SW86 Posted November 30, 2012 Share Posted November 30, 2012 well, a couple people i know have told me the where abouts of several comanches. only thing is, is they are not THAT close. i mean i could pick them both up in the same day (a $#!& ton of driving) but i don't know if I'm willing to drive that far. so my question stands, how far is too far to go for a MJ? Or could you wait and one pop up locally? Do they have anything else going for them besides clean and HO? D44's, options, packages... It all factors in, for myself at least. But can still be done by the right negotiator, Like, "$XXXX.xx dollars is my max, I won't ever drive all the way back here, even for just $1 more." The fact that you are taking the used vehicle they are selling FAR AWAY should be a selling point for them too, you won't be back 50 times to complain about every tiny unseen issue. L82- 4sp, front/rear spoilers, dark blue, 24K original miles. It depends on what you are looking for. ride172 Posted December 1, 2012 Share Posted December 1, 2012 I flew from Denver to SanFrancisco to buy mine. The guy lived about 20 minutes from the airport. We settled on a price the day before. I got a super cheap ticket but told him it cost a mint. I said if the truck picked me up at the airport I'd take it. The guy was honest and I didn't even need the two checked suitcases full of exactly 50 lbs of tools each. It was a great drive home that gave me plenty of time to bond with the new truck. I've been wanting to buy another toy from far away just for the journey....... My vote is buy one as far away as you can. If you want it and the deal is right go for it. terrawombat Posted December 1, 2012 Share Posted December 1, 2012 I drove my rusted '91YJ (which I really hadn't put through its paces) 7.5 hours from New Jersey to Ohio to do a straight trade for a rust-free '92MJ. Drove it 7.5 hours back after getting a temp tag and made it home for dinner. Completely worth it. Only took three Monster energy drinks to complete the trip....didn't even finish the four-pack I bought! Now, if you're talking about the plethora of '92's that have popped up for sale around the MD/PA/NJ area, then there is only one that is worth all the driving: http://reading.craigslist.org/cto/3405496086.html Get it before I change my mind.... So I flew from Philly to St Louis by way of Atlanta, the owner even picked me up at the airport, was a sweet road trip. Funny thing is she thought that would end the comanche obsession, HAHA. Myself, if I wasn't sure, I would road trip on the bike (weather permitting) or take a fuel efficient car to go look at it. Always look for fun reasons to road trip. Now if you travel a long ways to get an MJ and drive it back, remember "it aint an adventure unless something happens" best of luck and goferit. gogmorgo Posted December 3, 2012 Share Posted December 3, 2012 I only drove into the nearest city (pop ~60k), about 75 miles, took it for a drive, handed over a stack of cash, put my own plates on it, and drove it home. Not much of a trip, tbh. This summer, time and funds willing, I'm thinking of making a 600-1000 mile (one way) trip out west to pick up a much more fuel efficient 4x4 to use as a dd/winter beater.
