balsa wood, and take apart electrical boards and use interesting parts to add detail... and then I got a drivers liscence and went to the vocational center and started messing with real cars.... that spelled the end to the models. I kept a few of the nicer ones around for a long time, but I think at this point, they are all gone.

Never did the cars much, still manage to launch estess rockets couple times a year.

Much more exciting than a car that just sits there. Matter of fact I've gone to the local

middle school and launched rockets, great tool to get students interested

in math and science.

The launch is an example of newtons first law...

Then some simple math (from the Estess web site) can be used to find altitude.

They're too dang expensive if you ask me, the ones at hobby lobby are like, $20 a piece these days. I'd buy a Comanche or XJ model if it was $50 or less, however.

When I was a kid, they were $5 or so. It was like pulling teeth back then to get my parents to give me $5 for one, but I managed to on a regualr basis.
